    I’ve called Marty and The Fabulous Superlatives the best band in country music. I’ll have to rephrase that-they’re the best band in ANY kind of music! If there’s a band out there that can equal them, I’d love to hear it!

    Who would think Marty would take up this song. And, yet, once he starts singing, it all makes sense. It’s a Marty - shapeable song.

      Well, actually, Chris Scruggs plays steel guitar from time to time. They are an awsome band, yes, for sure! I saw the band during Covid time a month after you did-October 16 or 17, 2021. No autographs, but his guitar roadie - let me have one of Marty’s picks and take pics of the front and back of his mandolin and his B-bender Martin-so kind for sure! Glad you got to see them, too!❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉Thanks for uploading your video. Subbed.❤❤❤🎉🎉❤❤

    Wow. I was 9 when I first heard this tune come scratchin' out from the tiny speaker of my coveted transistor radio. Psychedelic music became imprinted on my brain and a love of heavy rock and metal soon followed throughout the seventies and eighties! To hear C&W artist Marty Stewart cover this Count 5 classic of my youth here? Priceless!

    This band can fuse so many styles. When I saw them with McGuinn, they did the old retro psychedelic thing perfectly. I think this is now my official favorite touring band! Kenny V - can't get much better.

      I'm with you HJ -- they cover STYLES and do them all equally well. They're just flat out pure PROS. Going from amazing surf, to straight forward old-school country to gospel to bluegrass-y stuff is hard, and they just do it all. And that's BEFORE their insanely good VOCAL harmonies.

    Marty and the guys can put anything across, you name it and they'll play it! The main riff has always made me think of Suzy Q and smokestack lightening. They have covered everything from the count 5, Buddy Holly, Buck Owens, bluegrass and all points in between nailing them all. Kenny is an absolute master not forgetting Marty with the Clarence White B Bender they can trade riffs and solos with ease. Here the B Bender is at rest as Marty lays down the rhythm, is he playing an esquire?

    I used to go to the Fremont Theater many a time as a kid to watch movies during the summer of my youth. Some of those films included JOURNEY TO THE LOST CITY (1960), THE LOST WORLD (1960), LOST WORLD OF SINBAD (1965), MARA OF THE WILDERNESS (1965), SNOW WHITE AND THE THREE STOOGES (1960), THE SWORD AND THE DRAGON (1960), and WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH (1971). The local Parents Teacher Association had a deal going down with the Fremont Theater to show these movies and many more on Saturday afternoons, and we kiddies got our tickets, and had a good time. I even saw a few Disney flicks on those Saturday afternoons, such as THE BISCUIT EATER (1973), NOW YOU SEE HIM NOW YOU DON’T (1972), and my all-time Walt Disney movie 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA (1954). At least the Fremont Theater is still in business, even if it’s just a music hall with an occasional movie being shown. But what good times I had back in the day.

    I went to high school with the Count Five, Many comments indicate some sort of Yardbird rip off. Obviously, the Count Five
    were influenced by the Yardbirds, but also the Kinks< Beatles and in general, the British groups. When they played teen club dances, they played as many Kinks, Beatles, Animals and other groups as much as they did Yardbirds. Psychotic Reaction was written and re-written several times. With the help of Brian Lord, a San Jose disk Jockey, Psychotic became the song it is today. Most of the British groups were influenced by American blues artists. In particular, the Yardbirds were influenced by Sonny Boy Williamson and Howlin Wolf. The Yardbird song "I'm a Man' is associated most with Psychotic Reaction. "I'm a Man" was written and performed by Bo Diddley. So, as you can see, every band is influenced by someone, including the Beatles. Psychotic Reaction charted up to #5 on Billboard, while the Yardbirds never had a song go any higher than #6 in the US. Not bad considering the drummer and singer were only 19 , the lead was 17 and the bass and harmonica player were 18. The group had their own unique sound and were a lot of fun to dance to. They had a real tight sound and were influenced by many different artists.

He was a Senior when I was a Sophomore, you know the way that works. I was very good friend of Kenn, the harmonica player, and John Byrne, the singer. But as I said, I knew all of them well because I went to ALL of their practices and most of their local gigs,

    • @jcheck6
      @jcheck6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rickconrad6657 That is pretty cool Rich, thanks. A group that does the best cover of Psychotic Reaction is led by Tom Petty. You probably know Butch's history; after college became a Navy pilot flying P-3's then flew for Delta Air Lines and passed in the late 90's from I believe a heart issue. Never met him but the connection is that I am a retired pilot.
