I'm just wondering how can I keep the laptop plugged into power? Since the doors and windows must be closed and laptop has to be connected to OBD for ENET..
Unless I can use wireless ENET and keep laptop outside of the car? Since I dont know how long the software update process will take and dont want laptop to run out of battery

That was a very interesting video. Thanks for sharing it. I have a few questions. If you aren't supposed to have a cable going through the window and the doors are supposed to be closed, does that mean your laptop has to be inside the car? You said the current from your power supply was between 25 and 29 A. Was the battery fully charged before you started the process? That seems to be rather high current if the battery wasn't charging. I have an F87 and when the battery is charged, turning on many accessories, the power rarely exceeds 20 A. When you programmed the second time, did it reprogram all of the modules over again or only the ones that didn't program properly the first time? I'm guessing it did everything again, based on the time. What were the 2 fault codes at the end? Thanks again.

Nice video, very useful - thanks! Why do you think upgrading the istep and this improving gear shifts or performance is a myth? Although it's not true for all cars/upgrades it can definitely be the case for some upgrades, if it didn't improve anything the upgrade wouldn't exist.

    • @bmwsolutions7880
      @bmwsolutions7880  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for your comment.
i-level software updates are very essential for our cars of course. As you said, otherwise no update option would exist. However, most of the time (%99 of the time) updates are for newly produced modules (not cars) to sync with the whole car. Bmw constantly produces new modules (ECUs) and their part numbers are changing all the time (Realoem.com would confirm this). So, this is the main reason they add additional line of codes in their updates if people or bmw need to replace an ECU. Of course there are some improvements on other components, such as gear shifting, smoother idrive operating etc. But this not the case for every released update and BMW doesn't exactly tell what updates improves what....
And I'm tired and fed up of seeing people on TH-cam, telling others to keep updating their i-level for better performance and horse power 😖 when people try, they keep bricking the ECUs, this is the main reason no one should promote updates on i-level if car runs fine.

@@bmwsolutions7880 Thanks for the reply, this makes sense and I definitely agree with you there - generally if it ain’t broke don’t fix it! ;) I also didn’t consider the idea of newer modules so this makes a lot of sense. I’ve only ever had it done by a BMW dealer when I knew there was something on the later version I wanted, and definitely wouldn’t promote anyone doing it themselves!

Hello. Please help, I have a problem with the car.
BMW 420D Gran Coupe 2017, engine B47, automatic, mileage 178 thousand km.
Periodically there is a problem with the drive and the gearbox goes to the emergency: on sudden acceleration there is a kind of shock-push, then there are errors - the drive is defective, selector blinks in position D, no gear shifting, as well as there is an error on stabilization. After stopping and shutting down the car, the problem disappears when you start again. It appears rather seldom, there is no any systematics, but it is dangerous, especially when overtaking.
No active errors when connected to the diagnostics, but in the history the errors are saved:
    EGS unit:
420598 Transmission output deceleration: Too large
    DSC unit errors:
    D3557A
    D35577
    D35677
    Faults on ICM unit:
    D019AB
    D0157A
Please help me, I searched all the forums, sites, I could not find anything.

I-Level of my f36 2018 is still on factory level. Since a few days my Headunit (HU-H) is restarting about every 5 minutes.
I am kinda afraid of updating the I-Level. Can an update cause any aftereffects? Is it really a software issue after 6 years?

Great video. Interesting to find out you cured a head unit restart issue with software as have same issue on mine. I don't have iCom but have eNet cable & Esys. You mentioned more complicated via Esys - but then said you still need to use ISTA to complete ' afterwork follow up processing to clear fault codes & complete initialisations on certain components'. Out of interest how do you know this is required, and is it completely essential? Could I run those aspects in ITSA with eNet cable? If I cant do this without ISTA, do you still recommend the VCX SE or someting else? Thanks.

      @bmwsolutions7880  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks for comment, I'm glad you understood every aspect of the video 👍
E-sys can surely be used when coding with enet cable on individual and multiple modules. Ista needs to be used after the coding to complete housekeeping basically. In summary, yes you can code your module with E-sys and complete all the initialisations with ista using enet cable. Vcx se is not fully reliable to replace icom, so I wouldn't recommend it really. Let me know if you have any other questions 👋

    • @bmwsolutions7880

I think I answered that question during the video. My programming session was disrupted and even power supply stopped sending the voltage. I just continued and repeated the process which solved the problem in the end. That's why ista is very safe to rely on as it doesn't brick ecus.

My battery died mid way through my head unit update. I recharged the battery, pulled the head unit fuses, reconnected ISTA and restarted/continued. It's a myth about the need for a 100amp power supply. You just need a battery charger topping up as it flashes.

Hi, thank you for your compliments 🤠
I also wanted to buy Autel maxi tablet a few years ago. It has all service functions, error code reding and programming functions but price was too high. Also they charge for licensing every year which is stupidly high. Basically, it is for mechanic shops in my oppinion as it's too expensive for an individual.
I suggest you learn about Ista + Rheingold
It is official BMW software and great way to learn about your car. It has video and picture guidance when you repair or replace a part. Autel doesn't tech you anything, just solves your problem at a very very high price tag. Carly is similar in a way as they require subscription for every service function. You may also consider getting Bimmerlink instead of carly, you pay once and use it on any BMW forever for free. I have some videos about ista and bimmerlink on my channel, so have a look for more info.
      Hope this helps.
      All the best 👍

I see, but you need to consider the hardware on your car as well. So, even if you update i-level to the latest possible version, you may not be able to unlock some features by soft coding because your hardware wouldn't support them.
As you know I'm a BMW enthusiast DIYer not working as a mechanic , so I wouldn't be able to offer you any service but I can recommend a person in North London at Platinum Remaps (name is Assad)

You can also ask him direct questions to decide if you need it or not.
