Can You Beat PIKMIN 1 With Only Yellow Pikmin?

- Pikmin has always been a favorite of mine, due to it's cute aesthetic and the way it bounces back and forth between easy and frustratingly difficult puzzles.
But what if we took out 2/3 of the solutions?
Can you beat Pikmin 1 with only Yellow Pikmin?

Did you miss last week's video? Don't worry, that's just how you know the TH-cam algorithm is working: th-cam.com/video/bDqxfF7pbsY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=g1Bgc2r6ln2zZXrj
Typical youtube, always keeping the gold to himself...
You should do a sekiro run I don't know what kind of run but I have been playing it recently and found it quite fun and maybe a kingdom hearts run
I'm more impressed with Nintendo, Kirby aside, never thought such a colorful kids-looking game could have such a backstory. Also, pure Oxygen IS really toxic, the only reason we are able to breathe it without our lungs being chemically burned is because: A) mucosae in the lungs and
B) it is already mixed with other elements in the air, so we can process it
Your video made me look up if Overlord or Pikmin was first^^ Pikmin came first...
Whens the ohko ds1 runs releaseing
This is the kind of video which turns Pikbois into Pikmin.
That made me laugh harder than it had any right to
@@Shark_Dudesame. And that's why I hated it.
ay yo pikboi gang
Thats why i hated you @@Terminal__Velocity
that's a good one
For those curious, is it actually very possible to get ship parts out of the water. Lemon was on the right track, he just needed another object like an enemy corpse or pellet to push into the ship part onto land. For a more in depth showcase I would recommend looking up Mokaygee's Red Pikmin only run of the game.
I hope for an Update if he manages to get this done
@@GlutzahnLP I would too though I would assume it would need to be done on the gamecube version of the game as some of the tech used in Mokaygee's original run would probably not work on the wii port (correction: not actually the case)
Didn't he try to use a pellet?
My red only run shows how to do it all without blues. It all works on Wii and switch, and should in fact be easier.
@@Mokaygee Good to know from the original source!
That ending was crushing. Definitely did not see it coming. The struggle, the heartbreak, the grim acceptance of you fate. Dam, you really used your writing skills to turn a failed challenge run into one of your most emotional endings. That's what makes you great Lemon. It's not just about how you play the game. It's how you tell people about playing it. Great video, despite my tears I really enjoyed it and was once again blow away by your skills as a storyteller.
my exact thoughts
I swear, sometime Lemon just whip out the most random game, with challenge out of thin air. Well... Thanks Lemon for showing me this masterpiece that I never know I needed.
Succulent Pikmin could be yours for a low price... Enjoy the joy of purpose and brilliant commanding.
It's called a backlog for a reason.
Pikmin is a must have for everyone.
Enjoy improving your dandori skills over the course of 4 games, friend.
Nintendo make a smart decision for once and put all 4 games on Switch. I will say that Pikmin 1 has some pretty bad first game syndrome, and the later games get much better.
One correction at 10:00.
Flower pikmin also trip less.
So that can technically count as becoming better fighters because if they fall off an enemy and need to run away from being killed, not tripping can let them live to fight again.
No they don't
Came for the firebombs stayed for the feels. Lemon knows how to turn a family game into dark drama
Well done
Further, despite playing poorly, I could at least tell he was kind of doing so intentionally hinting what we knew that this might not be possible. He clearly knew his stuff but wanted to keep with the lore in a way that made it feel like maybe a player's second time playing the game. Well done.
Wow, that was a really surprisingly somber finale. Great video though, glad to see the little yellow fellas get some love. They were always my favorites
Using dearly beloved during the ending is a low blow Lemon. Such a good pick.
Pikmin 1 is kinda weird, a lot of the parts you'd think aren't required actually are required because yes there is a list of required parts. I don't know any glitches that could help but I kinda knew it was doomed at the start because the part on the large tower with the small pool of water is a required one. Still a wonderful run and you pushed the limits as much as you could.
funny thing, can actually get that with the flop mechanic. Requires some configuring to get pushed onto the ledge but once you get up there its pretty easy to flop it down into the waiting arms of your piks.
Actually all the submerged parts are achievable with flops, its just tricky as heck to position things properly
My best guess is that the ship has a fail-safe that automatically shuts it down when certain devices are missing.
Like the pilot's seat, you'd think it wasn't needed but then imagine piloting for weeks, if not months, without a proper seat.
@@micheal7932 While that is true that that'd suck, I don't think that shutting off and crashing is the preferable alternative.
It's like when Lemon expressed worry about Olimar flying pretty high up without radiation shielding. Sure, it's pretty unhealthy and might take years of his life, but if he doesn't it's instant death.
@@marzipancutter8144Yeah, Pikmin 4 kind of hints at what would've happened (and confirms what would've happened to Olimar after he dies since funnily enough...the bad ending is canon...sort of...thanks to Moss), it seems that for one reason or another, the atmosphere makes the ships of the explorers act funny and having all the parts seems to give him the best chance to break free, but emphasis on "chance" as when he returns to drop Moss off, his ship crash lands anyway, implying that even with all 30 parts, he just got lucky...twice.... or 4 times if you count Pikmin 2 and depending on what you believe PIkmin 3's timeline is, 5.
You just HAD Dearly Beloved. Tearing up for a character in a game I never played. Great video
"I still have some time to kill, so I decide it is indeed *time to kill,* and murder as many small preditors as I can with my bare fists!"
Let it be known that these chalenge runs aren't just for entertainment, *they're to keep Lemon distracted.*
The addition of Dearly Beloved at the end was cruel Lemon. That song has a way of evoking emotions in me that I thought had long since shrivelled up and died. It has a way of tugging at my heart strings, from a time, long long ago, when a younger me still had dreams for what the future could hold. Damn you Lemon! I'm not crying, YOU'RE CRYING! Great vid as always though.
Very well done. Esp. the ending.
The Overlord games took a lot of inspiration from Pikmin and your creatures there are absolutely hilarious but I'm pretty sure it's unbeatable with only a single type of creature.
I wonder if you can beat Overlord without loosing a Minion in battle.
@@thyrussendria8198 "Unlikely" would be a "tiny" understatement.
@@kaltaron1284 Unlikely is not impossible, especially if you have infinite firebombs thanks to the Red Minions
@@kaltaron1284 As someone who got kinda OCD about it: I'm pretty sure I did, first playthrough.
I know I beat Pikmin that way, cause it just sorta bugged me if they died.
@@thyrussendria8198 Red Minion firebombs? Don't they only throw l;ittle fireballs?
So, here's how Pikmin 1's win condition works.
If your only goal is to escape the planet and get the neutral ending, there are only 29 ship parts. Collecting 29 ship parts unlocks the final area which contains the final ship part, which is optional. There are five optional ship parts in the game and, ironically, Lemon already collected the other four. The Nova Blaster, Space Float, Massage Machine, and UV Lamp were the optional parts. If you're not going for all 30 ship parts, there is literally no point in collecting those parts at all.
Out of the 11 parts Lemon couldn't collect, 10 of them were required. The game was rigged from the start.
The crossover I didn't know I wanted, but I'm very happy it's here!
For a moment, the thumbnail had me thinking this was about winning with one yellow pikmin. What a legend they'd have to be
We knew it was "possible" but infeasible.... it's like when someone tries Kaizo Mario hacks or a TAS viable trick on controller to see if they can do it in real time. It's technically possible but extremely unfeasible in a real time run without a ton of precision. Still this looked like a genuinely fun challenge to try casually. Get as many ship parts as possible using only Yellows. Then once all of them are gotten, only then switch to blues and only use the Blues to bring the parts out of the water. I like how he used Yellows to solve all the bridge puzzles as well, proving you can access every part yellow only, just not bring them back.
You can't handle those
😅

35:40 you did not just hit me with dearly beloved and exploit my childhood against me XD
Kingdom hearts references are always appreciated! ALWAYS!
Idk why, but the "oh hey i can see manus from up here." Made me laugh way harder than i shouldve
Well that was a real tearjerker of an ending.
I love pikmin, but I love pikmin 2 even more, favorite one was the water dungeon with the water guy on rollers.
The Sunken Castle I think? You make it vulnerable with purple pikmin first, right?
@@danielhuelsman76If you're talking about the water wraith yes your correct it's scared of purple Pikmin so you should throw them at it to scare it then go crazy with your other Pikmin
3 is my favor5
@@danielhuelsman76 yeah!
@@danielhuelsman76Submerged Castle, to be precise.
I like to imagine the yellow Pikmin are actually Lemon's chat members. He really used his Firebomb Academy students to complete a challenge run. Glad to be of service good Lemon. o7 (I nearly cried at the end.....just rip my heart out why don't you.)
Amazing storytelling as ever Lemon. Man whenever I hear Dearly Beloved it makes me well up
Ah KH. The series that got me started in gaming. What a masterful series
True that. True that. Let your heart be your guiding key!
“I’m starting to think we’re not a good captain, but we are a semi-decent leader” those mean the same things
You know, in my old age I had forgotten how simultaneously wholesome, bittersweet, and god damned DARK that ending of pikmin 1 is.
the pikmin typing reminds me of the old overlord games
edit: where you have the goblins of different types
same ^^
The sonic drowning music still haunts me today
I've never even considered doing a challenge run of a Pikmin game, but honestly, this is a really interesting idea. I should try this myself. I usually just kind of do the exact same things each time I play through.
Thank you for the never ending mountain of content, you've easily become one of my favorite comfort channels while I game and have sparked my interest in a whole bunch of games that are now in.. my backlog.
Absolutely soul-crushing how it all worked out, but a lot of fun to watch just the same.
Great video, Lemon. Really makes me want to go back and play Pikmin actually. 🤔
Hey Lemon! New subscriber. Thanks for all the entertaining videos. They helped me get through the stress of the holidays!
Cool I get to see a unlisted video ❤❤❤❤❤
Ah, how wonderful. I always love seeing more Pikmin content on the internet. And it makes me happy that you put your own little spin on Pikmin. I hope you do more challenge runs for the other games as well.
The challenges are a lot of fun, of course, but your storytelling is always the highlights, man
This game was easily at least a third of my childhood, if not more. It's been brought back into the limelight recently, with Pikmin 4 and the Switch ports of Pikmin 1 + 2, but I'm still glad to see it getting some more love.
"Oh hey, I think I can see Manus from up here."
It is now my head canon that Pikmin and Dark Souls belong in the same universe because it's really, really funny to think about.
This was so hearthwarming, Lemon. Thx for the run and the speech at the end.
Wasn’t expecting Pikmin but I am HERE FOR IT! Look forward to all the videos !
wasn't expecting to hear dearly beloved at the end, i almnost cried Lemon, for a pikmin game!!!!
I didn't know how much hearing "The spoils of war" in regards to a Pikmin game would make my brain fire serotonin.
4:55 "great minds think alike."
yes because the pikmin sure are smart.
Got me in the gut with that supreme use of Dearly Beloved. A salute to the captain and his crew 1000 strong, may they continue on and flourish in his absence.
Lemon you didn't have to use the kingdom hearts music, that makes me cry every time from nostalgia and feels
Hooray for unexpected weather
A new Backlogs video? During my lunch break at work? Wonderful timing
This was a game I was not expecting. Finally the series is getting the recognition it deserves
Oh my god, a backlogs video about pikmin… I couldn‘t be happier! Thank you so much for this
Now this is the kind of content i'm living for. The souls challenges and stuff was great, but this is something i was not expecting. I haven't played pikmin since they came out
The way you write your stories always fills me with hope and dread. You inspire me to be more and try different and new things you by far are my favorite TH-camr I love you lemon and Mrs. Lemon now and forever. . .
I’ve only played 3 & 4. While playing 4 I was horrified that I only had 14 days to finish Olimars tale. It’s probably a good thing I’ve never played 1 or I would’ve died under pressure
I love Lemons dark souls videos like everyone
But seeing him finally clearing out the backlogs is nice.
Good video. As always
Hundreds of generations later, in the capital center of now prosperous pikmin civilization, there stands a monument with a sign on it that reads:
"We remember Father Lemon. He descended so we could ascend."
Love the Age of Empires II music at ten minutes in. Been so long since I played and love it even now. That said, I enjoyed this video a lot so I’ll check out some of your other stuff.
man seeing this man play one of my favorite series from nintendo is great and i love it
Love seeing more variety. Keep it up!
We have been having so much snow lately, so your vids are one of the few things that keep me sane
The ending reminded me of something that happened recently. I was playing the first XCOM game last week and I had a bunch of rookies and only my 2 best snipers available to deploy. I sent them in with the idea that these 2 vets would be able to lead the rookies into becoming vets of their own. The team deployed and started out not bad at first. Then the French recruit fell, then the Italian, the Mexican, then my German sniper ‘Zeus’ died. Then the last Russian recruit was killed. Now all that was left was my best sniper, an Australian. He was stuck on a roof, on the ground floor was 3 Mutons, and he only had 2 HP. No matter what I did, how many saves I reloaded, there was no way he could survive. So, I had him fire one last shot at the mutons, and then he was killed.
Dearly beloved got me tearing up there 😔😭 man I love kingdom hearts
Subbed!
Let there be more pikmin rivalry videos!!
So happy to hear that The Prometheus School is offering different classes now!
WTF. :0 NOW PIKMIN CHALLENGES. You are such a chad.
The Dearly Beloved in the background really sets the tone for the video. Great job to the Firebomb Academy, and to you TBL. 🗿
Would LOVE to see challenge videos in pikmin 2, 3, and 4 in the future!!!!
I'm only part-way through the video, but the Gamecube version might have been better for a bomb rock heavy run. While they're more dangerous in the Gamecube version, they're also easier to use, especially in the final boss fight. In that version, when you throw a bomb rock carrier, he'll freeze in place and whistling him will make him drop the bomb. Much easier to use mutliple at once and have them go off exactly where you mean to. The Emperor Bulblax in particular was clearly not well considered when changing the bomb rock mechanics for the Wii version (and later Switch version). It's still doable, but actually stunning him properly takes very precise timing instead of just good positioning. Oh also, the crushing glitch. I forgot about that. It's a real problem on the Wii version. Certain enemy attacks and bridges can push Pikmin through the ground, instantly killing them.
A tear came to my eye at the end but i need more, lemon I beg of you please continue the saga
Nothing is a better sleeping aid than a challenge run I already watched. Earbuds in, eyes closed, nighty night. Thx Lemon for your calm narration that I can enjoy awake and asleep
great plot bro loved this take
6:31 - oh god Steve has survivor's guilt
10:43 - "death by a thousand cuts is still death" okay sick line ngl
MAN NOT THE DEARLY BELOVED!! 😭 they didn't even send olimar into the yellow onion
Never have i expected the Backlogs to play Pikmin and i am all for it
Holy mother of goose. Pikmin 1?

The Kingdom Hearts music at the end was a nice touch
Love the use of dearly beloved, my ears perked up at the first few notes of it😂
Dude will do ANYTHING not to do the Elden Ring Firebomb Only run.
I've played this game many times and never seen the failure scene for it. Thanks for showing me something I never would have seen otherwise
Wow, the Kingdom Hearts music at the end, what a stab in the heart
Honestly this video was a banger and I wouldn't mind seeing you try this in the other Pikmin games
Oh hey! You too? I got buried in by over a foot of snow.
Dearly beloved playing at the ending is just so perfect. Nice video 🤌🏼

That ending was something. Almost made me tear up over pikmin. I think it was the sad music.
Love that Age of Empires 2 music at the 10 min mark
Your voice is relaxing to listen to and it being 4am here, I like that
I WAS TRYING TO SLEEP AND YOU PLAY THE DROWNING SONG, definitely got the effect I think you wanted at the very least

The ending hit the heart harder than any DS lore video could ever try to.
