Just watched Be Prepared. Amazing work!! But this is still my favorite one you've done so far besides Hallelujah. Honestly, I could listen to you and your wife all day (and have sometimes at work :D).
Hellfire is, without question, one of my absolute favorite Disney songs - not simply Disney VILLAIN songs, but Disney SONGS. It's brilliantly written and layered: even as Frollo proclaims that his lust for Esmeralda is not his fault, but hers, the chorus - his own inner voices - proclaims "Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa!" The Confiteor is a confession, an admission of guilt and of human frailty and weakness in thought and word, in what was done and what they failed to do. But Frollo, despite knowing that his actions are wrong, forges on ahead anyway. And that is the tragedy of this song.
Disney needs to return to this darker style and themes that was the 90s, it held and holds some of the best Disney movies ever made, and now that we’re entering live action, this movie if ever remade needs to hold this dark theme, everything needs to be captured in the dark way, I would go see the movie multiple times if it was done right
After going back and watching the medley version, I spotted some cool differences. In the medley he seems more depressed and worried about the fact that he was feeling the way he was. In this version he sounds more angry and vengeful. Peter, you did an awesome job man. Now Please do a full version of Be Prepared!!!
Don't forget you can get your name on my Physical Album for The Greatest Showman!! EVERY SINGLE SONG FROM THE ENTIRE MOVIE! Only 7 Days left to get your name on it Hollensfam!!! WWW.PATREON.COM/PETERHOLLENS Best time ever to join the Hollensfamily on Patreon!!!
This is actually how the book version of this movie ends: ".. after yet another failed attempt to win her love, Frollo betrays Esmeralda by handing her to the troops and watches while she is being hanged. When Frollo laughs during Esmeralda's hanging, Quasimodo pushes him from the height of Notre Dame to his death. Quasimodo goes to the cemetery, hugs Esmeralda's body, and dies of starvation with her." I agree Frollo's song is dark, but they did rework the story considerably to make it Disney worthy. It could've have been much.... much worse. Also Esmeralda is only 16 in the book and falls in love with Phoebus, who just wants to sleep with her. Then Frollo attempts to murder Phoebus in a jealous rage and Esmeralda gets the blame for the stabbing, after which Phoebus no longer wants her.
I should recommend watching the Musical that Disney released that's even closer to the events of the book. Like really close, they've included new characters, expanded the plot by adding extra scenes, and adapted the ending of the book
My high school is doing this and I just went to see it last night!!! The guy who plays Frollo is literally the nicest person ever, so it was hard to believe he was the villain.

I'm not quite sure why, but your voice sounds very different in this cover. Could it be because the song has a more sinister tone, or it's more intense? Im not sure, but you still rocked it! Been waiting for this one since the Disney Villains medley
He's mentioned that he trained for opera in college, it feels like he's colored this in a way that is a lot more indicative of that instead of the more pop style that he uses. Which given the style of the song makes sense.
OMG! I noticed that too! I've been wanting him to do this since the villain medley, but it sounded a bit off. I think in the medley he tried to mimic the accent, and in here, he let his normal voice shine through a lot more
Oh my goodness literally brilliant, I love how you put so much emotion in your voice when you do songs 💛 (also this film actually terrified me as a kid, I don’t blame you for the warning 😂)
Same here, didn't even know this song existed until I went through a disney villain song compilation some time ago! Quickly became one of my favorites though, the absolute raw power behind it is something else.
As a child I never really liked the movie but now I love it and all the fantastic music. And Frollo is definitely the most underappreciated Disney villain. Such a well written and insane character. Most disney villains are a bit to mustache twirling and evil for the sake of being evil. But Frollo is a multi faceted character that projects all his faults on others, while elevating himself over everyone else.
Yes! I, too, was terrified and, somehow, drawn by the character of Frollo at once. This song especially scared me and now I pity the character and the men who inspired the character, as they were as human as we are. Peter Hollens, I think, captured Frollo's mindset as a real person would experience it perfectly, too!
Damn it, Peter! You were scary af in this video. If they ever do a live version of HOND I hope they cast a young actor as Frollo because I think it makes him much more dangerous and creepy than if he looks like a grandpa. :)
I felt you, I saw you, the sun caught in your golden hair, was blazing in me out of all control! I think, that we can all agree, that you rocked this! Thank you so very much for doing this cover! ^^

I'm not used to you singing this low. Did you know when your voice dips low, your ears wiggle? It's the cutest thing I've ever seen (aside from my hubby and kids, naturally).
Literally said "YES" when I saw this. I have so many covers of this song, and I love it even more. Thank you, Peter. I'm just gonna say, I loved the video you did with Whitney Avalon, the Disney Villain Medley. To this day, I can't stop singing it. I love your work. You are my biggest inspiration ❤️ Keep up the good work, Peter!
This was AMAZING! The singing, the facial expressions, the whole atmosphere - an absolutely perfect cover of one of my favourite songs. I genuinely have chills!! I am for sure going to keep coming back to this one. Also those rolled 'r's - I wish I knew how to do that!
You can actually roll your r's somewhat already. Say the number 3 a few times and listen to how you softly roll your "r". Keep repeating it and slowly "exaggerate" it. Soon, you can roll your "r"s well. 😁 It just takes some practice.
This song is probably the one classic Disney song that I did not fully comprehend as a child. Though I now understand the reason why it became the one my Mum least liked me and my brother watching after she actually sat down and watched it with us
Just became a patron! I forgot how much I loved this song; this is definitely one of my new favorite covers! I also never noticed that this was G-rated movie, I would watch this when I was at least 7-9, WTH???
Ohhhh!! This premiere concept is brilliant. I was so excited that you posted a video before Friday. ...now I see that I just have more to look forward to on Friday
Okidokes! Get that sucka trending. You had such a chilling bit of this song in your Disney villains medley so the prospect of a whole song is brilliant.
The emotions, power, vocal control in this song is INSANE. That is why to me it is the hardest song to sing. But boy did you SING IT!!! You got some PIPES my brother, great job
I had a female teacher at college who refuses to give her class unless all male students were in long pants... In summer... In Brazil... I can totally see her singing a version of this song...
This is perhaps my favorite cover of the song just because of how you growl the lyrics, it just adds so much character, I love it! Definitely gonna listen to this on repeat for hours hahaha
Your voice is so well suited for this song. For me it's better than the original. So much strength, passion, hate. Thank you very much for that! (now I want to see the musical)
@@carbon5362 They're conveying different emotions, I think. The movie version is more nice guy-ish-- Frollo sounds torn, like he's trying desperately not to blame himself. Peter's version, on the other hand, sounds like he knows *exactly* what he's doing. As part of the broader narrative, the former might work better, but as a stand-alone villain song Peter just sounds so much crueler it's terrifying all by itself.
Danielle Kwon I am an Atheist. Besides, not only has he done Hellfire (a song with religious undertones), but he's also done an entire Prince of Egypt melody (A movie based off of Moses' story in the bible).
OR SOME MORE GOD DAMN PRINCE OF EGYPT! this is one of my biggest pet peeve here. I love the movie, not Boys II Men. Did anyone even realize they were part of the film until going to look up the score late?
Thank you for the full length cover. I admit my bias leans towards for musical choices in the Villains Medley rather than this version. I admire your artistic choices as always and how you always bring an emotive performance. It sounds like you added more distortion to your voice in this rendition than the original. It appears to be a conscious choice of a trained singer rather than an unconscious choice of a beginner struggling due to not understanding how to sing to protect their voice and make clear sounds. My guess would be to add the struggle between raw passion and devotion to religion that Frodo is going through in this song. While it makes for a more emotional performance it definitely changes the way it sounded in the full length from the snippet in the Villains Medley. I wish you would have backed off the emoting through your voice because the visual performance was clear in the video. You really brought life to the song in your acting. This is just my personal preference. I will forever love your unique renditions and your continuous spark to rekindle my love for the Disney movies I treasured on VHS as a kid. 💖
I noticed the intentional difference and totally agree with you. Still love everything he does though, and super happy that he listened to the requests for a full version!
Totally agree! I've been a fan of Peter's for 4 years and always love his stuff! But I actually liked Jonathan's take on it better. Peter's version is great! I just prefer Jonathan's. Felt more emotionally correct to my interpretation of Frollo.
The red hooded guys are singing in Latin. 0:12 : Et tibit Pater - And to You 0:24 : Quia peccavi nimis -Brothers 0:36 : Cogitatione - Theoretically 0:48 : Vebro et opere - Vebre, and deed, Many instances starting at 1:14: Mea Culpa -My fault 1:18 and 1:25 : Mea maxima culpa - I have failed 2:12 : (both Latin and Greek) Kyrie Eleison - Lord, have mercy
*Hellfire it's Disney. If you think that it's G-rated, I don't think so* Man, I watched this back when I was around 5 or 7 years old. At that age (7 years old) I got that weird freaking feeling about Frollo. So, yeah. This isn't G-rated at all. Lmao.
Kai Zihao well this film was when a time Disney was great and wasn’t afraid to tackle serious issues and darker things which is great . but now it’s all flowers and roses and everyone in Disney is happy and sweet and too positive which is pretty lame lmao
Well, that certainly speaks to children having good instincts for something being off. The trouble is usually that they've learned that they can diss their teachers all they like without major trouble resulting, but then freeze up when it's strangers.
While waiting for the inevitable awesomeness of this cover, I recommend checking out Jonathan Young's rock cover of Hellfire in the meantime. It is also amazing.

Oooooh! SO. MUCH. EXCITMENT! This song is so good anyway, I can’t wait to see Peter’s rendition
I CANNOT wait for you to hear/see it!!
Illumination: Biggering was too dark so we cut it
Disnep: "Be mine or burn"
Another reason to hate illumination
Also, what Disney has become.
I'm not quite sure why, but your voice sounds very different in this cover. Could it be because the song has a more sinister tone, or it's more intense? Im not sure, but you still rocked it! Been waiting for this one since the Disney Villains medley
Yeah I think he changed his tone to sound more devilish.
I’m not sure if all singers do this, but I definitely put a tiny bit of effort into changing my tone depending on the song/character.
I think in the medley he tried to mimic the accent, and in here, he let his normal voice shine through a lot more
+NYCn1nja Glad I'm not the only one who noticed :) I love Peter but this wasn't the song for him in my opinion!!!
You should really do Scar's "Be Prepared" from Lion King!
Deal!!
Peter Hollens Yes!
Orrin McLaws I agree with you there
@@PeterHollens YES!!!
Peter Hollens yay!!!!!!!!!!
Let’s take a moment to realize how much Frollo is a nice guy. He’s rejected so he tries to burn down all of Paris.

Such a lovely bloke
Sadly, he kills Quasimodo’s mother.

Ooooo yes!!!!
Damn it, Peter! You were scary af in this video. If they ever do a live version of HOND I hope they cast a young actor as Frollo because I think it makes him much more dangerous and creepy than if he looks like a grandpa. :)
OneYoungLady ooh in the original version, Frollo is actually a younger man!! So we still have a chance hahah
I felt you,
I saw you,
the sun caught in your golden hair,
was blazing in me out of all control!
I think, that we can all agree, that you rocked this!
Thank you so very much for doing this cover! ^^
Lord Grubbin well that's not creepy at all.😶
Raven not golden. Sorry

So much passion and emotion! I’m still shocked you’re not on Broadway.
I was last Christmas for Home for the Holiday!! 🎅
You should so do some songs from Miss Saigon! Also point of no return from the phantom of the opera! Oh and maybe stars from Les Miserables! Also Roxanne from Moulin Rouge! That would be awesome!
I literally just clicked the 'like' button for the original English version, then the French version and now for Peter's version? I say I am hooked.
Try the german one. That's really good, too.
Holy crap, this was so good. Chills all over me, man. 10/10, A++
I love the acapella done on this song, it gives a more angelic feel to a very sinister song
I have never been more attracted to Peter Hollens. This is just too beautiful for words
I'm not used to you singing this low. Did you know when your voice dips low, your ears wiggle? It's the cutest thing I've ever seen (aside from my hubby and kids, naturally).
It's more to do with facial expression :) sorry to burst the adorable factor
So cute😆😆😆
Literally said "YES" when I saw this. I have so many covers of this song, and I love it even more. Thank you, Peter. I'm just gonna say, I loved the video you did with Whitney Avalon, the Disney Villain Medley. To this day, I can't stop singing it. I love your work. You are my biggest inspiration ❤️ Keep up the good work, Peter!
Thank you so much Honey! Keep that inspiration flowing! LOVE hearing that!
0:48 just starting and already giving me chills, great job good sir
I love this song and please do more of your songs from the Disney melody as a full cover
Prayers, and love for Paris, and Notre Dame.
Though I now understand the reason why it became the one my Mum least liked me and my brother watching after she actually sat down and watched it with us
Watching this after Notre Dame actually burned..well, to me it was Hellfire.
Same
it always scared me
This song has always haunted me. It's so dark. Plus, the fact that Notre Dam just burned makes it worse.
I don’t care
J I confirm ... I was there when she burned ... I'm French and it was really ... Powerful and scary
Great composition, the background track was well sung.
The emotion in the song was kept, overall 9.5/10
Only 9.5/10?! lol
I give it a 10 out of 10
Just became a patron! I forgot how much I loved this song; this is definitely one of my new favorite covers! I also never noticed that this was G-rated movie, I would watch this when I was at least 7-9, WTH???
Awesome Shannon!!! I know, right?!
other villains: who’s this weird religious guy whats he doing here
frollo: H E L L F I R E
villains: o-OH yes come in come in our bad
LOl yea
Ohhhh!! This premiere concept is brilliant. I was so excited that you posted a video before Friday. ...now I see that I just have more to look forward to on Friday
I'm so excited to try it out!!! Let's be here live together and watch it when it goes live!!!!
Okidokes! Get that sucka trending. You had such a chilling bit of this song in your Disney villains medley so the prospect of a whole song is brilliant.
This is why Hunchback is my favorite Disney movie...you need a disclaimer to listen to it. Lol.
Wow, Frollo has never been sexier ❤
Nah, Jonathan Young makes a steaming hot Frollo too.
I was thinking the same thing.
@@sebastianb.3978 I was about to say that lol
I agree completely, Kristina❤.
0:26 i'm stuck at this part for over an hour now i can't stop rewinding
The emotions, power, vocal control in this song is INSANE. That is why to me it is the hardest song to sing. But boy did you SING IT!!! You got some PIPES my brother, great job
RIP Jean Piat ! The French voice of Frollo, died the 18th September 2018...
Search « Infernal Frollo » on TH-cam, his French voice is incredible !!!
I opened my subscriptions and I saw this and all I could think was "I'm ready..." YASS QUEEN I'VE BEEN WAITING SINCE THE VILLANS SONG
Love it!!
The most scary and twisted love song I ever heard.

The prophecy was true wtf, disney scenarists are like gods or smth
LIKE HELLFIRE
It’s good, yes, however... I wouldn’t really call it “ The Best Cover”. Just my opinion.
Agreed after Be prepared from the lion king obviously!
Actually in real life, Notre Dame de Paris (the name of the cathedral) caught on fire

True
Peter, you never disappoint!! Another great cover!!
You think so? He's really good, though his tone gradually becomes boyish as the song progresses.
wtf no, Frollo's singer communicated the emotion far better and was a much better singer. the emotion here feels very fake
DO NOT DISRESPECT FROLLO LIKE THAT!
He was good but the original was definitely better, Frollo just captures the emotion completely.
You're the one who made me know and like this song; can't wait ♥
I was so confused when I clicked on this😂 then realized why nothing was happening!! This premiere idea is spot on!!! Awesome!! 👏👏👏
Stoked to have you here and ready to watch it with us all on friday!!!
@@PeterHollens How did you even come up this idea? It's so cool to have everyone watch at once! Seriously this is so clever😁
Beyond the words that I know so well, the body language of Peter just looking at the camera gave me goosebumps. He really captured this son so well
I would love to hear a full version of 'Through Heaven's eyes' from Prince of Egypt! Please please please please!
Karen Gillard might not be great for the atheists and other religons.
Calm down, you don't have to be a Christian to enjoy the notion of heaven and that incredible song.
I think it's awesome he took this in a different direction than the snippet of hellfire that he did in his Disney villains acapella
peter: this hellfire is turning me to sin
me: NO ONE's SLICK AS GASTON
real talk, very good
I agree with Peter, this is an incredibly dark song for kids. Also you put so much emotion into this while singing and it showed. Awesome job! :D
Anyone who says Frollo wasn't the single most hatable Disney villain is a liar. This was amazing!
@@massengsle8779 but frollo committed mass genocide
awsome cop show fan But I find his character truly interesting. BUT HEYYY- Disney movies are G. Who committed mass genocide again 🤔
Depressed survivor Guard 1: Is he gonna commit genocide again?

Frollo is such a complicated character, I hate him but I also pity him
Also one of the most realistic.
Mrs.Hollens: Peter...have you seen my purple scarf?
I noticed it was different and preferred the medley version, but I didn't know why (musically a novice).
The red hooded guys are singing in Latin.
0:12 : Et tibit Pater - And to You
0:24 : Quia peccavi nimis -Brothers
0:36 : Cogitatione - Theoretically
0:48 : Vebro et opere - Vebre, and deed,
Many instances starting at 1:14:
Mea Culpa -My fault
1:18 and 1:25 : Mea maxima culpa - I have failed
2:12 : (both Latin and Greek) Kyrie Eleison - Lord, have mercy
Actually Kyrie elaison is a Greek phrase the romans adopted
Thank you.
So cool! Always been one of our favourite Disney movies 😃 Would love to hear you do more Disney villain songs 😄
One of the most underrated songs from Disney
Yesss!! Best Disney villain song!!!
Please tell me I’m not the only one who prefers peters cover to the original, he adds so much drama and intensity to the song.
yeah Hunchback made you think, it was kinda deep when it asked "Who is the monster and who is the man?"
So awesome. So much emotion put in this song. As for me nothing beats Tony Jay but you Peter are close.
I waited so long to finally hear this!!! Thank you so much!!! *crying excitedly*
Peter Frollo: choose. Grave or my bed
Me: bed please
well if its peter easy choice

I'm a straight male but he's hot

*Hellfire it's Disney. If you think that it's G-rated, I don't think so*
Man, I watched this back when I was around 5 or 7 years old. At that age (7 years old) I got that weird freaking feeling about Frollo.
So, yeah. This isn't G-rated at all. Lmao.
Yeah this is Disneys least g rated film ever lol
Kai Zihao well this film was when a time Disney was great and wasn’t afraid to tackle serious issues and darker things which is great . but now it’s all flowers and roses and everyone in Disney is happy and sweet and too positive which is pretty lame lmao
Well, that certainly speaks to children having good instincts for something being off. The trouble is usually that they've learned that they can diss their teachers all they like without major trouble resulting, but then freeze up when it's strangers.
Well that's my sentiment exactly
I've always felt the same about this movie - G rated? Don't think so.
This was incredible! You never disappoint, Peter.
AWWWW.. thanks Michelle!! ❤️
While waiting for the inevitable awesomeness of this cover, I recommend checking out Jonathan Young's rock cover of Hellfire in the meantime. It is also amazing.
