Seeing your love for U2 continue to blossom, as a younger fan myself, is so heartwarming! Was nowhere close to coming into this world when this song came out, but I don't believe, that means it can't touch me just as close as it did anyone who heard it on the radio for the first time in '91! For the next steps on your wonderful journey, "Every Breaking Wave" is a modern U2 MUST (some folks in the comments recommended a stellar live performance already!), "Beautiful Day" for something more positive, uplifting and high-energy, and "Pride (In The Name Of Love)" for another politically-charged U2 classic!!! 💓 Whatever path you take next, I cannot wait to see this journey continue :D
Unique voice, you're absolutely right. I often say Bono would easily sing opera pieces. Now for "With or Without You" please... And you'll still have only touched the tip of the iceberg :)
20 years later Mary J. Blige recorded a version of this song WITH the entire band U2 backing her up. Check out her version, which she does as a duet with Bono. It's a nice version.
So great to see this 😁 u2 has always been my favourite band ever and I love it when people can hear their songs for the first time and connect to them like I have
Fantastic reaction - Through you I can re-experience the excitement and amazement of hearing this beautiful song again for the first time - it's magical - thank-you...
Still, nothing beats the first years and the 3 instrument band. It was RAW and soul hitting. But things like Unforgettable fire don't get you much radio time, so... I get it...
Magnificent song. It was the favorite song of Samuel Paty, the French professor who was brutally murdered in the street in October 2020. This song was played during his public funeral at the "Sorbonne" faculty in Paris. I have a fond thought for him every time I listen to this song.
This song saved the band.... they were recording Achtung Baby in Germany and had hit many walls.... then this song became a thing and the rest of the album flowed rom them.. but without this song many believe it would have been the end for U2.
I really like your reactions because you actually talk in detail about the music.. most reactions are just about the video, lyrics, aesthetic, mood, etc.

Love your reactions. Always heartfelt and genuine. One is a special song. A song that just transcends other music and genres. Achtung Baby is a gorgeous and dark masterpiece. The very best of several U2 masterpiece albums. For something different, and may just reduce you to tears, consider reacting to the live version of Love is Blindness from ZooTV Sydney. I can never get through the guitar solo without tears welling up. So much anger, and sadness channeled through his instrument.
I’ve read many times that the original meaning of the song was a conversation between a father and son. The son was telling his father he was gay and his father was totally against it . This is how it originally became a benefit record for the aids charity. Bono’s finest work 👍 It’s taken so many different meanings now though as great songs do Brilliant review 👌
Actually, it’s about a band breaking up, as U2 was on the verge of doing when the Edge proposed a chord progression for the bridge in “Mysterious Ways” and inadvertently gave birth to this song. They thought the magic they once had disappeared. It didn’t. The song is brutally honest…”We hurt each other and we’ll do it again.” Rolling Stone magazine falsely claimed it was about AIDS just ahead of U2 signing off on it being used for charity.

This is the link to the original video (by Anton Corbijn) that was filmed in Berlin where they wrote the song. th-cam.com/video/GpsAy0kSiE8/w-d-xo.html But MTV refused to play it so they had to make a special cut mixed the original one with some bulls tapes. That is also possible to find on TH-cam. And after that they made the video you have played.
