    Great job guys. Fixing vehicles, not just replacing parts. Think of the waste replacing the whole assembly would be on the environment as well. Not to mention the cost! Saved the environment and the customer a lot of money!!

      The environmental aspect of replacing EV batteries is undoubtedly a major concern.

      Battery packs are recycleable. Elements like lithium don't degrade and can be recovered and used for another battery. This process is already way less CO2 intensive than the original mining. And both are getting better all the time.

    Good work people , When we consider that around 50 % of repair work is misdiagnosed and money is wasted on work that was not required , there is a lot of opportunity to improve what is done.
    Dont settle for one opinion , If you feel you are being lied to or not getting an accurate assessment then shop around and talk to others before spending the $$$

    You guys have done a good job. Here we have Isolation issues / bad cells and bms issues in Nissan Leaf/Mitsubishi MiEV and Outlander battery packs. As you mentioned right tools and technical knowledge is important for a successful repair job.

    I have a mitsubishi Outlander PHEV on 316,000 miles still on the original engine and battery! The battery is now down to 55% however and given 20% is reserved for hybrid use there is little point in charging it up these days. I am planning a replacement pack soon.

    Awesome video..super helpful as I navigate the idea of buying a late model Leaf with the 9-10 bars and overtime possibly getting individual packs/cells or even whole pack replaced as prices fall. :) Cheers from Victoria BC :)

    Thank you very much! Investing in the EV rollout and support …. Many many thanks. The dealerships don’t seem to be doing any of this. Is there a list of you folks??? I have a wonderful old Leaf with lots of use left that the dealership has no business dealing with after $2500 pricetag involving replacement with❤ aftermarket parts. And yes they are not sure if the next step should have been the first. The price for that replacement is $2375. Crazy. They spend a lotta time on the phone with Nissan deciphering codes. Obviously they don’t know how to troubleshoot EVs. And I do mean the EV Tech on rotation staff hopping between several regional dealerships. On the phone with Nissan figuring out error codes.

  • @williamarmstrong7199
    @williamarmstrong7199 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Typical of the dealership to quote a stupid price to replace.
    I can get a replacement low milage 64KWh pack for my MG5 for only £4,400. Not that I need one. I am on 112,500 trouble free miles with no loss of range so far.

    As an EV/Hybrid car tech (Mclaren, Lotus and Maserati), tell your tech to wear the gloves when disconnecting the MSD :O

      @Hejavra 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The person in the video was wearing black rubber gloves which are insulating to some degree. But I'd be interested to understand why handling the MSD might be dangerous even without any protective gloves. It's made of plastic. Thanks

    Its stoked that you're able to source the battery module and that the OEM was willing to sell to you. I work on Apple devices...hah, good luck trying to get any OEM to talk to us, cuz Apple goes out of their way to prevent us techs from buying direct, so we have to salvage donor parts. Ah....but now they pair the parts to the motherboard to keep from swapping even OEM parts. Can you believe it?
    I hope your business thrives. EVs are a good idea, but the business side of it can quickly make this into a nightmare.

    I don't understand why manufacturers would not offer a part exchange or a partial refund depending on state of batteries. Used batteries still have value for use as home storage .

    How many Tesla need battery replace?

    • @_EVfriendly
      @_EVfriendly  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      According to Elon Musk, Tesla batteries last for 300,000 to 500,000 miles, or 1,500 battery cycles.

    • @greyeyes172
      @greyeyes172 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps such modules could be located outside of the battery pack for easy access.

    • @ericcindycrowder7482
      @ericcindycrowder7482 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A problem with some of the newer tesla batteries, they are built a little differently than the battery in this video. Tesla uses 1000s of small cylinder type batteries. On many of their newer cars, they placed the 1000s of cylinders in a modular then fill all the gaps with a potting agent. It’s impossible to access the cylinders or some of the BMS boards because of the potting. Most Teslas have about 5 or so modules in the battery pack but impossible to do lever repair inside the module because of the potting.

    EV battery repair is well developed in Europe, China, Russia. In US with a million or more EV on the road it's almost impossible to find a shop competent in EV maintenance.

    Stuff missing here: The battery pack has a warrantee and this car was not old. The old battery pack can be sold or exchanged, as there will be a massive market for refurbed batteries.

    • @mandmwaddle
      @mandmwaddle ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This battery does not have a warranty. This car was only sold in California. It was then imported into Canada. Fiat Canada will not repair or replace this battery pack. Fiat USA will not warranty the battery after the car has left the USA.

    aftermarket and Repairs of EV‘s are the big gap in the story. I know that manufacturers and their Devon networks would love to keep all of the repairs in House but there is a right to repair principle at stake.
