    The fruit that you had in the Machu Picchu hotel is golden berries or gooseberries, in Peru we call (aguaymanto) and is not tomatoes at all, is so good and you can eat in ice-cream too😋

    I cannot believe how regulated and regimented Machu Picchu has become. I was there in 1981, there was already a small hotel at the top (nothing close in price that what you were charged). Entry was free.... I woke up early and entered the site at 6AM, there was no control, and had Machu Picchu for myself until 10AM when the first tourists from Cusco arrived. It was magic. There was patches of fog coming from the Urubamba river (the river in your video), the sun lighting progressively the whole place... One of my best travel memory.

      @deborahgodley6980 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Unfortunately,the huge number of tourists and constant demand to visit has created the need for regulation in order to protect the site!

    • @Tristan_de_Kermadec
      @Tristan_de_Kermadec 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@deborahgodley6980 You are right, but site protection is not the only reason for the regulations. Another factor is that the governments of the countries where these world marvels are located have learned over the years to better monetize the access to their archaeologic treasuries.

    A few corrections on the video from someone who lived in the area for 3 years and worked in tourism.
    1. max and occy most likely took the long trek through Santa Teresa. From Ollantaytambo it's about 1h40 by train, so definitely they did not trek for only 2 hours. Even from Santa Teresa, it's more than that.
    2. There are more hotels further away from the train station where you can get accommodation without any noise from the train, eg. Hotel Taypikala
    3. to get the bus to Machu Picchu, I recommend you buy your tickets ahead of time, at the same time when you buy your tickets to the citadel. This is one less local trip and waiting line your skipping in Águas Calientes. This is essential if you're planning to go to Machu Picchu at the 6am schedule.

  • @MalaysiaBarista
    @MalaysiaBarista 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    Love your video . It have the perfect amount of ratio of travel to destination, lodging, food, and the destination in the video. Hate it when people post travel video, which is 99% food, or 99% bus/train. Keep up with the good work ;) Machu looks beautiful, the scenery looks superb, and looks very well kept and maintained. Definitely worth a spot in people’s bucket list.

  • @rebekahlow8375

    I love Pepa having her own bed in the hotel! The room view is awesome. The sound of the river would be heaven for me. The bus looked very nice. The ride was beautiful.It looked like some very tight corners!! If money is not an issue,staying close to Machu Picchu with meals on the premises would be worth $1000 - $2000.Being able to spend all the extra time exploring the views etc... would be very special. People spend that much on hotels where they are not surrounded by anything of historical or cultural value all the time.Example cruise ships,theme parks,sport events etc... Your filming of Machu Picchu was wonderful!! I've never seen it up close or seen all the places around it.I didn't know about the river. Fabulous video!!! Love from Vermont

    Tim and Fin~ we bought your Tripped back pack and several of your compression bags before we launched out on our 1500 mile motorcycle trip covering four states.

    Something that wasn't mentioned about the guided tours.
    I took a private guided tour (With 4 other people) a few years back, and the guided part was only just over an hour, and gave me some incredible perspective about the city, the location, the people, culture and technology of the place.
    After the tour we had an hour and a half to roam the place on our own.
    Having the info (and someone to answer my many questions) while being immersed in the ruins, then having time to just wander and take it in, really gave a magical feeling to the whole place.
    Not certain if the group tours are the same, but highly recommend the private tours.

    We were just there in late June, and splurged to stay at the Sanctuary after the 4 days, 3 nights on the Inca Trail. We agree it was so worth it - having a nice shower in the hospitality room after 4 days on the trail, before our guided tour of lower Machu Picchu was wonderful (got to see upper Machu PIcchu when coming from the Sun Gate off the Inca Trail). And like you experienced, it was wonderful the next morning to be some of the first into Machu Picchu, and we hiked Waynapicchu on the second day there. (Yes it is steep, but worth it if you enjoy hiking and don't have a strong fear of heights). The all inclusive food was amazing, as was the wonderful support and services provided by the employees. The Sanctuary offered to take our packs down to Aguas Calientes when we left, and hold them until we got on the train was an unexpected surprise that helped us explore Aguas Calientes without carrying those packs. No extra charge for that - but of course a nice tip for the porters that did that for us.
    We have a picture from the same bench on the Orchid Trail. Such an amazing place, you are so close the the crowds visiting Machu Picchu, but feel so far away.

    I got there the other way , i got a mini bus from Ollyantambo to Hydro Electrica and then walked at the side of the train tracks to Aquas Calientes and stayed in the Natvius hostel in January 2017 for around 7€ , It`s also better if you arrive in Cusco to get out of there as fast as possible and get to Ollyantambo because Cusco is Higher than Macchu Picchu , so it is easier to Acclimatise in Ollyantambo , also from Ollyantambo you can spend a few days there and visit the salt mines and also maras moray

    I’m going to Peru in a month. Your video was great! Thank you! How is the water? A filter will help the quality of water or I would need to buy plastic bottles?

    We were there in Jan. 2017 in a small group,11. We had a tour with our guide in the afternoon and stayed in town overnight then we took one of the first bus rides in the morning and hiked to the Sun gate in the fog. When we got down the fog cleared and we got great pictures from the overlook. It looks like Covid added more rules on where you can go and when. I don't think you really need the hotel at the top.
