It doesn't cost them anything to do this. Reddit doesn't pay them a dime to run those communities for them. They can protest without any harm to themselves and massive harm to reddit
@@pocketsand76it’s huge that iPhone is doing this. The CEO attacking the Apollo dev was like attacking them. Apollo literally got a spotlight at Apple’s keynote events while the official Reddit app didn’t because Apple realized Apollo was on par with their standards while the official app wasn’t. I think the Reddit suits took that very personally which is why they’ve gone after Apollo so hard and so specifically. Apollo was even going to be one of the launch apps on Apple’s VR headset apparently but now it won’t be since Apollo won’t work anymore by the time the VR headset launches.
I think reddit culture in general is pretty shit, but if reddit did fully shut off that would be a shame for niche interest boards that are genuinely useful. A lot of old school forums became subreddits; if i have a question about technical theatre, where I work, I'd usually go to the techtheatre subreddit because the old forum for it essentially died.

It's frustrating when people don't know how little they know about something. They learn a little and think they know a lot. The Dunning-Kruger effect in action...

It's interesting how much collective action is happening recently, whether it's gamers or people against lgbt stuff, hopefully this spreads to other stuff as well.
Why were your go-to examples of collective action “gamergate” and “homophobes”? Those are the WORST examples of collective action because they just made everything worse lol
I hope they keep the blackout going…!
Some are, including huge ones like r/iPhone and R/Videos which are shutting down indefinitely.

everyone knows the age old saying of "thank god for a reddit user 7 years ago for having the answer to my hyper specific question"
A world without Reddit brings tears of joy

a lot of big subreddits are doing it indefinitely but for some reason people are only focusing on the original statement of 48 hours
