IMO, Al is one of the finest guitarists on this planet! I never can understand the "thumb down" rating. If you don't like it, don't listen. But, if you play the guitar at ANY level, you must appreciate his awesome talent! Great job!

It will because he isn't actually giving any lessons he's just showing off his skills which only adds to frustrate a player new to this style and tuning. I would of liked to have seen how to play the shady grove song in DADGAD but could not even see the chords he was holding down, not that I would recognise them anyway. Like you say great guitar player but on here people are looking for tuition.

Song at tne end is called Craggy Pinnacle - it's an old banjo tune. Sounds a bit like Shady Grove, but it's not the same thing.

Al Pettaway is a great musician. Not a show off. You can hear him on some of Ken Burns documentaries. I think the one about the National Parks.

"Craggy Pinnacle" is the tune name. Named after a hiking trail near Asheville NC I think. As to m Music style - Al calls it Appalachian in his video. I hear Celtic influences, which would make sense due to the early settlers in some of the mountain areas.

I personally wouldn’t call it app style because a lot of people didn’t have formal lessons back in the early 1900s so they had to figure out how to play so I assume they had many styles. In my mind calling it appalachian sytle guitar is like calling roundpeak style banjo the only way the mountain people played banjo. No hate tho.

This seems more like a show-off video than an instructional video.

All Homespun videos are. They spend more time showing off than they do teaching, and they never give you any theoretical foundation to build from.
