When it comes to the wing you purchased, I'm confident that it didn't have a clear coat on it. The shine you observed is likely a result of the epoxy used in the wet lay process, rather than an actual clear coat. In my experience, when I obtain carbon fiber parts from a company, I always engage in a wet sanding process using 600 grit sandpaper. Following this, I meticulously apply automotive clear coat to ensure a flawless and durable finish. This approach has consistently proven effective in addressing the lack of clear coat and enhancing the overall quality of the carbon fiber parts.
wow this is incredible! I have a carbon fiber skateboard that I gauged with a scraping tool trying to get sticky silicone stuff that the last owner sprayed on it, will this method work for repairing the gauges and nicks in the gloss coating? What products did you use for $10?
Hi, bought it from Grainger, outdoor "heavy duty" clear coat. Make sure you give it a good sanding with different grits. Higher the grit the finer it gets.

For the new clear coat to grab on to the surface.
