I’m not a fan of Paltrow but I’m glad she won. I became aware of this trial at some point during Sanderson’s friend & dr’s testimony. I especially believed what the dr said of his injuries and how they happened, and was horrified by how they presented the situation & Paltrow’s behavior, that coupled with her facial expressions which I found to be arrogant, cold, and unsympathetic. At that point I was fully on his side. Then I listened to some of her testimony, some of Sanderson’s testimony under cross examination and wow, just wow. It certainly proved to me, once again, the importance of getting both sides before drawing conclusions. My opinion did a 180 and I could see the reason for her expressions. I’m sure they’re both glad it’s over, tho Paltrow must be happier.

I don't know why it makes me so happy but... so many people watching live were complaining that the snow sports biomechanical physicist was "too nerdy" and "too much math" and tuning him out just because of the math -- I feel vindicated in that I thought he was by far the most compelling witness. Like a good scientist he followed both hypotheses with error, used the right equations, used the right expertise, and even though his drawing were super basic, they were SO easy to follow. Now granted I took PhD courses in stats, etc... but hell, if I had HIM for my undergrad calc physics, I might have a totally different career because he was amazing. I also loved that he had error ranges instead of an exact answer which is the only answer a person could reasonably have.
Hooray for math, physics, and good natured teachers. You can always tell the brightest ones because they can explain even complicated stuff to just about everyone... except opposing counsel hahahaha.

@@todddepue681 It's cool hearing from someone who isn't a math nerd too because I had a feeling like -- "Oh surely even non-nerds can understand this guy if they try, even if not the equations". I think the equation stuff was just like -- not the most helpful for the jury but requisite to cover with the other guy just using the wrong equations.
Not sure if you watched when they brought the other physicist back at the very end of trial as their FINAL witness (which to me personally even though I like math, I thought was -- wow seriously, you're going to bring your fail physicist on to fight the ski physicist??!), just kinda showed that experience as an attorney in years does not make someone have good judgment LOL.
The saddest part about that plaintiff final rebuttal testimony was that their "expert" essentially called Terry a liar? "No there's no possible way he left the ground". Not sure if the folks at home caught that either since TS said he literally flew up in the air.

It was like, we can't get visuals to work, a connection to work, we're wasting everyone's time, he's explaining why his math is great -- but of course the plaintiff is a liar! I was just like... what? what? Why did they call him? I seriously thought they would try to do some, like ANY cleanup over all the trip photos or something. Like oh, the jury just saw that in the few years after his "life altering TBI / concussion" that he flew, went ziplining, went scuba diving (and he's so fragile and a lot of people know that international flights and scuba are serious brain injury stroke risks, but oh let's ignore that too) -- but like this super suffering guy has more photos of traveling the world in those few years than potentially the entire 8 people on the jury have combined LOL. I mean I'm not saying people in utah can't travel but I was like... I've traveled a lot and that guy makes me look like a homebody! I thought they might do something, like anything to emphasize in detail that it was hard or something other than that Jenny complained - the Jenny who didn't testify and who never got along with him. And oh here's a photo of you broken hearted from losing the love of your life with another hot young woman right after. And again no judgment, but it seemed a bit dubious to show a guy "suffering greatly" who at 76 was doing more than a lot of people at 60. And he's got 90 devastating life threatening health conditions... but he's going to live another 10 years so 3.2 million dollars... okay.
I was just kinda imagining that if the jury reflects a "normal" population of people from this day and age - yes I guess some travel a lot, but damn, for a super devastated guy I was like WTF was he living like a young Keith Richards prior to this?? I mean he lives in Utah so is he just in that small percent missing the lines of coke and playboy mansion or what? (I'm a Midwesterner though, so I guess we're famous for thinking this stuff is .... grandiose. Even our medical doctors here are like humble people in t-shirts and jeans).

His version means he had to start from behind her, catch her, pass her, get into her lane (and she was hugging the edge of the slope away from everybody) then somehow she is going to catch him again at the slow speed and hit him from behind him. The judge has to decide and per Utah law that can only be awarded if Paltrow’s side proves Sanderson brought the lawsuit under bad faith - knowing he was lying or didn’t have evidence to prove it was her fault. That was from TS's initial complaint many years ago. In a later complaint that lead to this trial he asked for $300,000.
"Sanderson's original complaint, filed in January 2019, accused Paltrow of having "skied out of control" into Sanderson and "knocking him down hard, knocking him out, and causing a brain injury, four broken ribs and other serious injuries."
In an amended complaint, filed the following month, Sanderson changed the value of damages he sought in the lawsuit from $3.1 million to $300,000.
Paltrow filed a countersuit in February 2019 in which she claimed it was Sanderson who "plowed into her back," delivering a "full 'body blow'" and leaving her "shaken and upset." Ultimately, she said she sustained "relatively minor" injuries.
The award-winning actress and Goop CEO called the lawsuit against her an "attempt to exploit her celebrity and wealth" in her countersuit. She sought "symbolic damages" of $1 "plus her costs and attorneys' fees" for defending herself against "this meritless claim."

To be fair, if somebody travels it doesn't mean they have no TBI. In fact, it is recommended to travel more, to have novel experiences, as it helps to heal the brain.
But it really depends on the type of injury. TBI is extremely easy to get. You can literally just hit your head on a cupboard and be in a state for a month or even years where you'll barely want to live and get out of the house or even bed, let alone travel.
Or you can get hit in the head regularly during boxing and only get more compulsive over time, with all other faculties intact, or just have a bit more slurred speech, but function well. It's very hard to predict.

Personally, I think it was a no-brainer. Sanderson clearly lied several times. He claimed he had no “enjoyable” life and had greatly limited function after the crash yet over 60 photos showed just the opposite. There were also claims that he had anger issues after the crash, yet it was proven that he had to go into anger management therapy after his divorce many years before the crash. To me, that’s a slam dunk. When you’ve been shown to blatantly lie about such claim-related significant matters, how could any jury struggle with who’s telling the truth on the stand. I am not a celebrity watcher, nor really care about the bright lights of fame, so the mere fact that the concept of celebrity was used to explain why Sanderson lost the case, in my opinion, is just lame. So glad this farce is over.
