I’m definitely going to add the celery, onions and sour cream next time I make mashed potatoes. Looks delicious! I enjoyed watching the steps of this recipe. Please don’t worry about showing inside the pot as you cook, it’s good enough as it is. The vintage apron is a nice touch. Someone gave me some they had collected, but they are for very skinny people! Finally: please do a video sometime where you show us your vintage stove. It caught my eye immediately, with the clock on the front, and I belong to a vintage appliances group that would LOVE to see a video demonstrating all the buttons, etc. there are TH-cam videos showing all kind of vintage large home appliances. Yummy 😋 back in Ireland we add white cabbage and onion with cream and butter it's called colcannon al my grandmother used to use spring onions and buttermilk in her mash potatoes (champ) with a fried egg on top but I will be trying your recipe 😋 💕
Your recipe is fascinating. I can’t imagine buttermilk in mashed potatoes. But then, I couldn’t imagine making cakes with buttermilk, and I soon learned how good they were. Even at my age I’ve much to learn.

I agree about manually mashing the potatoes. My mother used a rice press to squeeze the potatoes through. I will try your recipe using a little less butter.
Im just now starting your video but before I forget I wanted to share with you what I LOVE doing with my potatoes, I love to add BROWNED BUTTER, they don’t just take them up a notch, they take them up and over the top!!! I still use a mixer for my potatoes and rarely get pasty mashed potatoes. I used a potato masher first. The key to fluffy potatoes is to warm a bit of milk first. Cold milk makes pasty potatoes. Love watching each and every video!

Thank you for sharing that mashed potatoes recipe. You are not alone with that t-shirt shrinkage, some of my faves cut short after washing & drying. Now, I hang dry my fave blouses & shirts. By the way, I have gained that "spare tire"...COVID weight, that's what I say.
When I was growing up in England we had white potatoes or King Edwards which were red and white (patches). My mom liked King Edward potatoes, they had a yellow colour when peeled. Every meal in the evening we had meashed potatoes. Spaghetti was unheard of unless it was in a tin.

I lost my grandmother in 2010 and I miss her so much - I wanted to let you know that I have been watching a miniseries - it's a period piece set in the late 19th century in Lexington, Kentucky - I thought you would love to look for that and watch it - it's called "legacy" and it's all centered around horse racing and of course Kentucky politics but very good!! I have been to Lexington several times, and it is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been to. Would love to get down that way sometime again - I live about 5 hours North of Paducah in Central Illinois (Clinton) - a very historic town that is famous for Abraham Lincoln and we have a lot of history in Clinton in regards to his time that he set in on court cases in Clinton (DeWitt County) Illinois, learned to play billiards here, stayed overnight in a hotel that is still standing, gave speeches here, and practiced law with CH Moore for which we have a beautiful Homestead and Museum in his honor. This is the first time that I have posted - how wonderful that you still have 2 sisters left and the closeness of your family. God Bless you!!
It sounds wonderful! I have been to a little historic town where you cross a bridge and you are in Illinois. It was so pretty. Can’t remember the town but it had a restaurant called the Magnolia (I think). Not too far from Evansville, IN.

This is actually a version of Pennsylvania Dutch potato filling. I sauté onion, celery in butter, then add bread cubes & let that sauté a little. Add to mashed potatoes & beat 2 eggs in it also. Put in casserole dish & baked till golden brown.

After you add the butter to your potatoes, be sure and add hot milk. You will know how much if you pour a little at a time. I forgot to do that in the video.

Lids don’t fit! You’re so funny! Using a hand masher keeps them fluffier and doesn’t whoop the air out of them( destroy the cellular structure). Cropped tops are in, go for it!

One of my closest girlfriends married Colonel Sanders's grandson, Harland Adams. They had two children, a son and a daughter, but they eventually divorced. Both Harland and my friend are deceased now. I really miss her.

They say that spare tire will be the death of me. My doctor once told me I would live to be 103. To heck with that spare tire! LOL
