  • A Lisfranc injury can occasionally be mistaken for an ankle sprain, therefore a proper diagnosis is important. Your Pensacola foot and ankle surgeon will ask you a series of questions about your injury and will give you an examination of your foot in order to determine how severe your injury is and come up with a diagnosis.
He may take x-rays or some other type of imaging study to get a full evaluation of the severity of your injury. Additional examinations might be needed while you are under anesthesia to evaluate a weakening of your joint and surrounding bones or fracture.

Just had this diagnosed in my left foot after an ER misdiagnosis. Surgery was four days ago with a screw between the 1st and 2nd. Doc said it will likely be four to five months of healing…

Thank you for one of the best Lisfranc videos on TH-cam. Injured mine and the ER I visited misdiagnosed it as a simple second metatarsal fracture probably because they did not perform any load bearing X-rays. Visited a good Ortho Surgeon and she found it right away with load bearing X-rays. 7 weeks in with zero weight on the foot and its starting to heal up. Definitely takes longer to heal than a metatarsal fracture.

Did you go through surgery or did you leave it to heal itself, in February 2019 I was playing soccer and another player crushed my foot as I was landing from a high jump, so you normally land on your toes then your mid foot then the heal, so as I touched down he crushed it his momentum and mine, I tore ligament and slight gap was formed between 1st and 2nd metatarsal, only seen under weight bearing xray. I was suggested surgery but since I didn't break any bone, I refused the surgery I'm healing now but when it is cold, it aches and when I stand the whole leg hurts, I'm not sure whether I made good decision or not but the idea of metal plates and screws in my mid foot was the main reason for my refusal of surgery, had I broken any bone, the surgent would've operated as it is the norm.

@Chris Farley June 2020 will be two years since the injury occurred. Looking back, I'd say it took a full year before I could walk long distances without residual pain. Recovery took much longer than expected. Never had any surgeries. I feel like I have residual arthritis in that foot now which comes and goes but for the most part its all behind me now other than the injured foot never feels quite as good as the other one. Just starting to deal with some knee issues on that same leg which may be a result of walking incorrectly for so long during my foot recovery period - don't know yet. Buying correct and comfortable shoes is more of a priority now more than ever. All in all - if you have a true Lisfranc injury prepare for the long haul with regards to full recovery but you will get there!

Me too facing the decision too lisfranc injury don't want surgery letting it heal itself ( saying as how surgery isn't any better sounds like bad reports about surgery too) . Been 3 weeks for me so far. I still can't walk. Have boot on. keeping it up. This is terrible 😞

That happened to me 20 years ago. Stepped on a stone walking for 18 days on all kinds of terrain in Egypt ruins.Right foot is taking too long to heal. At the time used an inflatable boot .
    Was bruising, swollen .
Now, 1st metatarsal leaning to the left and 2nd metatarsal also going to the left.
    Sharp pain even when resting.
Will check your website. Thank you!

So thankful the er Dr I went to referred me to an amazing dr/surgeon who was able to diagnose me. I'm still in pain cuz this shit hurts...cant imagine what would have happened if my ligament rupture wasn't seen/acknowledged. Honestly tho..

I have a lisfranc injury it wasn’t diagnosed until about 4 years after I did it because that was the first time we did a weighted x-ray this was back about 1992. At the time I was told it was sprained and then about 2 weeks later the doctor casted it because it was still pretty swollen. I have never had surgery on but the last time we did a CT scan he told me it would be 6 weeks of no weight and 6 weeks of a walking cast it doesn’t bother me constantly but does when I am on it a lot. I found you video when I was searching how to use KT tape for a lisfranc injury

I stepped in a pothole 3/17/18. A week later my foot gave out and down I went again. Went to an urgent care clinic and they did not see the Lisfranc. Said I had a sprained ankle. I kept telling them the top of my foot hurt but it was not heard. I worked for 6 weeks just putting up with the pain thinking it would get better. Finally asked a doctor if it should be feeling better by now. He pointed me to an Orthropedic doc and that is when I found out I had a Lisfrance. Finally has surgery in October. Now, over a year later, I am still dealing with my foot. Doing exercises and swimming but still dealing with some pain. This is NOT an easy injury to recover from.

Hallo I have Lisfranc injury in 2019 and misdiagnosis for 2 months . Today I’m after 3 surgery and had done foot reconstruction surgery.
My question is . If I have diagnosed in the early stage do my situation will be the same as now or much better.
Because in the two months time when the keep saying that I have soft tissue injury. I have broken ligaments, my bones detached and cartilage between bones disappeared

One note - 1:15 - It's interesting how we were designed..!! If an entity designed the foot they have no business being omnipotent.
Great vid and thanks a lot for taking the time to pass on this sage information. I just had a full rupture of the LisFranc on the weekend, this video reassured me of the way forward. Many Thanks.

I take it you're the guy that always looks for the opportunity to say these kinds of things. Like what in the world is the relevance of that comment? You were the disruptive kid in class, I take it

IWhile hiking i took bad fall when stepped in deep hole causing a severe hairline fracture to my right foot / ankle about 1-1/2 yrs ago. Incredibly painful. I was put in boot cast w crushes for well over 6 wks healing much slower than normal still having constant deep throbbing & weakness in ankle. my Othro dr reasoned was possibly due to early stages of osteoporosis & just did nothing. I was 45. Now yrs later. For past 6 mo out the blue, began have major swelling including my ankle, like 2x size, swollen toes w rather large knot on top of my foot .. but have no real pain. . In fact they feel kinda numb & cold. Do you think I had lisfranc fracture that he may missed?

i jumped for the ball and i guess the grass wasnt cut well because right when i jumped it felt like my right foot hyper extended , not even when i landed. Doc took x rays of my injured and normal foot and thank god it was a slight tear. Today has been 30 days, and im finally able to pretty much walk normal still with a slight pain, so at times i still wear the boot. im slowly working my way out of the boot. I wont be able to run for another 14 days i would say. But yes alot of rest, ice and heat. and alot alot of water. im so anxious to run i dream about it lol

Well I’m a brown skin girl I do not have any visible bruising or etc. I only have the pain and tenderness only to the middle of my foot.. I wrapped in the stretchy bandage but it’s giving me more pain but weird I can still wear shoes without bandage and no pain. Confused 🤷🏽‍♀️
