Literally a knife killer. For a reference knife would be sharper if you dont sharpen it for 5 years, than after 5 days of using one of this inventions, + you ruin the blade for good, it equivalent of cutting on metal surface like the one in kitchen.

I have a bunch of these type sharpeners but rarely use them, Only if I cant use a strop or a steel on it, Then i might give it a few passes on the stone and go back to the steel/strop. Then these are kinda last resort like if I'm out in the woods with only that. Just because they're light and compact. But otherwise i agree

Plus it’s well understood that carbide knife sharpeners remove way too much metal and don’t produce long lasting edges because they use the burr to cut.
@your_favorite_ranger im no expert but those wedge sharpeners take some of the metal off the blade when sharpening. Over the long term you will not have any blade left. A wet stone, on the other hand, re straightens the bent/dull blade

When you need to sharpen a knife, you use for instance, a whetstone to get rid of the old edge and create a new one. The reason why the sharpener shown in the video is bad is because it takes off way too much metal as compared to a whetstone. The only reason it was able to be sharpened quickly is because it took off way too much metal.

Field sharpener*…. This is not something you want to regularly use on all your knives at home…. at home where you have access to things like a spyderco sharpmaker, a belt sander, actual sharpening stones etc you should use these things….

If im on a job and my blade is duller than i need then this tool works perfectly for a fast sharpening and quicker finish on the job

I like these, but my truth is they'll work well on cheaper, softer metal knives. I bought it to try on my bench made that's 152cm and it actually dulls it. I know stones are the best course of action, but it's way harder than your dad , grandpa, or hunting buddy makes it look to be

Carbide has a place in sharpening blades, just dont use it everytime. It works great to reprofile a blade, but once you've got your blade set maintain it with a whetstone for the love of God!

I use a worksharp guided sharpener at home. I'll never go back to a pull through sharpener again. The edge you get from a proper sharpening set-up is just great.

A belt sander will take off alot more then this carbide sharpener. Just use a leather strop and stones to maintain an edge.
