off topic, but if you still have both the p2000 and p30, i heard that the slide of the p30 fits and functions the same as the p2000 slide on the p2000 frame. can you check, i have a p2000 but don't have a p30. i'd think about getting a p30 just to swap slides, to have a p2000 with front serrations and little extra barrel length.

I have the auto and manual in a tanto combo edge. I'm thinking about just the plain edge in the clip point. I'm retired LEO, so I get them a little less expensive. Like you, if I owned one folder, this would be on my short list and would win. I have so many Microtechs. I bought the first edition of the MSI. Everybody tells me to send it in for the upgraded stop pin. Sorry, rambling. Great video.
This knife...I picked up the clip point and loved it but sold it while on a quest for a Combat Troodon (Hellhound). I instantly regretted it and had to get another within about a month. Opted for the Tanto this go-around and it’s not going anywhere. The perfect folder in so many ways and it changed the way I felt about tip-down carry.
i got tons and tons of expensive folders but the socom elite is just on an other level when it comes to beeing solid as fuck!!, free dropping and absolutly zero forced play! + the sound when you flick it open is just insane!

I just ordered the signature series with the bronze DLC blade and I would have to classify the socom as a “go to hell” knife or a apocalypse knife it will do pretty much whatever you need it to
They are both sturdy in their own way, and neither is indestructible, but as close as can reasonably be expected from a pocket knife. The tanto will be a bit better for prying, though I wouldn't recommend you do that with either. The tanto also has the benefit of two separate edges that can be used for different tasks, though having one uniform edge can be of equal use under the right circumstances. I use my Microtechs in a workshop most of the time, and I'm glad I have both tantos and clip points.
AND......lol I just went to Southern Edges that you recommended and ordered a SOCOM auto in green with the satin tanto blade!!!! Awesome. Can’t wait to get it. It does feel like a crazy amount of money, when you think that you can get a whole crate of 5.56 for the same price; I see your point there. The 10 is cool -- the stonewash looks very, very classy in person, though I always end up buying the satin blades because they're flashier and a little garish. That's a great defensive knife, and the new 204P ones are top-notch.

you really peaked my interest no good knife stores around here to put your hands on one but this video was a big help my first mircotech is an ultra tech but went a little more and got the bronzed version and while not cheap it is worth every dime just to catch this dasease but for your first mircotech i would go with this first because it just covers so many right things about a real folder and in the long run you will save money for your next mircotech thanks
The socom and ludt are my favorite knives. Have you tried the Spartan blades pallas? It's close 2 the socom in size. Pretty bad ass knife. I don't like as much as the socom, but close.
You need to try the microtech sigil. Its my favorite knife, and I have lots of knifes. Didn't think I would like it so much. So much utility, and love the everything about it. They stopped making it in 2017, so they are getting hard to find. They have 2 at the same place you got your socom.
Now I want one, dammit. Currently carrying the benchmade griptilian and also an automatic (cant remember brand, but it's only a $100 knife). The thing I love about the benchmade is the locking mechanism, but I hear the patent ran out, so hopefully others will use it since it's fair game.
That's totally understandable. You like what you like, and there's nothing wrong with that! Maybe Microtech will appease you one of these days-- it's not like you're the only one who wants such a model.

@@DeathByLego I think it's just personal preference, though it might depend on what you plan to do with the knife, and local laws. I tend to prefer the manual because it's more fun to play with. They open at almost equal speed, and the manual can easily be opened with a flick of the thumb, even if you're in a compromised position. It's just a hair easier to get the manual closed with one hand, and that's nice if you're using the knife in a workshop environment and opening and closing it 6,000 times a day like I am. If you're going to use it as a sort of tactical self-defense knife along with other tactical kit, the auto might be nice. Both are equally cool, and I'd wholeheartedly recommend whichever one tickles your fancy a little more. I hope that helps! It might not hurt to get a few other opinions too -- I'm just one internet jackoff, and my opinion is certainly not definitive. I'm also a Microtech collector which colors my perspective.

Spring-assisted knives and OTFs have to be maintained far more often, and springs can only fire a finite number of times, while the ball bearing joint on the manual will last forever. Mine knife leaves my pocket 20 times in a day sometimes, cutting wood, guitar binding, opening packages, and even shaving a bit of bone off an acoustic guitar saddle. Springs don't last forever, and I have to have mine replaced every six months or so in my OTFs, maybe every 9 months on my assisted folders. The manual SOCOM has never required any maintenance other than the usual trips back to Microtech to be sharpened. However, if you're going to only ever use the knife for defense, and maybe the occasional tool task, the auto won't have any drawbacks. Though, I'd never recommend ever using your primary defensive knife for tool tasks -- it should only come out when you need to protect yourself in a bad situation. If you're a collection, buy both! I've got an example of almost every Microtech, simply because I love the brand.

Good video. If you can change the oil on your car you can work on Microtech DA OTF knifes and I doubt the SA versions are any harder to work on. It’s not rocket science and if you disassembled it and can’t put it back together charge them to reassemble but don’t punish everyone else that are competent to work on a knife

Though this channel is small, and sees only 3/4 of a million views a year, I hear from hundreds of people who can't even swap a Glock striker assembly. I also hear from people have broken parts during very basic procedures. I'm with Microtech on this one. Most people need to stay out of their OTFs. To the average person, the inside of an Ultratech looks exactly like rocket science. And don't take my word for it -- people tell me that it does in the comments. A better solution is for handy folks to just buy the Microtech tool and fix whatever they please if they don't mind taking the risk. Or they could include the tool, but I'd rather that they not. Microtech would rather fix the knife, at their expense, the right way, and most folks would rather let them. Anyhow, I certainly understand your position, and I think it's totally valid. Maybe Microtech could include the tool in the box, with a very strong disclaimer.
I don't know why I am one of the only ones pointing things like this out and noticing things that nobody is mentioning? Everyone raves about this knife. I just got one. I cannot stand the deployment. It literally sucks and you have to practice. The handle has so little real estate, especially at the bottom where it needs more width, that you have to get used to really keeping your fingers away from the blade so you are not accidentally holding back deployment with an edge of your finger. I find the knife way too 'petite' for a 4" blade. This never happens on the Spyderco Para 2 or Military models, where opening is as smooth as butter and there is more real estate on the handles so you don't even think about where your fingers are. I find the handle on this knife to be way too small, too petite, and not beefy or wide enough, especially at the bottom. Sure it is well made. Once you get used to opening the knife the flipping action is great. All I know is after owning and handling Medfords, Hobacks, Microtech and other classics, I just keep going back to my Spyderco Military and Paramilitary 2 for EDC!
You've got great taste. If I'm doing workshop stuff, I carry the SOCOM, otherwise a green Cypher lives in my pocket. The Cypher is my favorite knife, ever.
I just don’t understand the logic behind tip down. I personally like to grip the knife not the pocket clip. This is what has always held me back from buying this one

PSA for all SOCOM owners, if you drop your shit because you give it to a friend to show them the deployment aggression and they have soft hands, resulting in the destructive tip-down hell-dive into the asphault, just take a phatty torque bit and tighten the main pivot. This WILL fix any radial cone bullshit on the lock #savetheanxiety
