This is one of the greatest songs of all-time, in my opinion. A true masterpiece. I remember REM's Michael Stipe saying its the one song he wishes he had written himself.
The whole of Achtung Baby is U2's masterpiece album. Every track on it is wonderful and the album was a massive game changer for U2 in so many ways. I'd love to hear you react to more songs from it, especially:
THE FLY (amazing guitar from The Edge)
ZOO STATION (brilliant European industrial rock sounds)
WHO'S GONNA RIDE YOUR WILD HORSES.
UNTIL THE END OF THE WORLD.
    ULTRAVIOLET.
LOVE IS BLINDNESS - heck, just every damn track!
I adore U2. I love their 80's work too, which was very different but 90's U2 is when they really took chances, were experimental, adventurous, creative.Other songs I adore are:
STAY (FARAWAY, SO CLOSE) from their Zooropa album.
HOLD ME, THRILL ME KISS ME, KILL ME (a great rock track theme song from the Batman movie in 1995.)
YOUR BLUE ROOM (from U2's Passengers side-project with Brian Eno.)
    DISCOTHEQUE and
MOFO, (from their POP album in 1997, shows a more dance/techno sound from the band)
Like I said, in the 90's, whether it all worked or not, they weren't afraid to branch out and experiment with different sounds and styles. Some fans adored the new European industrial and electronic sounds, others preferred what they were doing in the 80's, either their early 80s Irish rock and New Wave sound or their later American rock and blues sound) .Some, like me, love it all, but especially 90's U2. :)
From the 80's I'd definitely recommend:
    THE UNFORGETTABLE FIRE (song)
    BAD
The whole of the Joshua Tree album (which is U2 in their 'Americana' period) - in particular the first 4 tracks on the album are magic!
    Plus, DESIRE and
ALL I WANT IS YOU, from their Rattle & Hum album.
Damn, so many more songs I could recommend but I think I've mentioned enough, lol! Their more recent output has been more conventional and less creative, I guess, more MOR and playing safe (still many good songs though) which makes a lot of people foolishly slag them off and call them boring, completely forgetting about or ignoring the first 2 decades of incredible music U2 gave us, which is such a shame!! Glag you're listening to this iconic band, Dereck. Please delve more into their music, you won't be disappointed! :)

Seeing your love for U2 continue to blossom, as a younger fan myself, is so heartwarming! Was nowhere close to coming into this world when this song came out, but I don't believe, that means it can't touch me just as close as it did anyone who heard it on the radio for the first time in '91! For the next steps on your wonderful journey, "Every Breaking Wave" is a modern U2 MUST (some folks in the comments recommended a stellar live performance already!), "Beautiful Day" for something more positive, uplifting and high-energy, and "Pride (In The Name Of Love)" for another politically-charged U2 classic!!! 💓 Whatever path you take next, I cannot wait to see this journey continue :D

Hi Dereck! Thanks for your react on U2. This song "One" was released on March 6, 1992 as a third single taken from their seventh album "Achtung Baby" and became a CLASSIC in their repertoire.
The song can have several interpretations : the first, the separation between a man and a woman, the second, a tense conversation between a father and his HIV-positive gay child, the conversation between BONO and his father or the reunification of the two Germans.
It exists several versions of the music video. The one you governed is the main/principal version. I remember this videoclip at the time and I also saw the Buffalo Version the one where there is the bison with sunflowers etc ... and One written in many languages.
If you want to continue with this album (sold 18 million copies), I recommend you The Fly as a first single or Mysterious Ways (1991) one of my fav.
Thanks for your great work our American mate.👍🇫🇷

I’ve read many times that the original meaning of the song was a conversation between a father and son. The son was telling his father he was gay and his father was totally against it . This is how it originally became a benefit record for the aids charity.

Actually, it’s about a band breaking up, as U2 was on the verge of doing when the Edge proposed a chord progression for the bridge in “Mysterious Ways” and inadvertently gave birth to this song. They thought the magic they once had disappeared. It didn’t. The song is brutally honest…”We hurt each other and we’ll do it again.”
Rolling Stone magazine falsely claimed it was about AIDS just ahead of U2 signing off on it being used for charity.

One is a song Bono said in an interview he wrote about a close friend of his and the turmoil he went through with his father after telling him that he was Gay at a time when this was frowned upon in Ireland thankfully not now. a number of Rock and pop stars have named this song as among the greatest they have ever heard including Robbie Williams { Take That} Noel Gallagher { Oasis} and Axl Rose { Guns n Roses} who said I think their song 'One' is one of the greatest songs ever written. Now I can see and understand why people were into U2 years ago. If you are looking a U2 song on a par with One then i know you are absolutely going to adore this one from them they played to a small audience whilst sitting on a porch its called Every Breaking Wave....Please do a reaction to this i know you will love it. th-cam.com/video/BdVIJNnzNQc/w-d-xo.html

You're right. They never were really able to top this whole record. For me, Achtung Baby was the last and the best of the classic U2 period.

Oh lord I lost my brother last year n this was his last song... not looking for sympathy but its a wonderful song ( I'm irish n bono annoys me) that said they have produced amazing songs but this song is just incredible... my mams last song was Elvis SUSPICUOUS MINDS.... great channel ... I have watched so many artists here so of course I subbed. I have watched DIMASH n other artists...Bono has an amazing voice.. its funny I have bumped into him once or twice n he is very chilled.. lots of love from Ireland xxx

If you do another U2 reaction, please check out “Every Braking Wave”. Look for their performance at the MTV- music award. This performance will take your breath away, Bono’s vocals at his finest and it’s such a beautiful song. I hope you will get to it sometime, you will not be disappointed!

This is the link to the original video (by Anton Corbijn) that was filmed in Berlin where they wrote the song. th-cam.com/video/GpsAy0kSiE8/w-d-xo.html But MTV refused to play it so they had to make a special cut mixed the original one with some bulls tapes. That is also possible to find on TH-cam. And after that they made the video you have played.

No, this is not the Corbin video. In the Corbin Video they are all dressed as women, this is why mtv refused to put it on heavy rotation. 2nd video is the bulls, third is this one reviewd here which went on heavy rotation.
