  • The talus is part of the ankle. The talus is a rather interesting bone in our body in the sense that it is 60% covered by articular cartilage. It is the most important part of the articulation of the ankle. It allows up and down movement of the ankle in coordinates with the tibia and the fibula. There are two types of lesions Osteochondral Lesions; one is contained and the other is uncontained.

How long should you put your ankle in a boot for at first to heal?

Thank you!! Thinking AVN? Or is that same as osteochondral defect?
(am age 63 female diagnosed with idiopathic AVN of Taylor dome, also caused stress fracture. Considering 3D Talus prosthetic replacement. 🤞🏻

Hi man, are you sure it is this injury? I am asking because i want to diagnose my cndition as well and i not sure if it's this. I had an ankle sprain, i did RICE in the first days and the ankle didn't look too bad, it really looked like something that would recover in 2 weeks.. However, even though i could soon walk, it's been more than a month and a half now since the sparin happened and i havent notice any recovery from the symptoms i have now for the last month, even though i mostly just rest my ankle. My symptoms are basically frequent ankle cracks, most of the times without pain, but sometimes with pain and temporary limited range of motion that fades away in the next few minutes. Then, what worries me the most is in the couple of times that i tried to run ( and i need to run to do my job), i felt a considerable discomfort that felt like i should stop running or it will get worse. And in the next few days after the run, i felt some tenderness and the cracks are more frequently the painful kind. I wanted to see a doctor to do some imaging but i will be moving to another town soon so not sure what to do. This might be also a minor injury on the peroneal tendon, idk

@@nunodfes2 I sprained my ankle when I rolled it slipping in some ice a back in December. I ended up tearing my deltoid ligament, and tearing my cartilage, (osteochondral lesion). I had two titanium screws and a titanium plate put in for the deltoid ligament injury, and then the surgery for the osteochondral lesion. The osteochondral lesion feels like a aching pain deep in the ankle at the curve where the leg connects to the foot, front side. Whats crazy is when I did injury myself, it did not look like a bad injury, just a little swelling, hardly any coloration or bruising. I didn't think it was a major injury. I could walk on it after two weeks it happened. I went to doctor, did 3 different xrays over a period of a month and a half, and it still wasn't seen on the xray. I was about to be sent back to work, I was still complaining of pain, so my doctor ordered a mri. Thats when they found everything that was torn. If you are still in any pain I would definitely go get it checked out. Don't put your confidence in a xray, mri will better tell the story. Right now I'm at 8 weeks after the surgery, doing physical therapy, and I can only put half my body wait on it. Ive never been better at driving a scooter around lol. The doctor told me that if we had not caught everything on mri, there was a good chance that I would have blown out my ankle at work. My advice is go get it checked out. Hopefully this happened at work and you are on workers comp? Hope u get to feeling better

@@nunodfes2 also, I didn't have any ankle cracks, BUT I did have about 3-4 bone chips removed that was from the bones rubbing together, where my cartilage tear was

@@187swisher thank you for the in depth reply. I think what i will do is wait until i move in beggining of april and claim that the injury got worse when i ran there so that i can get treatment and compensation there, because i didn't get the injury while i was working here... Anyways, update me on your situation in some weeks, i will update you too. Wish you a fast recovery

I have this in both ankles, doctor said it was caused from repeated injury through my 10 years of soccer. i was put into boots for both ankles to immobilize them. It did not work. The pain comes and goes but when it comes my ankle locks up and i cannot move it at all. ice and heat do not help. is there anything else I can try? I really don’t want surgery.

I just got surgery a week ago for this exact injury. I had been dealing with the pain for about 7-8 years. Tried doing physical therapy but it did not work. The only solution was to do surgery. I’m currently in a non-weight bearing cast and have to have it for another week. My advice, get the surgery if surgery is needed. I put it off for so long because I was nervous to get it but my doctor said it will fix things and I won’t be dealing with the pain on down the road.

I am currently dealing with this issue on my left ankle. I too am holding off the surgery. Someone recommended that I start applying Dr. Christopher’s Complete Tissue & Bone ointment and syrup. I heard comfrey or nettle tea helps as well so I will be trying those natural alternatives first.
