this song taught me more about what actually is going on in the barbershop competition theyre in than I've gleaned in like the dozens of videos ive watched from this channel over the last couple years. thanks, NFF!!!!!!
Okay. I only recently discovered this group. And now more of their content is being put out and I am ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED. Please please please someone update me with what they scored!
This is my ALL ROUND fav of theirs - hands down. I love the sound arrangement, the humour AND how cleverly they've worked these elements to harmonise the other (see what I did there??)
watching this for the five hundredth time. ryan takes out a handkerchief after being occasionally hungry at 2:05 and dabs at the corners of his mouth with it. absolutely priceless
These guys are getting better each year. Their songs, their singing and their humour. I dont want them to win because they come up with very cleverly written stuff. The lyrics (mostly, except this one) scan beautifully as if what they are singing was the original lyric! They are working harder than most other quartets (by choice), they mostly sing as well as any of the top 5 quartets so thats cool. However the comedic element - timing & sarcasm is tricky and very hard to do. Added and appropriate movement ALL MUCH more than any other 'stand and deliver' quartet is offering. Some of it might be a bit risque for a number of people but its all mostly in good fun. So, by my estimation they are working 25% (Jim's numbers) harder than most. I give them kudos for this. Stylistically its not mainstream contest so it will take a while for the system to come around. One fine day these guys will win and me thinks it will be one of the most popular wins of this century! I hope they dont win for a while because I am absolutely loving almost (didnt like arr. of never gonna give you up this year) everything they do. Keep it up lads. Fabulous effort, energy and execution.
@@Loweene_Ancalimonfor me it wasnt harmonicaly very interesting, the arrangement just didn't flow as well as all their other stuff. I loved the original (child of 80's music). It could be a function of the original song and its probably just a personal thing :)

These guys are amazing. They have fantastic voices, humor is A+, and they literally do. not. care. They are here to have fun. And I am livinggg for it!!
I'd say Fred and Newfangled Four are two different kinds of comedy. I don't think they're really comparable. You can compare NFF to groups like Shoptimus Prime. And in that case, yes, Newfangled Four is the best. But in terms of tone and music, Fred beats Newfangled Four (but, I do know NFF will win some day, so don't you worry about that).
I find it hillarious and incredibly sad that one of they're best perfomances only happened when they placed 11th, and even after that they're done the injustice of being placed 6th. Pure talent!
Dawg notice how well they blend even though they clearly seem out of breath, also love the bit of them adding in the grading criteria for barbershop singing😭
Yo new fangled four idk if you ever rewatch these videos on this channel and read the comments but if you do you guys are legit the best and don’t stop being yourselves. The most entertaining group by far
See, if you're a purist, you can nit pick their performance. But for us rubes in the cheap seats, these guys are AWESOME!! They are the barbershop version of the Canadian Brass, Victor Borge, or the Harlem Globetrotters. I wouldn't pay money for a 2 hour show of strictly barbershop. Some folks would. But I would *happily pay money for these guys, knowing there would be great music, jokes, and camaraderie. I would NOT be going home thinking about missed pickups, or that dissonance that didn't resolve. I would go home thinking I had a great time, and marveling at the sheer talent these guys have. I'm musically ignorant, you say? Meh. Probably. I play three instruments, and am learning a fourth. I've played in the orchestra, and the marching band. I've sung with choirs, done a little tiny bit of madrigal group singing, and taught music to little peoples. I can't read Alto clef. So yes, I'm not a musician. But I know what I like. And I love them! ❤
They might not be the judges favourite but they are easily the internet’s favourite. The view numbers of these guys compared to every other group proves it.

this song taught me more about what actually is going on in the barbershop competition theyre in than I've gleaned in like the dozens of videos ive watched from this channel over the last couple years. thanks, NFF!!!!!!
Okay. I only recently discovered this group. And now more of their content is being put out and I am ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED. Please please please someone update me with what they scored!
They got 6th place
Dam.
Just high enough to get really annoyed.
@@spencerheath1419 again?! noooo, just let them in the 5 they've earned it
Al least they made the 10
Their score finally broke the top 10 in recent years. Now they are struggling to get into top 5 and get a medal.
Joey went offfff on this chart
The Music section (6:13 - 6:31) KILLED me. I am rolling on the floor 😂
SAME! That tenor could totally be a fantastic villain even with a tenor voice haha
Honestly, this is my favorite sounding arrangement of theirs. Especially the intro was just beautiful to listen to.
I'm curious, why did you not like it ?
@@Loweene_Ancalimonfor me it wasnt harmonicaly very interesting, the arrangement just didn't flow as well as all their other stuff. I loved the original (child of 80's music). It could be a function of the original song and its probably just a personal thing :)
I hope the judges just secretly want to see them perform every year and that’s why they haven’t won
If you win, are you not allowed to compete again?
@@theholidaylady1 Yeah a quartet can only win once as a group, but if 2 members of one group join another quartet they could compete again
@@clareflattery8720 Thank you. So it's not like the Grand Masters fiddle championship where one may win several years in a row. Interesting. Thanks.
If the song and arrangement as performed lacks a sensitive handling of musical elements, such as melody, harmony, and embellishments indicative of the barbershop style, which can briefly be defined as a style of unaccompanied vocal music, characterized by consonant four-part chords for every melody note in a primarily homophonic texture, then the music score goes down in the most delightful way.
for every melody *NOT* in a primarily homo-*rhythmic* texture
Derron Mendel They took this from the wikipedia definition, which I copied
@@patrickmeny1298 My bad, you're right
T
They are so salty and sassy, I love them
Su well it IS called SALT Lake City...
@@saraalhashimi2650 You're right you're right 😂
Hands down. The best comedic barbershop quartet out there.
Knowing they're splitting up now, I can't help but feel this song was made as a farewell to traditional barbershop competitions. They did good
These guys are amazing. They have fantastic voices, humor is A+, and they literally do. not. care. They are here to have fun. And I am livinggg for it!!
This is officially my favorite barbershop quartet!🤩🤩🤩🤩
Also is no one gonna talk about how much Joey has grown! I’m so proud of him! He sounds amazing when he says “opportunities abound”!
Best comedy quartet ever. This beats Fred XD
I literally haven't stopped laughing ;D
I'd say Fred and Newfangled Four are two different kinds of comedy. I don't think they're really comparable. You can compare NFF to groups like Shoptimus Prime. And in that case, yes, Newfangled Four is the best. But in terms of tone and music, Fred beats Newfangled Four (but, I do know NFF will win some day, so don't you worry about that).
Superb. The comedy is so funny it almost distracts one from realizing just how talented they are at harmony. That act took a lot of work. Well done.
We love tritones between the tenor and bari 2:42
I can't like cause it's at 69 :(
Like! (not likibg because it's at 69)
Now I have brought it up to 96, tritone sounded clean as hell, they're amazing
GIVE THEM AN AWARD ALREADY!!!
No-one gets one for just keep asking.
NF4 is always, I mean *ALWAYS* a delight to watch
This video took me eight minutes longer than the time of the video because I kept rewatching the part without context.
I have a newfound appreciation of barbershop harmony.
Instantly among my favorite barbershop songs ever

"Do the blow thing into the mouth part"

😂😂
I find it hillarious and incredibly sad that one of they're best perfomances only happened when they placed 11th, and even after that they're done the injustice of being placed 6th. Pure talent!
What was it with the 2019 convention? This has GOT to be my favorite video to date.
Dawg notice how well they blend even though they clearly seem out of breath, also love the bit of them adding in the grading criteria for barbershop singing😭
I miss quartets. I sang soprano in a quartet during junior high and high school. It was so much fun. These guys are incredible. LOVE the music!
A comic opera barbershop mashup is just what I needed. Thank you. 👏🏼😂👏🏼
Hello
How are you doing today?
Yo new fangled four idk if you ever rewatch these videos on this channel and read the comments but if you do you guys are legit the best and don’t stop being yourselves. The most entertaining group by far
Fantastic arrangement from David Zimmerman! Tons of fun to watch!
Jackson's expression is always pure gold XD
If amyone ever dislike this video, your music score goes down.
Who needs the judges when TH-cam LOVES you!
I ask again: is there ANYTHING Joey can’t do? Since apparently he’s also the Queen of Night in the Magic Flute.
Newfangled Four are incredible, I absolutely love the atmosphere they create at these events!
This with recent news, hits really different. Best of luck to everyone.
Wait what happened to them
@@carjis Ryan left Newfangled Four :(
@@just_gill6113 really?! I looked at their website yesterdat and on there ryan is still listed under their team.
these dudes are so under appreciated in the competitions like dude they deserve first place
They might not be the judges favourite but they are easily the internet’s favourite. The view numbers of these guys compared to every other group proves it.
"no the judges are just drooling"
Wow, absolutely savage no wonder they didn't get first for this masterpiece. They hurt the judges feelings.
Are there actually people who don't think Jackson is a good lead? Is this a real thing?
Probably, but they're missing half a brain and a music score (of both kinds).
Welcome to the internet! Where everyone thinks they're better than you at everything!
It's at least part of their running gags.
It's a gag, just like in Jackson (Gaston Parody)
@@inverse2000 It doesn't just need to be a gag. Even if you're the best at something in the world, believing yourself to be bad at it can help you stay grounded with a healthy sense of humility.
This piece is excellent, and my personal favorite among their performances. Sadly, it was also among their last, though nobody knew it at the time.
Sniff. Can you say RIP when a band disbands?
WOW! Hilarious act and incredible harmonies!

@@spaceguy5547 "if you don't sing in exactly the barbershop style we like, your music score goes down" essentially
Not only beautiful perfect harmony but geniuses!!! Got to love em
I so miss you guys, that was brilliant.
These Newfangled Four really have that element of fun
Wow! As an old Adeline quartet lead in several international competitions, I wish I could shake your hands and say “BRAVO”! You should have gold on right now! (But they really make you work for it , don’t they!). Currently I have spent 24 hrs. Binge watching you! Love everything you do, and great stage presence! Keep up the good work!
They’re no longer competing, unfortunately :( but the group does have a TH-cam channel with a new baritone!
These guys are spectacular. Fun, energetic, entertaining. They make Barbershop fresh. Really hope they go for as long as possible.
I don't even know how those guys came up in my feed - never in my life looked up barbershop quartets. But man, am I happy they did - until I saw them, I had no clue I was a major fan. Totally loving their vibe! Wish they'd tour in Europe too.
So entertaining, and a glorious blend of voices.
Well! That was the first time I enjoyed this style of singing!!!
I am sitting in my room alone applauding the screen giving it a standing ovation. This is true entertainment right here!
I love that you look at all the different videos on this page and there like 80 views, 200 views then you look at the NFF videos and they are all in their thousands!!
I needed a judge cam for this so bad. XD Oh my god the salt. Golden comedy right there.
Why HAVEN'T we ever seen these guys on PBS at the VERY LEAST. THEY'RE UNBELIEVABLY FUNNY BESIDES BEING FABULOUSLY TALENTED.
These guys are like a breath of fresh air!
New to this kind of stuff, but if I didn't see these guys on TH-cam first, I would have totally missed out on the rest of what barbershop is. These guys should be official ambassadors and advocates for their craft.
the fucking opening, i can't with this. whoever edits these videos is fucking fantastic for including the bits before they actually sing, especially on songs like this
They are MARVELLOUS. So very talented barbershop harmony singers and FUN and FUNNY at times, too.
Hello Janet
How are you doing today?
These guys have honest to god fueled my love for barbershop. There's even a group near me I want to join!
They're dorks
I love it
You guys are great. Thanks for cheering me up.
I particularly appreciate clever and witty wordplay, especially when coupled with excellent vocal talent. Bravo, gents.
Beautiful! Wonderfully done!
I just love the harmonies of a barber shop quartet. They sound pretty good to me, and I grew up in a classically trained piano home.
I'm currently getting my masters in musicology and I am a composer and musician (jazz, classical, EMDM)
I agree with you 100% there were a couple of notes that were a little out of pitch but they were pretty slight.
Sorry, your home was a classically trained piano?
I don’t always choose to listen to barbershop quartets, but when I do, it’s always the newfangled four!, 🎶😊🎶
Hello Cynthia
How are you doing today?
this guys are truly phenomenal!! this video already had me in stitches by the time the shy Ryan bit began 😆😆
I've never watched any barbershop quartet on TH-cam before. But I will now! These guys are fantastic!
Hello Denise
How are you doing today?
These guys be throwin shade like it's confetti! 🤣
It makes me so happy to know this was arranged by David Zimmerman 😂
NF4 might not of gotten gold this year, but they got gold in our hearts ❤️
The Newfangled Four is the only reason why I ever listen to Barbershop quartets 😁😁😁😁
"The judges are salivating right now, " "No, they're just drooling' HAHAHA
These guys are amazing! Keep up the good work!
