With Disturbed's covers, they have the ability to pay homage to the original artist, and at the same time totally reimagine the song to fit our current times.
They don't really change them much, they just add a lot of energy.
Disturbed is always respectful to the originals!
One of the things I adore about Disturbed is David and the way he sings, you can still hear the words. I love rock music, always have, the trouble with some of the heavy rock/metal is you cannot understand a word and for me, that is where my enjoyment ends. But with Disturbed, you don't get that. I came here when you started with Home Free (yes my tastes are at best random) but I am enjoying your journey down this rock path as a fellow Brit. Please keep these great reactions coming.
Way late reply but I had to :-) I am such a Homefry but also a complete Disturbed disciple (throw in a boatload of other stuff from NiN to Garth Brooks and I'm pretty eclectic as well)
David makes you pay attention to the words and meaning of the lyrics. He puts his feelings into everything and makes us get into the song.
I agree completely with your take. Its almost bold to take on an iconic sound like Genesis, but they don't butcher it. It is.... respectful of the original while putting their own brand to it.
It is very easy to tell that Disturbed are fans of the original. They completely respected everything Genesis did, this is more of a homage with really awesome animation.
David Draiman’s voice actually is very similar to Phil’s.

A reason to fight is one of my favorite songs ever. Another is Hold on to Memories.

Also loved the original, but DISTURBED has a way of giving us the RAW MESSAGE, no fooling around with satire dolls. Their animations can be quite graphic... take it as a warning. 😉

I’ve been a major Disturbed and David fan for almost 20 years. Even when Disturbed when on hiatus and David started a band called Device. The music and his voice has gotten me out of many dark places in my life. One very powerful song for me, is The Animal if you’re looking to get a little harder in the Disturbed journey. All the best. 🤘🏻
Listen to Phill Collins and Genesis songs with this cover in mind, He wrote metal songs, he just didn't know it.

Ok so I've been posting on every Disturbed video you do. I think the next song should be "Prayer" by them. It's a little harder but has soft elements and shows David's amazing voice. It's not metal really. It's just Disturbed and it's an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G song. Please react to it next! Kinda like "the light", about that level of heavy, lol!

If you want to stick with covers, Shout 2000 (Tears For Fears) is a great one. For original material, "Are You Ready" from the Evolution album.

Every Disturbed album has an awesome cover on it. I believe Shout by Tears for Fears (originally) was one of the first.
Yeah I noticed that as well over the two men are from vastly different parts of the world it's almost as if David is channeling Phil Collins and away either way it's going to be a great reaction I love the Disturbed version of the song and I love that Genesis one
I would suggest the title track from each album as a decent way to get a feel for what each album sounds like because while each album sounds like Disturbed, each one is also completely different in the meaning and general tone from the one that came before.
I love this remake! They did such a good job I think Phil Collins would be proud. 💘
I've been watching these reaction videos to this song, but what I've been really looking for is more insightful take on the meaning behind the lyrics if we apply them to the way corruption has been allowed to run rampant and ultimately put innocent people in the middle of all the confusion and chaos.
Are we talking military industrial complex or geopolitical issues? Are we talking companies such as Boeing and Lockheed making a fortune by quietly whispering into the powers that be ears that war is good for business? Or, are we talking about the entire world being held hostage right now by one man? If you knew the original intent of the song, you would pick my last option. Well, my last two options, which would encompass the first option, too.
@@chrismorgan283 Yes, I know the original very well. I'm a child of the '80s. Yes, I agree with you. It's all kinda blended the days, though. There's a few powerful men who pull the puppet strings and, but many corporations are on board with it, but not just companies like Lockheed Martin, but also news media and social media. They control the information, guide you to the conclusions the man behind the curtain wants you to come to. We need more free-thinkers to help save our world from this corruption.
There is a young singer you should check out named Jackson Dean. His style is a bit of country rock. He's only 22, but has a very mature sounding voice. His album Green broke and his live album Live at the Ryman is a total favorite.

I see a few suggestions for "A Reason To Fight". It is a great song with a positive message to those battling their inner demons. But it *is* an acoustic ballad (similar to Hold On To Memories), so if you choose this one, get ready for the feels. I still suggest 'Shout 2000' (cover) or 'Are You Ready' (original) if you want to continue with their metal material. I also saw someone suggest "Indestructible". This one is also a great original song to try! I can't wait to see where you go to next!

Not having seen Disturbed much yet you won't have realised The Guy. The cloaked figure leading the revolution pops up quite often in their animated videos and band t shirts. Watch out for him

You skip their older hard stuff and ease into it via some of their newer: Here's my recommend: "Hold onto the Memories" then "The Light" the another cartoon "The Vengeful One" and then "Never Again". Do the official videos on all them except never again. That one live from Israel is a must. After that then maybe some of their harder stuff.

Its got some very powerful and poignant Lyrics.
Unfortunately, Disturbed did not do a video for this song. But there is a lyric video, which is great, because understanding the lyrics makes the song :)
I would highly recommend this one for your next. Its not as heavy as Down with sickness (Which is also a great song)

I liked Collins’ version of the song, because it was a gentle lament, but Disturbed put more anger, rage and disappointment in the vocals. To me, it sounds more urgent and tragic, rather than Genesis’ version that sounds like a battle hymn about a century after the tragedy. That’s just my take on it.
Listen to Down With The Sickness but be warned there's a song deeper that just came out in October of 2022 it's called Unstoppable but that song is way deeper than Down With The Sickness be warned
Don't get me wrong when I say this but I'm not a fan of when people are suggested "Sound of Silence" as their first Disturbed song. It honestly sounds nothing like the bands actual vibe. Again, I'm not saying I don't like the song or anything like that, I'm just not a fan of when people are told to start there. To hear what they REALLY sound like you should listen to one of their original tracks. Might I suggest "Awaken" I'll drop a link for you.
