    These tutorials are really cool! Just a note on the tuning.
    +5 is a fourth above, and -7 is a fifth below, so from the lowest note (VCO2) you're playing a fifth (VPN at +7) and an octave (VCO1 at +12 total from VCO2).

    Nice video! I never thought to use "mono" in the "chord" voice mode. It's great for keeping everything monophonic without stacking all 4 voices per note! Thanks again :)

    This has been a real good tutorial, I actually understand a lot more and you seem to explain all the finer details more accurately without beating around the bush or assuming we already know what it would do. Really appreciate this, was a little lost until I found this, this was fun to watch and play along with and the sounds were great to listen to and create. Cheers heaps!

    This is an amazing tutorial, I feel like I get my minilogue XD 5x better than I did before, thanks! Not to be that guy, but one thing, when you tune the oscillator 500 cents up, it's a fourth up, and 700 cents down is a fifth below. Which is actually the same note an octave apart, so you can save yourself some trouble and just change the octave of the oscillator.

    Here’s a great mod tip - not only aesthetically pleasing but functional, black switch caps on the “screwy” switches. Not only does it feel and look better, but creates less horizontal space movement making it more stable and over time less wear and tear on the switches connection under the hood. Pretty cheap at ace hardware. Black color(color coded sizes) is the size that fits perfectly.

    Had my eye on this for so long. Using it for home production. Im aiming to get my low tones like Bass and textures from this, alongside chords and sounds that will compliment the song (usually guitar heavy but a vibe that sits next to 6lack, Russ and Tom Misch) would i be better to invest in some great plug ins and a great midi controller or this is the portal to my adventure? any help much appreciated

    • @MythMakerMusik
      @MythMakerMusik  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That depends on your workflow:
      1. Reasons to get it:
      If you have an audio interface with enough inputs and a place in your production room where you can permanently leave the synth plugged in and ready to go, that'll make it easier to use. Constantly setting up and breaking down pieces of gear is a real drag and will discourage you from using it regularly.
      If you have an infatuation with true analog gear and just don't want to use software synths for whatever reason, then of course this synth is a great choice. Sometimes analog circuitry just feels alive and magical.
      It's excellent for those "bread and butter" synth sounds. Simple pads and ambience, thick and lovely bass, nice rich plucks and chords, simple but full leads, great chord stabs. But it doesn't do very much beyond that. The simplicity and limitations of its sound design capabilities are compensated by its incredible sound and tone.
      You can download custom third party effects right onto the synth. People have been making lots of cool effects for it.
      It can be used as a MIDI controller.
      It's super easy to learn about synthesis with this. It's great for a beginner or someone of any level of synth mastery.
      It's fun to get your hands on actual hardware.
      You can run it through your effects pedals and have a whole bunch of knobs to tweak and get lost in soundscaping.
      2. Reasons NOT to get it:
      It's somewhat simplistic and its sound design capabilities are not extremely varied. It only has one LFO with one destination. Its filter envelope is simplified (instead of ADSR, it's just AD). And it has no assignable auxiliary envelope. A software synth usually has many modulation sources and destinations allowing for a high level of versatility in sound design. (However, this simplicity might appeal to you. It reminds me of the simplicity of old school synths like the Juno)
      Software synths are much cheaper and many of them sound just as good.
      It's generally easier and faster to work "in the box" with just software. Fewer cables, fewer steps between composing and hearing the finished product, and less clutter in your room.
      The onboard effects aren't that great. They get the job done in a pinch, but I wouldn't use them in a professional project. Some third party effects you can get are amazing but cost money.
      3.Things to keep in mind:
      It has slim keys. Some people like them, some hate them.
      Do you like to primarily work with MIDI sequences or recorded audio tracks? With a hardware synth, you can record it live just by playing it straight into an armed track like you would a guitar, or you can create and send a MIDI sequence from your DAW out to the synth over USB or a MIDI cable and then record it to an audio track later after you've got the sequence perfect. A software synth is basically the same, but you don't necessarily ever have to record the software synth to an audio track. Most DAWs will simply bounce the MIDI lane to audio when you export the song. With a hardware synth, you have to record it to an audio track before exporting. Some people prefer one workflow over the other.
      Check out Arturia Pigments. This is my favorite software synth. It has a few different sound engines to choose from including a virtual analog engine that honestly sounds very analog. It has beautiful tones for everything from bass to leads and whatever else in between. It's easy to use but has a great deal of depth for sound design. You can be as simple or as complex as you want without having to have a doctorate in synthology.
      In my opinion, it's easier to use software synths. They are less of a hassle. But the Minilogue XD will definitely achieve the tones and vibes you want (based on those artists you mentioned).
      When I got into electronic music, I started with just software for a few years and it was very easy and accessible. But being an old school musician, (I play bass in a few bands) I had to get some hardware at some point and fell in love with analog synths. Now I use both software and hardware depending on my mood. Be careful getting into hardware. I spent years buying and selling all sorts of synths. It became an addiction and I was never satisfied with my set up. I've wasted boat loads of money and it took me about 6 years to shrink my studio down to just a few synths that are unique and inspiring and stop buying new ones. So just be aware that buying a hardware synth might be a gateway drug to years of hardware addiction that is very unproductive and wasteful. People who only work "in the box" usually don't suffer from this kind of addiction, although some of them will become addicted to software plug-ins and spend lots of money on those. So I guess you gotta be careful either way hahah. Good luck!

    hey there Myth Maker. I have a question regarding the Bodzin Bass Lead sound. If you use this in a track, would there be room for another regular bass, or does this sound replace the whole bass? wonder what you're thinking. thanks for the vid! oh and by the way the subsequent 37 sub osc is a square.

    • @MythMakerMusik
      @MythMakerMusik  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually I made a live techno jam once where I had this bass patch and another more droning bass patch. I panned one slightly left and the other slightly right. I also filtered out the low frequencies of this Bodzin style patch up to about 110Hz and it didn't conflict at all. The track sounded pretty nice and round. I think if the droning bass played more notes, it probably would have conflicted, but the drone was easy to control and distinguish from the other patch.
      Also, thanks for letting me know the sub37 has a square sub. I didn't realize that.

    • @TheRobinVisscher
      @TheRobinVisscher 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MythMakerMusik cool, thanks. Good ideas. Would think a lot of the body of the bass would disappear when filtered out to 110hz but maybe not so much. I ll go try some stuff out :) oh and btw i think bodzin sometimes solves this by relying more on low toms.

    Hard to understand, for a total beginner, and they say this is one of the first syths you should get.

    • @MythMakerMusik
      @MythMakerMusik  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sound synthesis can definitely be complicated. It took me about a year to really wrap my head around it. However, I do agree that this synth is excellent for beginners. It has all of the basic features that are necessary to learn, and they are laid out on a relatively simple control interface compared to other synths:
      - Oscillators with variable waveforms and tuning
      - Low Pass Filter w/ key tracking
      - Amp Envelope
      - Filter Envelope
      - An LFO
      - Some Effects to sweeten the final sound
      If you can learn how to use these features, you will have learned the foundation of synth sound design. Everything else will be easier to learn down the road.
      You just have to start playing notes and turning knobs! Listen for what happens. This is 80% of learning sound design. 😁

      It may have something to do with the parameter display setting. If you go into the Global Settings, click the 6th lit up button, it should say "Parameter Display," set it to "All" and you should be able to see lots of new info on screen.
