I can relate so much with the guy who emailed them telling them that he was dying and that their music made life so much bearable. Coming into existence myself with severe depression and other ailments Coil's music really makes me feel part of something magical, and I can say that I am grateful that I lived enough to listen to their discography. If reincarnation is real than I really wish that I listen to their music all over again, if nonexistence is real than I have met enough spirituality in flesh and thought in Coil.
Boy he was telling the truth about a lot of industrial bands that didn't try hard enough. I guess that's one reason why the genre is kind of dead beyond being a trope of its former self.
true! both industrial and noise genres are now dead and boring, i cant see a single reason to listen to stick with any of the new noise/industrial projects, because they just seem like they're boring version of what we all have already heard
I was pen pals with jhon ....and peter in 1991 .... but mostly Jhon ( he penned them ) I still have a letter from jhon and his handwriting is trippy lovely cursive , and the things he says in the letter are so deep and kind and special , it is like something from 100o years ago . I also (e)mailed with Cyclobe ( who were half of COIL in 1990/91) a bit , and they told me a couple about the recording of Love's secret domain ( by Coil) and what it was like to work on that album with peter and John , and the Cyclobe guys are also very, very special beautiful people. Peter RIP ( we had Thailand in common) and Jhon RIP ( alcohol is the most problematic drug I have ever dealt with; I can see why it took him down ) Thresh hold House Boys Choir by Peter and Soisong by Peter with COH , are very very worth owning , some deep stuff.

D'accord: "It's a fantastic advantage to be an outsider, but at the same time, you lose the protection of being in the middle, but given the choice, I'd always rather be on the outside." Lovely documentary.
Back when Napster made suggestions I found Coil. I just ran across a lion's mane mushroom hooked up to drone with an oscilloscope making synth and it all came back to me. 👍
dude remember when all you could get on Napster was the Frogs, the Residents, Coil and terribly mislabeled german industrial ha ha ha ha. a formative experience!!! Andy Martin (of UNIT) and Larry Peterson booked Coil to play live at The Recession Club in Ponsford Road, Hackney, in 1984. It was (I think) their 2nd live concert. Sleazy and John were joined by a young woman called Min on drums. There were barely 30 people in the audience, including myself. After the performance, Andy and Larry were worried they'd not have sufficient funds to pay Coil's expenses...but they asked for £5 and nothing more! I was mightily impressed by their totally non-rock star attitude. The music was really interesting, too.
…though band members die off,…entire band’s fold,…their creative forces live on through inspiring us,…within our veins are the constructs of an ancient gnosis,..an infinite Coil, the Sky Clad Snake that never dies…devouring itself *•.*.•*
do you have any info of Coil visiting Saint-Petersburg, Russia (8.55-9.02 in the video)? I guess it was during their visits with concerts in Moscow, but can't find any information or other videos regarding the question
Very interesting interview, thanks for the upload. 'It's all right getting out of it, as long as you can get back in' - Mick Jagger on the death of Brian Jones. He could have been talking about Jhon Balance. RIP Sleazy and Jhon/Geff.
Never let music to change my life. I liked the sound of Coil, TG and all the rest of this stuff. But I never took it too serious. In the end it was all just entertainment. KRAFTWERK is a piece of art. Forget the rest
Didnt realise Sleazy was dead until now. Another semi mysterious death... Maybe one of the children lashed out. Who knows. I try not to let it affect my love for the music.
As time went on Sleazy had become more and more obese, add to that the hellish tropical weather of Thailand and his hobbies and there's the recipe for something like cardiac arrest or aneurysm
So he was a booze hound by 1982? That rather contradicts the comfy post-ecstasy narrative that Sleazy outlines. It still kills my kids when I tell them that John 'Balance' died by falling down the stairs. He sounds like an utter liability, I'm afraid.
I thought that was a mistake, like he didn't really mean '82, because he was talking about the late 90s right before, with the drinking getting worse as the 90s progressed. I don't know for sure, though. Just what I though when hearing it.
@@GizzyDillespee Yes I picked up on that and was trying to reconcile. I wonder what he actually meant given that he was already into the 2,000s. Maybe a bit has been cut in between. Also, it sounds that they split up as a result of that excessive drinking so that can't be in 1982, surely it must be much more recent.
Young working class boys mutilating themselves. It's ridiculous that Christopherson makes this some sort of spiritual achievement. Surprised he didn't call it "Gary Glitter Trance Musick".
