I've been doing Computer Graphics for 24 years. It is my career and how I pay the bills. I have learned, studied, and used over 100 major software programs since 1994 when I first started Adobe Illustrator on an old mac at school. I can learn software through patterns faster than anyone I know. Zbrush is the only fucking program I threw my mouse against the wall and broke trying to learn....and attempted to use, and gave up on, at least 5 times over the last 10 years. It's like some piece of bullshit form an Alien world where everything is wrong, all the rules are different, up is down and down is up, and everything is warped. Finally after a year I can make pretty badass terrain in Zbrush, but I still can't even use 80% of the program, can break my entire project and have to start over with no idea how to fix it if I hit one wrong button, and remain half afraid to even look in most of the menus (Which still look like a foreign launguage) for worry that I'll wreck my project and throw the mesh into that bullshit 2.5 ether thing where I'll never be able to modify it again. It's an amazing program but it's a living hell to learn that will send anyone to the bottom of a bottle.
I'm only a couple of minutes in (have had ZBrush for almost a year), and you've described my exact reaction each time! Also, you're extremely entertaining which keeps me engaged, unlike some of the other videos I've tried. I've got hope again, thanks!

No fast-forwarded video capture, step by step descriptions, simplified examples, descriptioning the important tools that we have to use oftenly in Zbrush.. I never encountered that kind of instructive tutorial even among the whole Gnomon Workshop tutorials until today.. Thanks a lot @TroubleShot !

awesome tutorial, I agree with you, i bought this program today and some tutorial guys just go off sculpting on the fly not explaining anything. This tutorial however is perfect and really in depth, the whole duplication part was really good to know, keep doing videos!
Thanks for the instructions. The audio was fine...I was able to clearly hear all the spicy language. But all-in-all I enjoyed, and probably thought the same at the time, the colorful expressions about the interface! Thanks again.
Not going to lie, I almost did a spit take when I learned how to zoom the camera in and out. Seems unnecessarily convoluted. Great tutorial btw. I have a hard time following long tutorials since they put me to sleep, but your laid back approach kept me interested.

Good luck. Unfortunately this tutorial is a bit dated as the program has made some really convenient strides as of late. Stick with it and you’ll get it.

Don’t give up just yet. It’s got a confusing crap interface but if you stick with it you’ll get better. Just don’t be afraid to start over. I started out sculpting insects. They are small and relatively simple but it pushed me to look deeper. To sweat the details and follow the form. I learned a lot. And you can too.

Dude, 4 minutes of this video gave me more useful info than 2 hours of HOW TO CREATE REALISTIC MODELS FAST USING ZSPHERE bullshit or "beginner tutorial on how finalize sculpture" without ANY tips on interface. I've spent 2 days only looking for how the fk i go to sculpt mode and i only needed to sculpt hair on top of a head created in mudbox. jeez.. thanks you man
