I came up with the hardest run. I think it may be impossible. You have to play as Petrus. Wear his armor and use his weapon. You have to have the same stats and can't level up, including the weapon. And you can only heal with miracles, no estus allowed.
Whips in 2 are pretty good, esp dual wielded. DS2 had a spacing system where different portions of the weapon had different damage values. It really only came up reapers, a few halberds, and whips. If you hit with the whip tip it did 2-3x damage for some pretty beefy hits, and with practice wasn't too hard to do.
I used a whip for DS3 PvP for awhile and can say it was underrated. I loved the range and it’s weapon art. The damage was a little low, but it was much easier to hit with that most weapons.
Ah yes, the challenge run that taught me to appreciate every single one of a weapon's attacks. The biggest pain of this run by far is when the whip bounces off a wall, so you need to learn the one-handed and two-handed variations of R1, R2, jump attack, roll attack, and running attack just to figure out which hitbox will work in your favor. For those of you wanting to try this run at home without mods, I recommend a modified version called the Belmont run. It's basically the same, but you can use firebombs and throwing knives to simulate Castlevania's sub-weapons. It lets you just firebomb the Asylum Demon, and supplements your weak early-game damage. All in all, another good video. Cool of you to shout out Deathstroke, and I appreciated the Challenger Andy reference as well.
Lemon wasn’t kidding about chat murdering him, I showed up at the community bonfire (where chat tends to watch him) and they were all sharpening blades while I was just kinda standing back scared holding extra kindling I brought for good luck. Glad to see he didn’t need it but still.
Gotta love how everyone in chat was just perpetually sour about what happened to our favorite boy xD 10:55 - Gotta say I love the buildup and the direct payoff here^^
I did a whip playthrough myself, years ago. They’re surprisingly good! I had limited myself to throwing knives, firebombs (as a stand-in for holy water) and charcoal pine resin, to get the full Belmont experience. No magic though. Simon’s too dumb for that kinda thing.
I made the argument for myself that I'm playing as Richter, and having Belnades blood would give him access to lite magic abilities that and uh, I cant live without Power Within and Magic Weapons
You know, given all the crap Simon Belmont has been through and done, and all he's achieved, it seems weird to think that Simon couldn't use some magic... Though apparently he was under practiced in such things by Belmont standards, so I guess it's not an unreasonable take =P
@@Avr33Gaming True, but they've got some pretty good range, and their damage isn't the worst. With some good footwork and well-timed jumps, you can kill many enemies before they can even get to you. Man I really though SPS was gonna be Solaire Protection Squad. My naivety continued even when he hit him since I thought: "oh cool, hitting him stops him from progressing through his storyline, so it's all good" oh how wrong i was.
That Solaire word-play shows you can be as smart as a whip. But that doesn't excuse you from treating him as your whipping boy though!Regardless, I'll give the rest of the video a fair crack of the whip, even though I have other cats to whip.
I loved doing this run. I routed mine to grab the very large ember from new Londo as my very first move, then the large ember from depths, killed stray for my slab and then grabbed titanite from blighttown and Andre. Had a +10 whip before Sen’s and a +15 before O&S. Mix it all with charcoal pine resin and this weapon MELTED bosses way faster than I thought it would. Tons of funs. Notched whip and guardian tail were niche since the late game bosses and enemies love to resist bleed and poison.
As somebody who just recently did a whip run, I have to say that it seriously changes how I tackled certain areas. It makes more open areas like Lost Izalith and Demon Ruins surprisingly easy to handle because the whip's damage is passable once you're accustomed to it; while it also makes narrower areas (and any hill whatsoever) absolutely abysmal to go through. It has given me new appreciation for weapons that can crit, as well as weapons that only strike straight forwards.
I can't overstate this enough, you're the creator that brings me joy when I see your notification on my phone. I love your videos, you deserve everything good in this world.
