    I have been using Wenning warm up principles to work links in my lift outside Powerlifting.
    My competition lift : one arm dumbbell clean and Push press.
    My shoulders in comparison to triceps were below par so did a 4 × 25 rep triceps extensions ( facing machine and face away from machine) to pre fatigue them for the "press" part, adding rotator cuff work.
    Then I got into the seated dumbbell press for the actual workout.
    With time the shoulder could Face the heavy loads placed on it
    I can say the "Wenning warm up" should be renamed " Winning warm-ups"

    You mentioned in another video that this warm up also qualifies as progressive overload.I found that out after doing it 4 times so far.Muscles felt like jelly afterwards and my max strength was down by about 5% during the main sets I think thats normal until the conditioning gets established without fast twitch fatigue. I'll have to cut it down to 1 or 2 sets then build it to 3 and 4 gradually. I will still do the 4x25 as a shoirt recovery workout

  • @billf9526
    @billf9526 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    This is great, thank you for posting this Matt.
    It makes perfect sense, and I want to start giving this a try. Given all the warm-up work, do you have to adjust the "work" sets of whatever lift you're training that day?
    A number of years ago I was finding my tris were failing towards the end of my bench workouts. I increased the volume of my triceps work after the main bench sets (heavy dips, reverse band benching, etc). after a year or so of doing this, my tris stopped failing. This still seems to be working 15-20 years later.
    But your video has me thinking I'm doing things backwards and I should be doing the extra work before the main bench sets (if I'm understanding correctly) and lead to my question about adjusting work set weights.
    Would you think that this would be of greater benefit to older lifters, or would you make any adjustments for those pushing 50 rather than 25 or 30?
    Also, do you feel there would be any adjustments if switching from powerlifting training to strongman (i.e. even more prework volume)? I'm shooting for a first foray into a strongman contest by 2Q2020 and have three goals... be prepared, have fun and don't break anything.
    As always, thank you for all the information you provide and for all the help you offer us watching on TH-cam.
