Real Muay thai fighters have awesome standing grappling . They will control ,throw, and sweep your legs . The only thing a skilled Thai fighter needs to learn is ground fighting, and then all the lower weight classes of mma would be ruled by thai dudes
Edit: I consider wrestling/judo/jujutsu/ grappling in general ground fighting because it always ends on the ground .

@Jan L Thai clinch in Thailand often looks pretty similar to Greco wrestling (underhooks, overhooks, body locks, etc.), which is a major component of freestyle. They might be missing the element of leg grabs, but there is a huge amount of overlap between Thai grappling and western wrestling except with the added element of elbow and knee strikes. People call the double collar tie "Thai clinch," but you very rarely see it used in Thailand unless there is a big skill/size disparity.

If you speak about a pure grappler with no striking abilities against a pure striker with no grappling abilities I would always bet for the grappler. The striker needs to land a good strike to end the fight, which in my experience it is more difficult than getting taken down by a grappler. A grappler may recieve 1 or 2 strikes but still stay up but he will just need one chance to take down someone that has no take down defense, and once the striker is in the floor the fight is over.

The inverse is also true, Joe.
If you’re close enough to grab, you’re close enough to get punched.
As much as I enjoy BJJ (it’s a good art, has much to teach in the modern era, just not super practical by itself for self defense in the concrete world), I see way too many practitioners go to pulling guard, (practically begging to have your brain smashed out or your back broken via slam.Gravity is a hell of a weapon.) “shooting” in for a takedown with their head at hip height (screaming for either a teep to the face or knee to the side of the head or chin, elbow to the back of the neck/head), or laying down and waiting for the opponent to go to a sprawl/roll (only works if your opponent plays your game or have great takedown game-most times those takedowns are lacking in pure BJJ, and I’ve rarely met someone so obliging as to cuddle with their opponent for keeps.)
Most Muay Thai practitioners defend by breaking the part of the opponent that is attacking or is closest/most vital.
That being said, virtually every martial arts out there can be enhanced with BJJ training. Knowing what to do from the ground and how to clear the roll is vital.
“He fell” was a euphemism for dying for a very good reason, after all.

you can put someone to sleep with boxing just fine, it’s called a knock-out, you should know that as a boxer lol, and how exactly are you gonna choke out more than 1 attacker at the same time (and again, don’t give me that “no martial art will protect you against multiple attackers” mumbojumbo that bjj guys in particular like Jocko Willink and Joe Rogan and Rener Gracie love to preach so much because of their own bjj biased agenda … because the net is filled with videos of casual boxers doing just fine whereas I have yet to see even a single bjj video pulling off a similar feat … it doesn’t exist bro, bjj wasn’t designed for that, boxing was, see hyperlinks of the videos below as undeniable evidence, bjj can’t do this, period), bjj is best case scenario only, but a smart person trains for worst case scenarios so why train bjj then … and yes grappling is important but guess what that’s what judo is for …far more well rounded, far cheaper and none of the toxic cult bs you see in bjj … you can also choke out some guy same way but unlike in bjj you can also throw them to the ground to begin with … bjj is therefore obsolete, why buy a 100k watch if a 40 dollar watch tells you the same time lol, bjj is a scam bro, in judo you learn triple as much, for literally 1/10th the price and you will rarely if ever find the type of douche training partner or instructor that’s your typical or average bjj bloke …
conclusion: boxing and judo are infinitely better and complement eachother extremely well … bjj is 100% unnecessary …
The stone cold reality that bjj clowns refuse to accept is that boxing CAN protect you against multiple attackers, jiu jitsu CANNOT :) and if you end up on the ground with multiple attackers against you, bjj or no bjj, you be f***ed either way :) might as well try to simply stay on your own 2 feet until you can create a gap and escape
And people like Jocko Willink with a bias towards grappling and especially bjj: “it’s hard to knock someone out, it rarely happens, even boxers don’t knock eachother out consistently and they’re trained to do that” …
they’re also trained to take punishment as well as dish it out … but I guess Jocko conveniently forgot about that huh lol the guy simply spins reality and cherrypicks everything in favor of bjj whenever he sees fit …
“If you wanna throw hands, I can just run away …”
Says who? If they corner you in an alleyway or on the subway or on a staircase from both sides or on a rooftop for all I care, unless you can fly like a bird like Nelly fn Furtado, you ain’t going no place … And besides, even if you can run away, if one of them is a better runner or sprinter or triathlete or whatever than you, he’ll simply catch up and now you’re back to square one and not only thta, now you’ve wasted energy failing to run away …
“As soon as you grab me, now I can’t run away anymore, now I have to grapple” …
What kind of idiot would wilfully allow a potential threat to get close enough to grab him in the first place, that’s on YOU … it means your striking and situational awareness failed you and you should’ve worked on your striking and footwork and agility …in other words: simply more cope in favor of bjj …
In any case, people like Jocko can sell bjj biased garbage all they want, the reality still stands they have no answer to ANY of the following videos, because they know but will never get themselves to admit that bjj, for all its’ unfounded hype, can’t do this … boxing can, and boxing has

In a real fight people forget about biting, nut punch/grab/kick, eye gauging, finger breaking, throat punch, etc. Also deception: faking a heart attack or seizure and then striking when the guy is distracted. With a grappler/wrestler you can tap (in the real world), they will instinctively loosen for a second out of habit lol. This world is not full of fair fighters. And why would you be if you are not the perpetrator? Fight dirty in order to go home to your spouse and children. If someone is going to stab me or try to beat me up, I'm gonna NOT fight fair. You have no guarantee that they will either. You're winning if you never get in a fight. Run away or try to defuse the situation. But again, they're talking about ring fighting, so not gonna bash what they're saying.

I do both but I am better and more experienced in Muy Thai. I think it works better if u know more muy Thai than bjj in a street fight. You are more equipped to fight one or more people. If you know only bjj u are only good enough to fight one guy any more and it might be bad for you

Both. Muay Thai when you on the feet, switch to JJ if you end up on the ground, they go hand in hand

On average the bjj fighter would win if he has a decent level of takedown technique and in most cases every bjj fighter does a little bit of stand up but almost none muay thai fighter does know something about bjj

There would be 10x more bjj and wrestling if you didn't force stand ups. Thats not the say you won't see striking, just a different kind. Look at the muti hour long fights of sakaraba vs gracie

Someone please tell Jocko that in self defence situatiation a non-bjj guy is "alowed" to strike. They won't just grapple with no strikes.

In terms of a street fight in a random spot in the world I'd rather know muy thai only because I do not want to go the ground and risk having 5 guys come and hit me with pipes and shit like that when i cant see it or can't run away. You should always stay on your feet in an environment you're not acquainted with.

Grappling 1vs1 fair, muay thai in more realistic street scenarios, where it is important having an overview

World of difference between mma trained striking which is watered down muay thai vs. Actual muay thai. Making the claims about turtling and getting close is alot of pipe dreaming. You are not tanking a roundhouse.

Even at bjj tournaments, when it gets heated, the first thing people do is throw punches. Why is that? If bjj is the best, why do people immediately go to hands? I’m saying this as someone who loves bjj and has been training for a long time, but let’s be honest, if I’m out and I get into a bit of trouble I’m not grappling. I’m hitting first and getting the fuck out of there.

I think people overestimate muay thai and underestimate jiujitsu....not saying muay thai doesn't work, of course it works I ve done sparrin with some Muay Thai guys and that leg kick is mean, but, when they are grabbed and thrown tonthe ground ( im a judoka and did some boxing ) then it's over....same goes for bjj guys, they have great newaza skills, but lack of takedowns and throws which judo does have..... I believe if you watto be proficient martial artist, you gotta train each martial art to experience what works for you and take the best of each one....those are my two cents....

For a BJJ/JJ/grappler to not get knockouted before throwing the muay thai down, they must learn basic striking in order to defend themselves. This is already a proof why striking > grappling. Imagine a pure striker vs a pure grappler, the grappler would get KO instantly. When I see Muay thai vs BJJ, its always Muay thai vs MMA (as the BJJ also learns to strike).

Muay Thai training can be torturous so not many can handle it long term and of course these two would shill for BJJ. Of course BJJ is awesome but it has deffo caught a dose of the McDojo’s.
