Is it normal for 880M's to hit 85 Celsius under 99% load for 20+ minutes straight? In a SLI setup, is it also normal for one GPU to run 5-8 Celsius hotter than the other?
That temperature is normal during a benchmark test, which is what I assume you are doing to get it at 99% for 20 minutes. Furmark is a good test to push you GPU and it will hit those temperatures. These are not real world conditions though so your graphics will not hit those temperatures on a regular basis. The temperature variance is normal as the SLI setup uses the cards slightly differently. As always ensure your heatsinks are installed correctly and continue to monitor your temperatures during usage.
+EurocomTechnology Thanks for the very helpful answers! I'll be sure to check out Eurocom when I need to upgrade or repair my P570WM, and looking at the difference between the 880M and 980M, that may happen soon, but I want to see if there ends up being bios support and if the 1080M fits in the MXM 3.0b module first. :)
Just so everyone else knows, I'm using a game called Assetto Corsa to get those temperatures. I'll be sure to check out Furmark, though. The game doesn't have breaks for the GPU to cool down in it, and it uses SLI really well, with 97-99% usage on both cards at all times. My temps, with the stock vbios and stock clocks, are maxing out around 82 Celsius on one card and 86 Celsius on the slave 880M with a dusted out heatsink and fans and freshly re-applied IC Diamond, carefully following IC's application instructions on a Clevo P570WM. From what I know, I think these temperatures are acceptable because lots of people on forums say 880M's run hot, and the automatic GPU boost is also probably to blame for these higher temperatures, too. My two cents.
Wow, so your GPUs are running that hot during normal gaming? That is crazy. It must be an awesome racing simulator. I wouldn't recommend having the GPUs that hot for long periods of time. What laptop do you own? Regardless I would suggest some sort of cooling pad and a really good AC unit.
+EurocomTechnology Haha, it is an awesome game for sure. This is happening on a Clevo P570WM/Sager NP9570. In most other games, my GPU's run around 72-80 Celsius. I have found most people saying their 880M's run in the 80-90's after long periods, so I think this is normal for the cards. I tend to keep my room around 65 to 70 Fahrenheit, so I'll definitely look into a cooling pad. Do you have any recommendations for good cooling pads for the P570WM?
I have an Alienware 18 R3. I am planning on putting in two nvidia gtx 880m GPU's. On the page providing the drivers ( downloads.eurocom.com/support/drivers/upgradeyourlaptop/Alienware/ ), which zip folder do I need to download?

Yaasiin9600 make sure sli is enabled under your GPU properties. If there is no option, make sure your sli cable is connected properly. If both of those are correct, the game you are playing does not support sli
will the base configuration in the link include the upgrade kit components listed in 5:36?
Yes, if that is the upgrade kit that you choose.
I followed these steps exactly but as the bios could not detect my brand new card and would not detect my old ones after I put my 980ms in. Anybody have any suggestions, I updated the bios as well
wow!! im surprised by how much this laptop heat pipes have !! and 3 cooling fan maybe they include with so many heat pipes and fan because they (alienware) dont want the component suffering from thermal throttling
Darrel Und Yes, and they want to keep the card as cool as possible all the time.
do you have any cheaper suggestion for my alienware 18 for gpu upgrading thankyou
I did check your site.....it cost like a new laptop
We have just what you saw on our website...Thanks
Can I upgrade 860m maxwell ddr5 2gb to 880m?
so after installing the new cards do i need to do anything in bios?
***** Yes, use BIOS A10, and drivers 347.09. If you need assistance after your purchase please contact support@eurocom.com
hey there, i have a question where do you hook up your Anti Static Wrist Strap onto ?
thanks
+Nick Daemers We connect it to a ground. Here is some info for you: www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/14633/How+do+I+ground+my+ESD+mat+to+avoid+shocking+computers
Thank you so much :)
M15X R1 / M17X R1 - which cards are supported, like 860 / 880 ?
Check out our Alienware upgrade page! www.eurocom.com/ec/alienware()upgrade
Do you do a 980m sli kit for this model? I've been on the site and there all these r2 and r3 but I'm not sure what mine is but it looks exactly like that, thanks
We are currently testing and verifying the 980M in the Alienware 18. Dual 880Ms will provide some serious graphics performance for Alienware 18 users.
EurocomTechnology yeah I have the dual 880M gpus, but I'm just looking to go a little bit further with my performance, plus the temps can get way too high due to the poor optimisation of the 880m
Benjamin Lee We are currently doing a great deal of testing on the Alienware 18 in this video and will report back as soon as we can.
Have you done testing yet with 980m's in SLI?
Van Arpornrat We have been doing testing but have not verified this upgrade at this point.
having to remove the screen is so dumb , i dont know why dell has to make it so difficult, at least is not as hard as changing gpus on the m18x r2 ... now that is a pain in the ass to upgrade
+Eloy Hurtado Bermudez Yeah, this wasn't the easiest procedure.
Totally agree. This looks like a hell of a hassle to just repaste or upgrade gpu+repaste. I really thought it would be extremely easy to upgrade and stuff. Apparently i was dead wrong. 😢 Is it really neccessary to remove the screen? Can't it be done without removing the screen?
How do you get the cover to pop off. Mine is sitting super snug.
Trevor Stanfield Ensure all screws are removed and it should pop off quite easily.
Is it possible to upgrade from SLI GPUs to one single GPU (I have alienware 18 as well), so my empty card slot will be filled with only heatsink?
+TrooperUltimate Yes you can remove a video card. I would recommend removing the heatsink as well. Here are your options: www.eurocom.com/ec/upgrade(2,266,0)ec
Can I installing old video card on slot 2 and new video on slot 1? And how it will work?
Konstantin Tokarev No you need to use the same card in both slots for SLI to function.
hi , im going to upgrade my alienware m17x r4 to 980m gpu .. have you guys tried doing this on windows 10? what if i downloaded and install driver from nvidia website instead of moded drivers?
its no difference...
wooow nice man !!
Can you please do one of these for the 980ms for this laptop?
+Ryan Kelsey Its the same process, just ensure the thermal pads are aligned properly.
Hey Friend i did all on this video and it worked!
But i cant install the card... It says "there is no compatible driver to install"
Some people are saying that i have to use "inf mods" to force the instalation
I got an Alienware M18 r2 Windows 8.1
Could you help me? i tried with your driver from eurocom site but still unable to install...
If you purchased the card from Eurocom then our techs can help you. Please fill in a support request at the following link...

I have same base model that already came with dual 880M deployed. Can you forward the link for purchase parts of dual 980 sLI...it need some life expansion for 4K gaming as it still has a decent 4th gen i7 processor 4910 MQ. many thanks...after seeing the video... going to DELL/AW tech support department to confirm this was not wise.
www.eurocom.com/ec/upgrade(2,266,0)ec ...thanks let me know if this will suffice.
That link will suffice. Choose whichever you like! Let me know if you need anything or have any questions.
can you upgrade just one of the graphic cards?
Yes. Here are your options: www.eurocom.com/ec/upgrade(2,266,0)ec
a bit of question , is this alienware 18 compatible with liquid cooling like from asetek
Darrel Und I would not suggest using Liquid Cooling in this laptop or modifying the existing heatsink.
Asetek never came out with the liquid cooling it was only a concept so no you can't
+David wieczkowski Thanks!
+EurocomTechnology okay 👌👌
are you selling the motherboard for this? If so share links please(redirect to Amazon or anything would help)
No...Just GPU`s Sorry
I have an Alienware 18 and I have the GTX 765M. Can I upgrade it? I been thinking of getting the 980M
+KylieStocksOfficial Yes you can! Your options are here: www.eurocom.com/ec/upgrade(1,266,0)ec
EurocomTechnology Thank you so much!
KylieStocksOfficial Good luck!
I have an Alienware 18 R3. I am planning on putting in two nvidia gtx 880m GPU's.
On the page providing the drivers ( downloads.eurocom.com/support/drivers/upgradeyourlaptop/Alienware/ ), which zip folder do I need to download?
Try the (downloads.eurocom.com/support/drivers/upgradeyourlaptop/Alienware/ 18_880M.zip)
What will happen if you don't have ESD Protection?
You risk possible static discharge on sensitive parts on the motherboard possibly killing your mother bored
@@Dirty_Bear22 my m18x laptop was on and then screen turn black with lines and turn off ? Can't turn on now idk why
Quick question, this is a AW M18X R3 right?
***** Yes.
+EurocomTechnology does this work the same for the 980ms?
+Void of Space and Time We may or may not be about to post a video about that! You can get your 980ms here: www.eurocom.com/ec/upgrade(1,266,0)ec
EurocomTechnology Ok, thanks. It would be great if you could do a video!
Void of Space and Time It is the same hardware performance as the 880M video but the drivers and BIOS process is a bit different.
Hello I have a question I have an Alienware 18 with amd r9 m290x crossfire
can I upgrade to gtx 980m sli ?
and where do you live that you will change my gpu's ?
We are in Canada. The Alienware 18x R2 and R3 can be upgraded, the R1 cannot. Check to see which one you have first.
EurocomTechnology thanks for your reply apreciate It is very far away I live in Belgium but I will come in Canada for my work so I will wait 2 years and I will be there for the laptop I have the r3 viking.
But can it run Minecraft!!
No but seriously I'd like to know how many fps you get at default settings
Can I play PUBG with GTX 880M ??

Both the m18x R1 & R2 can be upgraded to the GTX880M
The best for the M18x R1 is the GTX 880m
Hi, does this graphics card work on a Alienware 18xR2?
Yes, the 880M is supported in the 18xr2 as well. To view all of our supported upgrades for the 18xr2, check here: www.eurocom.com/ec/upgrade(2,265,0)ec

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M
Hey would that work if I have Alienware 17 (R5) with 880M or if I upgrade it to 980M SLI?
Apoorva Singh 980M SLI in the 17 (r5) doesn't perform very well. We are still working on getting the performance up to par.
Alright what if I want 880M SLI in 17 (r5) will it perform good there?
Apoorva Singh Sorry, I screwed up. The 17 r5 does support 980M graphics but only one graphics card. You can order the card here: www.eurocom.com/ec/upgrade(1,263,0)ec and watch the upgrades here: www.eurocom.com/ec/videos(263)ec
Thank you that was most helpful.

terryss95 I am not familiar with that system. At first glance I do not think so.
Understood, thanks for the help.
What is esd protection so and what is esd
I believe it is electro static discharge, basically any static built up on the human body can destroy the components, the strap on his wrist keeps him grounded and removes and built up static to keep the components safe
Benjamin Lee Beautiful response! I usually just copy and paste from wiki haha. Thanks!
thanks for the info guys im only in 7th grade trying to upgrade my alienware thanks for the info

Is it possible to upgrade CPU on alienware?
+sandro sidava Yes, most Alienware laptops have socket based CPUs that can be upgraded.
+EurocomTechnology so can i just go to store and tell them to upgrade my CPU and graphic card and they will do that without any problems?
sandro sidava You would have to ask the store that question. If you send it to us we can! : )
