I've had my BMW i8 for two weeks now, and I love it! Check out my initial thoughts about the car and a little explanation as to why I decided to get it.

Why all the hate on Eddie?? Seriously! I feel bad for the guy! You guys are being assholes because he got the car he likes, did I mention none of us can afford the car? You guys act like the car is a piece of shit but if you had the choice of the i8 to a bike, hell I'm sure 99.9% of us would choose the i8. The BMW i8 is the "poor" mans 918. 😂😂😂😂. Poor to own a 140 k car.
Haha yeah I agree, but 140k is quite a bit less than 800k (ish) for a 918 when it was released

+Drunk people with firearms I don't think that's the same... i8 is a hybrid super/sports car like the 918 though its more of a hyper car. rs7 is a super sedan and the aventador is a supercar. big difference.
+Red Since you take that into account I see your point, I just didnt see a need to place the i8 and the 918 side by side, the i8 is rather more ideal for a more smooth and relaxed drive whereas it can deliver exitement whenever desired, the 918 itself is amazing but if I wanted that much hyperactivity, I would buy one. But we all have our preferences of course

I know what you mean, but there's something about the i8 that makes it special and gives it an edge over the M6 (in certain aspects)

The i8 may not have gobs of horsepower, but its hybrid drivetrain gives it instant response. It's like a slower but far less expensive McLaren P1 or Porsche 918 Spyder.
Beautiful car and still fun to drive. It's also rare. Good for you.

Tesla is WAY more practical - the i8 is virtually a 2-seater, back seats for legless children. Also it would have been great fun to spank Parker's Huracan if he got the Tesla!
Alexander Nevsky Having an full on electric car is by no means practical in the world we live in today. Good luck not running out of battery on your 500mile trip and good luck charging your Tesla when your electricity goes out at night the day before your big interview. Remember when your smartphone battery died when you needed it the most? Same shit is more than likely to happen when you own a tesla. Hybrid cars make more sense and FYI the i8 charges as it drives when the battery runs down.

Still very surprised with the choice of an i8. It's just not a car guy's car, it's too digital and doesn't seem sporty enough. It seems like BMW is trying way too hard to being futuristic and edgy. The appearance (in my opinion) is too gimmicky and tacky and tries too hard to be futuristic and bold. If I had the cash I would've gone with the M6, but it's your car and I hope you enjoy the purchase.

Hey Eddie, I was wondering about the battery charge on the car. In TopGear, they said that you need to put in on sport mode in order to charge the batteries. How about your car?

Some questions about the i8 for a normal consumer:
how often do you need to refuel? I saw on TopGear and they say the i8 has a very small fuel tank.
what are the required service for the car like? is it anymore expensive or freq as a normal car?
what is the road noise... the comfort level like? is it stiff? does the different drive mode alter that?
and specific concern when you recharge at home? do you need to get someone to put a different voltage outlet at your house? (like the teslas? )

I found your review to be very useful. I am from Windsor, Ontario (not sure how much snow you get in Ann Arbor, MI), but do you plan on using this vehicle in the winter? Do you have a "winter beater"?
+BravoAlphaOmega we get quite a bit of snow in Michigan too! The car is awd, and people put snow tires on them and drive them in the winter. I haven't decided what I will do yet, I might take it out occasionally, and yes, I have another car that I can use in the winter.

In '92 1/2 I bought a 3 gen RX7. I did exhaust, then (because that messed up the sequential turbos) single large turbo. Then 3 rotor swap (oh the bump steer) eventually a 700HP 2700 lb car. But I couldn't drive it to the store without a pit crew. Got married. Wife threw shade. Sold the 3 rotor and bought a 4 door Lexus GS 400. The coolest car in the parking lot at my work.
