Effing wet belts...saving pennies and introducing build in obsolescence... disgusting and it will certainly make sure, that the number of manufacturers will be reduced in the future
I’ve been researching this, main problem here for Ford: they have never explained this decision and the engineering behind a kevlar BIO (Belt In Oil). These are actually smoother, stronger and able to withstand higher RPMs than the gear driven systems they replaced. 7000+ RPM and 1100HP rated. Designed to last ‘the life of the engine’ but no further explanation given. This has been my issue with Ford engineering since I worked in parts at a Ford dealer in 1990. Though they did a great job explaining the design enhancements in the Modular engine lineup including the 4.6 first used in the Lincolns. Fascinating design features, seldom explained to the public like it was explained to techs and parts department like myself.
is it belt failure or oil pump failure my 2020 2.7 says 520 km thats thousand bought it used has issues still will take it where i have to go not sure its original engine ford says it is i dont think the truck has 520 000 km on it i would say maybe 150 000km but who knows
@darrenyoung4893 it was belt failure, previous owner neglected proper oil change intervals, 520,000km on one without changing the oil pump belt would be crazy! Ford suggests changing it at 140,000km
@UnknownIdaho the engine that blew the oil belt was poorly maintained, one oil change was done at 146,000km then the next at 206,000km!! No wonder it died an early death!
not a fan of belts, but growing up in the 80s, plenty of motors failed due to timing chain failures, maintenance is more then oil changes and fresh air fresheners hanging from the mirror
Not my mess, I bought it this way, and yes maintenance is more than oil changes, ( witch this one didn't have enough of) but also the proper oil so the belt doesn't deteriorate
sure the ower didint take good care , but forme all car dealers made a big mistake by installing belts instead of chains like they did before , but it is what it is good luck Hanlons
Chains don't last much anymore either ,I got 130k out of my vr6. They suck cause it's on the trans end of the engine too. It's not really the chains stretching ,but a combo of that and how they're tensioned (hydraulic or spring pressure) and the guides wearing. Definitely better than these 💩 wet belts though. Haa,are these belts a wet 💩, or a 💩wet belt. What a 💩tty design.

Then why does the Mustang not have the BIO system? That's meant for high RPMs
What was the mileage on this one?
Original motor had 217, 000 km replacement engine had 141,000 km

So what was the maintenance on this engine?
Anything poorly maintained is a crap shoot as for longevity.

What a 💩tty design.
Hope the damage is less than it looks !!! Cheers, Bernie
It's done for, oil pan has lots of glitter, this is the old engine that I replaced.
OOOO is that guna be costly or easy fix
I replaced the engine patrick, this is the old one
gm ls oil pumps go at 200 000kms
Yup new school is not cool
Whoops, slight lack of care on the ex owner's part, but I suppose you gain from it
It was my guess right from the beginning, probably would run again with a new belt, but lots of glitter in the oil pan
That'll do it. 😉✌
Yep, the oil pan has alot of glitter!
What a stupid ass design. I believe they started this nonsense on the 2.7 in 2020? I have a 2016 f150 with the 2.7. Good power and good on gas
This one is a 2018, so they did it then, maybe the first year??
YEP Ford has been famous for engine failures with those belt run oil pumps alright. LOL 😆 🤣 😂 😹
The earlier ones were chain I believe, I wonder why they changed it
@@Hanlonsgarage Belts are cheaper than chains
Absolute JUNK
@@walterbatman7949 agreed, had to put a used motor in it just to sell it
Pretty bad design I'd say!
Yes, not very practical for sure
