people always comment on the bass or tenor in a barbershop group, or indeed the lead. Baritones get so little praise - but just listen to the voice of the baritone in this group, especially at 2:04 and 2:33! Ridiculously pleasant and tuneful.
Baritone does indeed have the unpleasent job of completing the vocal spectrum - as a high baritone I can feel the "pain". On the other hand this makes the inside joke "The melody I haven't learned, I only know the Baritone." just all the more hilarious to me. Thankfully us Baritones get some solo parts once in a while so we can shine a bit aswell. ;)
It's actually not difficult for the Bari to show up well compared to the lead in this group. I'm pretty sure the lead is the reason they've never medaled: *way* too much vibrato for BBS style, which should have very little or no vibrato at all. The way it interacts with BBS close harmony makes the whole group sound nervous, like they've got a bad case of stage fright, even though their arrangements and staging are spot-on.😔

This was the very first barbershop video I ever watched. Now, only three years later, I’m in the BinG! Youth Chorus and multiple quartets, we’ve sung the mic warmer at two conventions, and just last weekend, we competed for the first time. It’s awesome looking back at this and seeing how far I’ve come. Barbershop has changed my life!
Dang this is amazing. Those subharmonics in the drop are awesome lol. And funny, tight harmonies, entertaining, just great. Nice arrangement and the tag (especially Jackson's note at 3:35 is just so good) is fantastic
Actually now that you point it out, yeah that's crazy impressive. Going straight from atonal shouting into _perfect_ four-part harmony without missing a beat is some absolutely wicled talent. I have perfect pitch and have been studying music for years, and even I don't think I could do that.
Just tracing the lineage. FRED, Main Street, NF4. I'm sure there were quartets before DERF as well. And as good as Main Street is, a direct comparison is a true compliment.
Hate to burst your bubble, but they actually are disbanding. They would've disbanded anyway whether they won or not, so let's just be glad they can leave with gold on their necks
Based on their speech after they won, it sounds like they'll still be available for shows and such. I'm guessing they won't be anywhere near as active as Vocal Spectrum, Instant Classic, or Crossroads, but they'll be around.
- Gandhi is known as a mystic of sorts. - "His frame was rather frail" means he his fragile. - Halitosis means bad breath: "his breath was often stale" - Callused refers to rough and scarred skin generally on the feet or hands: "he walked barefoot..." and I think he says hardened bottoms (referring to the feet), but I fully understand what he at the end of that part. So he had super callused feet, he was a fragile mystic, and had terrible breath
I am obsessed by this performance! Crazy difficult, but NF4 made it look easy. I'm still astonished that they even TRIED this on the contest stage (even if it was as mic-testers). I don't think they'll have to worry about that in the future! Actually, I'm glad they have several years of performances that have been recorded, rather than pulling off a Dealer's Choice / Acoustix "one and done" trick. I will go back and watch their performances over and over, with great delight. GREAT JOB, GUYS!
Okay, that unison (with the tenor post) that they hit at 3:42 was super good, but is overlooked so easily, just noticed it this time and it sent an chill down my spine. Well freaking done!
From now on, whenever I feel depressed or I'm pissed off about something, this will be my go-to video! I honestly don't remember how I found it, but I think TH-cam suggested it to me for some weird reason. And for once I am thankful it did that, because this is spectacular! X'D
I recommend anyone who’s going through something rough to watch this. It’s destined to put a smile on that face of yours which the world needs to see ❤

- "His frame was rather frail" means he his fragile.
- Halitosis means bad breath: "his breath was often stale"
- Callused refers to rough and scarred skin generally on the feet or hands: "he walked barefoot..." and I think he says hardened bottoms (referring to the feet), but I fully understand what he at the end of that part.
So he had super callused feet, he was a fragile mystic, and had terrible breath
Oof
David V you shouldn't have explained...
Great job!
Jake's beard is annoyingly good.
This is one of my favorite videos on TH-cam. Never gets old
I am obsessed by this performance!
That clap was amazing
This made me smile so darn big.
When I say I’ve watched this hundreds of times, I mean I’ve watched this hundreds of times
Okay, that unison (with the tenor post) that they hit at 3:42 was super good, but is overlooked so easily, just noticed it this time and it sent an chill down my spine. Well freaking done!
Yes! I'm obsessed with that unison. Hits like an absolute truck, and followed by a Gm6 and that insanely satisying clap? Absolutely amazing.
nothing else better than the newfangled four
From now on, whenever I feel depressed or I'm pissed off about something, this will be my go-to video! I honestly don't remember how I found it, but I think TH-cam suggested it to me for some weird reason. And for once I am thankful it did that, because this is spectacular! X'D
That's their Spoonful of Sugar for me! I was in tears 🤣
I recommend anyone who’s going through something rough to watch this. It’s destined to put a smile on that face of yours which the world needs to see ❤
Already a classic!

I do like the ending with Jacksons body language the way he shifted to sing really added a great focus on his voice at the ending.

These guys are just fun. Excellent singers, but the fun is what makes it.
