Aesthetically i'm sure this area will look amazing once all the trees and grass take off. Still feels a bit funny looking back at this place after spending so much time there. We visit Run Ta Ek in an upcoming video so you can see where people are now living so stay tuned for that!

G'day Maddo - yeah was a bit grim. To be honest cause Kinal's family had been so connected to the villages and sights around the Angkor park it almost feels a bit flat visiting there now. Hope you are doing ok too mate. Will check in soon - Cheers!

That's crazy😢 I remember you talking saying that they were going to relocate. I didn't realize it would be that fast

Hey Aron, They didn't muck about. The program started last year and there are still some families scattered around the place. The new village is huge and hopefully everyone thrives out there - we check it out in our next video. Cheers mate!

It's really sad to see that vibrant little community just... gone. It's like they bulldozed everything that was left far enough back that it can't be seen from the road.

Hey hey! Yep agree - kind of has that 'that will do' vibe about the site clean up. The jungle will reclaim it all soon enough - it definitely will change the whole vibe of visiting that area.

G'day Marc & Kinal 😊, hope you are doing well , I don't pretend to understand what is truly behind all this , what I am aware of , after having visited Run Ta Ek , is there doesn't seem to have been much thought , planning , or care for the individuals involved with having to move , not unlike a lot of things I have observed here over the years , Cambodia shall always hold a special place in my heart , and it's because of the wonderful Khmer people I have been blessed to have met along the journey , but decisions like this one , simply leave me shaking my head in disbelief , and I can honestly sum up my reaction to having visited Run Ta Ek in one word , " CRIKEY " 🤣, one can only pray that things will improve for all those poor souls involved 🙏PS. I recently saw a post on FB of people out at Run Ta Ek protesting the lowering of their governmental monthly stipend , like I said , " CRIKEY " sums up the whole mess nicely ! 🤪

G'day Brian! Crikey Indeed! Agree, there are a lot of factors at play here, a lot to digest. I think time is the biggest factor here - if there is investment in the Run Ta Ek village and everyone is supported, then it may well be a positive outcome. However there is a ways to go yet.
We are going well here mate - missing everything and everyone in Siem Reap! Hope you are well too and are keeping all those other expats in line 😎 Cheers!!

Sad, wonder if the Local Gov thought move these folk on away from the tourist area, then along comes a Big Fancy Expensive Tourist Cafe of sorts owned by a Chinese conglomeration? Yes i'm being a cynic

G'day Steve - the whole area has been overhauled. A lot of the little stalls and restaurants have already been moved to a more central area away from the temples - still lots of locally owned stores which was good. There appears to be a big effort to spruce up the place, however at the cost of the way of life for the locals. Hopefully they all thrive out at the new village. Cheers mate!
