    I wish Vinny paid more attention when doing the 'Kokiri Forest -old-' part. The trees were chopped down and there was an ax sign all huge and hung up, and the moblins being there meant the place was probably occupied and being deforested under Ganon's control there. That's pretty messed up.

  • @ArcRay20
    @ArcRay20 3 ปีที่แล้ว +323

    Vinny makes the joke about the fairy breaking the boundaries and that would be weird. meanwhile Mario 64 allows you to get on the castle roof and see all the nothing behind the castle and through the game geometry. which makes me wonder if thats kind of a special reward in itself: "it will be a players first 3D experience, lets pull back the curtain a bit after they done everything." idk, it just got me thinking.

      I so badly want an Eartbound 64 leak. Mother 3's development is so mysterious and it's wild to me that there's a version of the game out there that's on a completely different console. I think the best take of OoT I've ever seen is from Running Shine, which I recommend anyone to watch since it's extremely entertaining. I'm going to steal a bit of it here.
      People really gas this game the hell up and it does it no favors since the early 3d has caused it to age worse than late 2d might have. It's not the next coming of christ, it's not going to file your taxes for you, It won't cure your polio, but holy hell it does a lot right and it did it out of the gate without any previous game for it to copy, in a pretty damn short time frame.
      I agree with Arin's take on Skyward Sword though. That game really is the 'trust fund kid' of zeldas.

    • @Darlos9D
      @Darlos9D 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      @@PrismTheKid yeah I kinda wish Arin had focused more on criticizing some later zeldas that maybe took some of the wrong lessons forward from Ocarina, as opposed to blaming Ocarina itself. I feel like there'd be more of an actual discussion there.
      I forget when he said it, but later on he said that he isn't sure how he feels about some of the points he made in that sequelitis, but he still feels like the humor is on point. And yeah, if you don't worry about some of the things he says in that video it IS funny as hell.

    • @MrFoxInc
      @MrFoxInc 3 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      To be fair, Arin had great points like "my object permanence has not yet kicked in so if a spike is out of my sight, that's bad game design" and "there are like, 5 instances in the game where you have to press C-Up to search for a switch to open a door, that's bad game design" or my absolute favorite "the game forces you to wait on everything and that's bad game design because I knowingly or unknowingly omit the fact that as you get better at the game and gain more items, you continually start to change the pace of battles, and enemies that scared you before are now obliterated with one smart shot and that is tangible growth that you feel as a player, which is something that I praised as GOOD game design in the Mega Man sequelitis but for some reason it's irrelevant here"
      Maybe funni TH-cam men who are (understandably) mostly concerned with making an entertaining video and who have never worked in game design before should not be an authority on game design

      @That_One_Xatu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I know it's not just a Nintendo problem regarding video game companies withholding beta/unreleased content from the public, but as usual; despite Nintendo's love for money, they decide not to make more money by giving fans stuff they'd absolutely pay for, like access to beta versions of their most beloved games. Instead, fans do it themselves for free, then Nintendo makes them play DMCA 2 (which doesn't actually have much effect, just makes it slightly harder to find online).
      The fact Star Fox 2 ever officially released still boggles my mind and makes me mildly hopeful for a future where Nintendo publicizes unreleased content and the development process of their games more, but I also feel like that was fluke and something like that will never happen again.

      this one or the Monster Party one (Which wouldn't of been necessary if that damn collector.. anyway)

    • @MediaMunkee
      @MediaMunkee 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@ollieguy6781 B3313 is poised in a unique situation to do something magical, and in certain cases it pulls it off with aplomb, in other cases it just devolves into eyerolling creepypasta shit. Here's the thing: Mario 64 is an _impressively_ ubiquitous game for its period. It was a lot of people's introduction to 3D gaming as a brand new concept, and the worlds are small enough and recognizable enough that there are a lot of us who have basically internalized almost every level layout. I could easily do an accurate 70-star run of the game in my _head._
      And now we're approaching that magical 30-year gap that makes it prime nostalgia bait material, and here comes B3313 as a mixture of actual beta content, creepypasta "every copy is personalized" nonsense, and a good deal of original content besides, which it crams together in impressively original ways, particularly in how you navigate the castle hub (or attempt to). There's a lot of weird liminal space stuff going on that's just there for sake of being there, and things like that "handless clock" texture that shows up over and over again throughout the castle are _fantastic_ because they're taken from the actual beta, they genuinely look kinda creepy, and they're just _there._
      B3313 doesn't need the creepypasta stuff to be creepy. All it needs is to be _slightly different_ from vanilla Mario 64 (and it's got that in spades already) and the unsettling vibe practically creates itself. Get rid of the jumpscare crap, get rid of the A-posing faceless Marios that kill you on contact, don't have Yoshi explicitly tell you not to go into the nightmare cave, don't give the Bob-ombs red eyes just because it makes them look creepier, _we don't need any of this_ for it to be an intriguing, confusing, nostalgic-yet-original experience.

      Its kind of odd to realize that the same games we cherish and love as kids were also cherished and loved even by murderers, and rulers of the world.

      @@KitsuneDzelda Guess when Nintendo and other game companies say they make games that anyone can enjoy they mean it to heart.
      As for Hitler gaming, I suppose if games where around his time he'd probably like strategy based games like: Command & Conquer, X-com or Fire Emblem. Or maybe he'd like games with a good art direction, that have visuals that could emulate the feeling of a painting or in a sorta similar vein maybe Cuphead since he liked Disney animations. As for A Link to the Past maybe, if he saw clearing the dungeons like conquering a piece of the map.
      I probably put too much thought into this, but as morbid as it sounds it was pretty fun diving into the mind of a madman to guess what his gaming preferences would be. Lol

    My thoughts after seeing some of the old concepts is that since they had the smaller moblins and peahats they could've been put in other areas of the game to have more enemy variety especially with the smaller (but shittier looking) stalfos knights. Hyrule field could've been had random enemies spawned in the field when you're adult link just to show how much of ganon's evil influence has actually changed the land. And while yeah the medallions and arrows are kind of busted, this wasn't considering magic as a factor when used. Like using medallions should cost a lot of magic especially the shadow (which would normally use all of it since it's nayru's love) and spirit medallion (Since even though it's one of the last ones you'd get it's still weird to go places you shouldn't normally even with barriers around to prevent going out of bounds.). Arrows costs should be based on whatever effect and power they could have on a target. I think if anyone decides to mod ocarina of time with stuff involving the space world demo these are probably things that should be considered when working on it.

    A few options Vinny doesn't explore that I was curious about were: using the white Light Medallion in an area without Cuccos and using the yellow Spirit Medallion on an arrow. I think maybe the Light spell hit a Cucco so it triggered an attack? Obviously when combo-ed with arrows it becomes the Light Arrow(s). My only thought with the "Spirit" (soul?) medallion, is that using it as a projectile allows you to swap bodies??...since you basically do that with Navi....or it's not so much a swap as a one-way possession. And maybe it just wouldnt work on bosses or in certain rooms?? Controlling enemies is a tall order for such a game, but obviously there's tons of puzzle applications.

    • @BaldorfBreakdowns
      @BaldorfBreakdowns 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The White medallion does a Sun's Song effect to enemies for a brief moment, and they are the original Light Arrows. I think the Yellow Medallion arrows make magic or fairies drop from certain enemies. Can't remember which.
