    Yeah these are similar to the highest loadings Ive been able to find that are safe for a fully supported barrel. People dont get that .40 S&W is def a 800+ foot pound capable cartridge lol.
    I was checking out some guys loadings for .40 and saw people were getting up to 720 fpe / 1550 fps for a 135 grain out of a 4”, and 866 fpe/1700 fps out of a 6” barrel. For 155 grain, they were getting 826 fpe and 1550 fps out of the 6” and 674 fpe and 1400 fps out of the 4”. For 165 grain they were getting 667 fpe and 1350 fps out of the 4”, all the tested with. For 180 gr, they were getting 675 fpe and 1300 fps out of the 6” and 528 fpe and 1150 fps out of the 4”. For 200 grain, 639 fpe and 1200 fps out of the 6”, and 537 fpe and 1100 fps out of the 4”.
    Your loadings are very similar to this. Im going to get into hand loading for .40 cuz I want these super powerful .40 loads

    10mm is a marketing gimmick. This just proves that. Any off the shelf 10mm ammo is printing only maybe 80fps faster than a 40s&w in the same barrel. Why the FBI and law enforcement agencies are following the 9mm I will never know. Hey, whatever. I picked up a KY state police gen 4 G35 with nightsights today for 375$. And it was unissued. So all you 40 haters, let the hate flow. You all have made 40 cheaper than 9mm for all of us.

      A. 40 isnt cheaper than 9mm
      B. real 10mm is far superior (energy wise) to 40sw

      Marketing gimmick lol. .40 wouldn’t exist without 10mm it’s the parent case. Properly loaded 10mm has 20% more kinetic energy than .40. 10mm is about the same price as .40 when comparing similar ammunition.

    I like it! That's more muzzle energy than most 357 magnum revolvers!
    I suspected that 40 could replicate 10mm, without any major hazards, as long as bullets are not seated any deeper in the case, but it's a lot like that quote from Raiders of the Lost Ark:
    "Asps! Very Dangerous! YOU go first!"

    • @SuperD00D
      @SuperD00D 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes 4” can only get 528 fpe or so from 180s whereas it can get 720 from 135 grain. 6” barrel can do around 675 fpe with 180 gr and 866 fpe for 135 grain.

  • @Radvous
    @Radvous 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The problem with 40 S&W and 10mm is that the bullets are seated waay farthur into the casing than they need to be. Where a bullet sits in a 10mm casing, it can sit in a 40 S&W casing and still have enough casing to hold onto the bullet, giving you the same powder capacity as a standard 10mm in a 40 S&W casing. This goes for 10mm as well, the bullet is seated so far into the casing, wasting space, when it could be seated not as deep and give you even more powder capacity than a standard 10mm round will. Both of these cartridges could be essentially "UPGRADED" by re-engineering how far the bullets are seated. Seat the bullet on a 40 S&W to get the same overall length of a 10mm, and you get the same space for powder behind the bullet as a 10mm. I think they engineered it wrong from the get-go. The other issue is that they engineered pistols and magazines around the wrongly engineered 40 S&W and 10mm cartridges.

      Yess my Glock 23 is so much more concealable than my Sig P365 X Macro. And I bought that to be more concealable!!! Lol. Go figure
      Being weaker, harder to conceal, and having more recoil (I find 620 foot pound out of 4” Underwood 135 gr nosler, 675 fpe out of 4.9” and 589 out of 3.4” to kick less than standard 9mm out of the Sig. and forget +p 9mm in the Sig, it breaks your flipping finger!!! ) Idk what’s up with that gun but it doesn’t really serve me any purpose. I love it! And I love that you are doing it to your guns so I don't have to do it to mine. LOL. It is great to see that a factory gun will contain this amount of power without catastrophic failure. I wouldn't kid myself though. There is no free lunch. That much power in what is essentially a converted 9mm pistol will have to accelerate wear.
    Even max standard pressure .40 is hard on pistols compared to the original 9mm version. IMO, that and ammo cost are the major reasons LE has run back to the 9mm.
    As someone who won't run a bajillion rounds through his pistol, the economics don't matter so much to me...within reason. I doubt I'll wear out my 5" M&P. I haven't gone beyond book max loads but they are far more stout than most factory ammo. Alliant Power Pistol works great at this level. I got a little more fps with Longshot but it did not group as well.
    I have settled on 155 gr bullets but will have to consider 135gr as well. 180 seems like too much for most uses and eats up case capacity, although at the velocity you are getting it is hard to criticize other than possible pistol longevity.
    Great experimenting that you are doing. I'm subscribed and will check out more of your work.

    • @N0B0DY_SP3C14L
      @N0B0DY_SP3C14L 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think the wear and tear will depend on the piece. With a Glock? Yeah, you're probably on borrowed time fairly quickly. With an HK, I wouldn't worry about it in the least. However, there is also a significant price difference, and a USP full size is a bit bigger and heavier than a Glock full size of the same calibre (Glock 22?). But you get what you pay for. In this case, a piece that has a higher probability of longevity when using hotter than factory ammo.

    Doubletap and buffalo bore 10mm numbers. Def better than their .40’s. Closest is underwood 135 gr. Rated at 588 fpe but it actually hits 675 out of a 4.9” barrel, AZ AIRGUNNER just tested it 4 days ago and got 675 fpe out of 4.9”.
    Awesome loads. .40 just has no r&d from ammo companies for decades now and loaded to gen 1 glock safe pressures. It’s fully capable of +p and +p+ pressures just like 9mm and this is what you get. Normal .40 from factory is barely better and quite often weaker than most 9mm +p+ which is stupid. Only that underwood and maybe some buffalo bore pulls far ahead. And you’re somewhat right about the doubletap. Look to also hit just over 600 foot pounds from 4.5”.
    But these loads are what you get from true +p and +p+ .40

      I don’t think guns made for .38 special can handle .357 pressure. Thanks for watching

      @@anthonysmith3132 The 9mm +p+ 115gr are 150 fps slower than my factory under powered (42k psi) 9×23 Win 124gr (1,450 fps) out of the box. Max pressure for the case is 55k. My reloads are 50k with a 147gr bullet consistent, mid 1,500's fps. The only mods to my 1911 70 series were a Nowlin 5in 9×23 bbl, 20lb recoil spring & 22lb mainspring. The 9×23 Win brass is a reloaders dream.

    The 40 will never replace the 10 mm the 10 mm came first and could be hand loaded to much greater velocities than the 40 can with 220 grain projectiles!

    • @mandapalque
      @mandapalque ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You are 100% correct. 10mm will always be more powerful. What is your take on: The 10mm cartridge was prone to crack up the metal made handguns in the past. Also, what is your take on the fact that .40 cartridge can be filled up and get 10mm velocities, but in a smaller frame pistol, allowing smaller hand people to be able to operate a hand gun with 10mm stopping power? TIA

    That brass life will most likely be sketchy by a long shot💥💥💥... On the real topic though- I've seen 10mm videos of people pushing 155 grain XTPs to over 1600FPS. 10mm will always be more powerful/ more case capacity... you are just influencing risk taking for reloading.

    Reloaders can do sooo much over SAMMI and manufacturer's can do. It's rediculous what they're charging for an extra 200fps. Stupid!
