    I would do anything to be free of emetaphobia, it's always controlling my life to a degree and I have absolutely no idea where it started or what from. I've asked my parents if they have any idea and they say they cannot pin point a time or event. I've suffered for over 30 years im so tired now. Now I have a daughter who suffers with anxiety and her main symptom is nausea and sometimes vomiting which doesn't bother her she just has a normal dislike but no fear. It's the hardest thing being terrified of your child but acting like you're not so you can be the mother they need.

      Firstly well done for being brave for your daughter. We have met many people with this phobia who would abandon their child as they simply couldn’t cope. Honestly, no matter how many years you’ve suffered you absolutely CAN overcome this very challenging phobia. The longest duration of this phobia of someone we have cured is 70 years, and most recently at one of our workshops a lady called Nina had hers for 53 years, yet left our workshop emetophobia free. The start isn’t always necessary, but does make treatment quicker and easier. CBT can be an effective therapy, and we do have other films here on our channel that may help. We also address this phobia and our process in our book Conquering Anxiety and at our workshops.

      @@nikandevaspeakman I will check them all out! Probably won't be able to attend workshops ( if physically attended) as they seem to be far from me and due to a stroke I no longer drive. But I do have determination and the will to change, so I will be applying anything I learn from you guys through videos and books. Seems an impossible feat to me atm to be fear free on my own but I have the want and will to change and thats a good place to start. I love my daughter its just her and I so when she gets sick her needs HAVE to outweigh my urge to run and hide terrified. One day things will be different I always have hope ❤

      Hello, I suffer from the same and am now a mum and find it so difficult! How are you doing with your phobia? Any progress ? I don’t know where to begin. Like you i have no idea where this stems from xxx

      @@lisathompson3702 oh bless you it is so hard isn't it?
      no progress for me really, and unfortunately as my daughter now has chronic anxiety which we're in the middle of being treated, this means more triggered but hiding it me. It's very difficult because I don't know about you, but as a mum it makes me feel so guilty that I'm afraid. My daughter knows I have this phobia but she also knows that it does not and will not change the fact I'm there to comfort her as and when she needs. Quite honestly my nerves are absolutely shot and most nights now are spent me crying in secret. I'm trying to fit in positive affirmations and self soothing and rational thinking but nothing is working both because its so deep routed now AND my motherly demand is constant so I'm being confronted with my fear 24/7. All I have is prayer at the moment but I know its doable maybe not for me right now but some day. I wish I could give you tips, advice and comfort to take it all away but I cant. But I will say I know IT is something that CAN be changed and I send my love to you 🤗

    My sister always had emetophobia and always has panic attacks because of it and as a child I was fine and when I used to see her being afraid of throwing up.I then thought being sick is so bad and it gave me emtophobia cause she made it out to be so bad. I’m struggling so badly with it now and it really controls my everyday life, I would do anything to get rid of it

    My 15 year old son has emetephobia but is also a selective mute and can’t communicate with anyone outside the family so it’s difficult to get therapy and I am on my own without any support. He hasn’t left the house for 5 months 😞 I feel stuck.

      So sorry to hear that. Encourage him to watch some of our youtube films, but also we’ve just uploaded 3 short films about this on youtube which many have found helpful. We also have a blog on our website www.speakman.tv and cover it in our book Conquering Anxiety too. Finally Young Minds charity may be able to offer help and support too.

    watching your videos is making me want to cry 😭😭 i’m struggling so bad with emetophobia. it controls my life more than anything in the world. not only does it affect my day to day life but it’s the very reason why i can’t leave my own home. my own home 😭 I stopped being able to go out aged 14. I’m 18 next month. I’ve lost my life to this phobia and i feel like i can never ever get over this. every single thing makes me so anxious i can’t even look at a car or leaving home or being with anyone without crippling anxiety. i cant even explain how much i can’t do this anymore. I’m restarting EMDR next week. but i’m losing hope after struggling my whole life. I know my story is inspirational and i want to share my story so bad. but i need to get better first. i’ve lost so much just because of this stupid phobia 😖 i haven’t been to school since i was 14, i’ve missed out on shopping and partys and walks and exploring and visiting places even just food shopping. days out with my family which used to happen but haven’t for years. i have endless vivid dreams of going to the shops and being able to physically buy things again and i wake up feeling so sunken hearted that it’s not true. everyone always takes tiny things for granted like simply visiting friends or family or shops or school, but i will never take it for granted again because i’d do anything to be able to see what i’ve missed. i miss the world. i miss life 😭😭

      Sorry to hear this, but please be encouraged that we have cured people who haven’t left their homes for decades, one lady suffered for over 70 yeas but now is free and you absolutely can be too (there’s a few examples here on our channel.). Have a listen to our podcast ‘Making The Change’. In series 3 we interviews a lady we cured after she had suffered for 57 years. We also share lots of tips in our podcast and in our book Conquering Anxiety. Finally, there’s a trilogy of tips that have helped many people on our TikTok. You can get better, you will get better, just keep trying and follow our suggestions as well as having your therapy. Good luck 💕

      Maybe... I need to remember, where is started.
      Maybe when my childhood friend was removed from river. Afterwards, very young, I started to work with Mother in hospital. I can stand sick people but I will vomit too. I feel useless for not being strong.

      It’s a very common phobia and although sometimes a little stubborn, it is entirely treatable. Hope our films here on our TH-cam channel and tips help.

    I have had emetophobia for as long as I can remember and I really struggle with it, but I really can't remember where/how it started? I have tried thinking back to my first experience but I really can't remember... Can anyone advise me how to remember? Thank you! ❤

    Love your videos and all the advice. I suffer from emetephobia. I don't exactly remember when it started, I just remember suffering from it always. Should I then pick a random memory from my childhood and try to challenge that specific event mind wise or how do I get started on this treatment journey? I've had enough of this phobia.

    • @nikandevaspeakman
      @nikandevaspeakman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is the most common phobia we come across, so first please do know that you can overcome it. The best thing to do is to write a time line of events from childhood, and look at those (we have a film about that here on our channel). What may have happened? How it made you feel etc. Do bear in mind it could be seeing someone sick at school and noticing the other children’s’ reactions, whether that be everyone showing disgust or laughing and you wanting to avoid that happening to you. It can be seeing a parent being sick and if you’re very young not understanding, thinking you could lose a parent, it could also be you or someone else being sick as a child and the adult (whether parent or teacher)not dealing with it well or shouting at you for making a mess. So look at all eventualities and the emotions back then as that’s usually a good start. We share our process and discuss this particular phobia in our book ‘Conquering Anxiety’ too. However, once you’ve written a timeline and have possible events that could have started it, then you can discuss this with a therapist to help you through it too. Hope that helps x
