I'm a former heroin addict in recovery, Ode to Quetzalcoatl and Free At Last was really moving for me when I was in early recovery. I used to sit in my bed, still sick from withdrawal, and listen at full volume on my headphones.

Crazy how you mention that I’m in early recovery and stumbled upon this album on accident but fell in love with it. 🧺💓

@@daisychainmilk welcome to an easier, softer way of life man. I have alot of regrets in my life, but I never regret getting clean. I hope you find whatever it is you're looking for in recovery.
I can remember feeling really raw my first 90 days clean. music would come on the radio and it would bring me to tears, random Katy Perry songs lol. I have really evocative memories listening to Dave Bixby.

I am so happy I found this. I have had so many dark moments with substance abuse and Dave Bixby would have been such a healing voice to hear sooner. What an honor it would be to hear his sweet soulful, gentle sound in person. Thank you for this documentary! Makes it feel like I got to meet the man behind the mystery

20:12 "Are you involved here?" Man ain't that the case. It's very rare for me to find an absolutely fantastic theologically driven song let alone stumble upon a whole album that came out decades ago. Dave has got a God-given gift.

I’m not a particularly religious guy but listening to Dave Bixby makes me feel such a way that it inspires me to make religious music, not in the obvious way but in the subtle way Dave did, his song morning sun is just one of the bests songs ever written, plain and simple

Thanks for organizing this. I am among those who stumbled across the album almost accidentally and captured by it unexpectedly.
I like the performance clip at 15:00. Is there more of that exact recording somewhere?

People think that he died from an LSD overdose and liked smoking herbs to Ode, even though the lyrics of the album send a completely different message.
Hell, he even says "And fell out of tune
/ Oh Jesus tell her I'm not lying any more / And I want to love her again." And 19-21 year old kids think that he went off to find gnomes or died from OD'ing on drugs? I'd assume he just became a normal guy who played guitar

I'm glad to see he's doing okay, watching vapid hipsters squirm over hearing the name of Christ and God never ceases to entertain me. He would be received so well in a church instead of some copy paste art den full of degenerates but then again his music understands their condition better than they do.
