My brother absolutely loved U2, he sadly passed away in July... we were very close and sometimes being so close leads to intense emotions.. we fought but always made up , but I was sick n he reached out n I rejected it.. I'll never forgive myself as months later he had a stroke... I still remember him in the hospital grabbing my arm begging for help... my heart shattered... ok I know I'm blabbing but please take this as a moment to love your family n those dearest... not a lecture but try... I never knew I'd lose my buddy my best friend my brother so quickly... thus was his favourite song n we played it at his funeral... lots of love to you all n please , enjoy n value what you have xxx

Great reaction to one of my favourite U2 songs. This song actually saved the band as they had hit several dead ends whilst recording Achtung Baby. The album was a big change in style and direction and was described by the band as "four men chopping down The Joshua Tree", which was the name of their biggest album. Apparently The Edge was just in the studio playing the chords and Bono started singing words to fit in with the tune. They managed to get something going then both Adam and Larry came in and started to suss out their parts and played along.
That gave them something to build on and a renewed hope that they make an album. Bono's vocals and lyrics on this sing were spot on. The one line that sticks out for me is "We get to carry each other" as it sounds more of a privilege than a chore.

  • @johnchipman631

Being a 40 year fan of U2, it is so much fun to see such a happy, genuine, passionate young guy show some love for the greatest rock band AND rock crooner of all time~
There is a live version of One where Bono includes some love for his wife Ali as the band was wrapping up (Ith ink the 360 tour or earlier) and instead of Hallelujah, he screams "Ali-lujah, I'm coming home Ali, Ali-lujah, I am coming home!"
Echoing others, All I Want Is You, Streets, but also obscure tunes like Drowning Man, Tomorrow or even Miss Sarajevo (you might enjoy Pavarotti).

Ok... so now.. you need to go look up the "one" cover by Chris Cornell.(Dark grey tshirt video) Chris sings the lyrics to Metallica's One, by the melody of U2's One. Trust me on this... chills chills chills, powerful powerful powerful. Makes me tear up everytime i hear it.
Also, ive been a U2 fan since Joshua Tree was released. My older sister got me listening to them when i was a teenager. Im 42 now. Alex, if you are looking for a good wedding song, (Congrats btw) U2's "All I Want is You" off the Rattle and Hum album is a primo choice.

Do " One Tree Hill " it was written for one of his roadies that died in a motorcycle accident. He was a New Zealander and One Tree Hill is a famous volcanic peak in Auckland, NZ. It was named that because there was ( obviously ) one tree on it, but it got attacked and taken down, so now theres a monument up there. Very, very good song.

they played the very first Live Aid concert back in the day, and you really need to react to "U2 - Bad (live at Live Aid)." it's one of their best performances ever.

This is off of one of the two best U2 Albums ever. The Joshua Tree was a cover to cover album so good they went and did a 40th year anniversary tour where the concert consisted of them playing the album straight through every night. This is off of Achtung Baby... Where the band reinvented themselves from straight rock to a dance club groove... Rock...
You can't go wrong listening to anything off of either of those albums. Then you have newer (20 year olds) songs like Beautiful Day that just fn floor you.

I don't listen to U2 particularly, but they have many iconic tracks. From the tracks being sugggested you might find one that you recognise but didn't know it was them. 'With Or Without You' was one of those moments for me.

One double shot of U2 that i think goes together and also gives perspective of how gigantic their live show is would be All I Need Is You into Where the Streets Have No Name. Live from Slane Castle or Boston...both are readily available as a package on TH-cam.

The story behind this song is the clincher. Coming off the Joshua Tree they couldn't vibe. Sitting in the studio one night, almost ready to split, one of them stands up and just starts that intro. Cant recall if it was Bono or Edge. Immediately jammed out and it became this song. Then we got Achtung Baby. Amazing history to this band.

Hey dude! Man, your reaction to this was veeery genuine. One is a very special song. Very special. Other U2 songs? Here's the thing... U2's sound changes with almost every record. To be short, they went from punk, to post punk, to experimental rock, to rock/college rock, alternative rock, more alternative, techno rock.
A song like One? If God Will Send His Angles is great. With or Without You is obviously up there. But there are so many unique sounds, and unique songs. Like an ungodly amount. Cheers!

Oh yes, this is one of the best U2 songs ever. For more mind-blowing U2 check out a recent tune called The Blackout - a live version would be even better. Another recent new song is The Little Things That Give You Away. For older material, check out New Year’s Day, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Pride, Until The End of The World (from the same album as One), The Fly (ditto), Mysterious Ways (ditto again).
