This is about as human as music can get. They’re not master musicians, they aren’t playing sold out venues, they’re just 2 guys trying to make real and honest art. I really appreciate them for that.
Jesus, it's so beautiful imperfect, their music! There's parts where they're so off sync that I flinch a little bit, but it's so fantastically natural. Nothing like it. For some reason this music gives me intense vibes of when I was just a baby in Woodstock. So much nostalgia in a band that I've only known about for like 3 months.
funnel 6 I’m not feeling it. Call me when their music reaches its teenage years. Having said that I respect how humble they are, like children experimenting while not caring about outcome, ‘playing’ with sound, being themselves. The music does have integrity, I’ll give em that.
joanofarc33 Although Phil’s music is considerably stripped down in these performances and injected with an element of playfulness, his albums are exceedingly mature and poignant. Check out “A Crow Looked At Me” under his monicker: Mount Eerie. No “teenage” experiment stuff there.
I was listening to "Big Black Cloud" the other month and I was listening to the folks singing in unison in the background and I thought to myself... "is that Kyle Field" And this just solidified the fact that it probably is. Love both these artists, especially Kyle. Cheers all and enjoy!
@@ditchlily7361 We were there together :) it was just after this tour, when we (Thanksgiving) , Kyle and Bobby Birdman went on a tour of OR & CA together. Timeless feelings. Simpler times. Mas joy
love this. wondering, were The Microphones and Little Wings popular at this time? Like are these normal shows for them or are they purposely playing smaller diy spaces?
Dustin Hayes I think Glow Pt. 2 got a 10 from pitchfork the year before this, so I don’t know if I would say they were popular, but a more normal tour might have been possible
Matt Fastnaught It’s fascinating how after Glow Pt. 2 Phil could have made more accessible albums and become a more mainstream folk guy but instead stuck with his art and made the most inaccessible weird album ever with Mount Eerie.
I feel like Phil really screwed himself over when he changed his name from the Microphones to Mount Eerie. I mean, you don't put out several banger albums that are critical darlings, and then change your name. This was his brand name, and he threw it away like it's nothing. That's not how you build a fan base, that's how you remain a tiny act that plays school gyms. It's almost like he put the Microphones in the witness protection program in order to make it disappear. How many times have people not gone to a Mount Eerie show or not checked out a Mount Eerie album, because they didn't know this show or album was actually the Microphones?
Thanks brother deep feeling. I will watch it again for it's positive vibe. The sound is extraordinary throughout I would love to know how you achieved it. Did you dub it? No criticism, it's very good.
Some personal little craziness happened at the end of ‘02. Kyle got with an ex of Phil. Phil got thrown into a weird muck. Ended up running off to Norway for a few months from November 2002 to March(?) 2003 to meditate. Beautiful songs and a fantastic 144 page diary of Phil’s came from it. They patched things up later on!
A lot of this seems silly. It’s like he’s an artist that isn’t taken over by pop. I also believe he couldn’t do it if he tried. Beck is a freak of nature. Cough* “one foot in the grave”

This is an insane time capsule to the early 2000’s. I cant describe these feelings I get from this.
flip flops, knitted sweaters, flea market guitars, intimate music in college halls - what's not to love here??
there's just something magical about watching phil run through a field like a child
cant believe i only just found this
Name a more iconic duo
i bought this from kyle way way back, at what the heck fest. this reminds me so deeply of youth. xoxo

joanofarc33 teenage? i mean these guys have been making music for 20+ years. this documentary in particular is pretty much 14 years old.
joanofarc33 Although Phil’s music is considerably stripped down in these performances and injected with an element of playfulness, his albums are exceedingly mature and poignant. Check out “A Crow Looked At Me” under his monicker: Mount Eerie. No “teenage” experiment stuff there.
This makes me nostalgic for a time when I wasn’t even alive yet.
This might be my favorite video and documentary ever
Timestamp for myself when I rewatch this in a month: Mount Eerie at 5:17

Phil himself has said on Twitter that things didn't really blow up after The Glow Pt.2.
These were typical of shows from this time period, yes.
