For a car that is so similar for so many years, its suprising how many parts are not similar within the Nova options... Thanks for sharing. Had a lot of issues with this when installing a bigblock in mine some years ago.
the nova was an afterthought for chevy. it was the grandma car that was cheaply sold using a plethora of spare parts left behind from other chevy builds. the more you dive into part numbers and what other cars GM shared parts with youll begin to realize how the nova was nothing special.
I've always called it a motor mount. Anyone that has the time to argue that it's an "engine" mount probably doesn't really know shit anyways. Btw, thanks for another great video, it's these little details that really help.
This is something that I'm glad to get a heads up on, because if you don't have them side by side, they look the same. So I guarantee, unless I had to deal with the clamshell style motor mounts, I'd be having issues.lol. but knowing what to look for, and you including those measurements, that could be a real life and time saver. Still has me thinking about a "best of everything" Nova though.
Funny how , if you pay attention at all, that conversation and inconsistency will enter into your brain ! And like most it was a conversation with my dad around 16 or so and totally car related !… a lot of yea but.. yea ok but.. but ok dad 😂😎. Take care man. Catching up on shirts and vids. Gotta love snow ! Expected a video of you doing donuts at the local mall parking lot in your truck ! That’s how we roll in the north 😁
On my 74 Nova, it has solid steel frame mounts and like the Moroso steel mount on the Engine , a grade "8" bolt threw it holding a small block 327 and M-21 Muncie has a rubber mount, yes I " steel " have the 49and 1/2 inch hood
Could have used this video 6 mos ago. Bought a 69 roller that didn't have the frame mounts. Also, doing an lm7/4l60e swap. I ended up using the BB mounts with ICT billet adapter and had a heck of a time getting them to work. The hardest part was bolting the frame mounts. The bottom bolts have access but the 2 upper bolts are nearly impossible to get to. I saw one video where a guy cut square holes in the fame to get to the bolts. I wish you'd of put how to put those bolts in in your video. Thanks for all your videos!
I uploaded a video (th-cam.com/video/2u8JVHXXLAY/w-d-xo.html) on how I installed the frame bolts. May not be the right way but it turned out to be the easy way.
I dealt with this for years on Chevelles and Novas, only difference was the Nova has the specific BB frame stands and Chevelle doesn't (68-72). What is not shown using solid mounts for the demonstration is that the original wide 307 mounts (using tall and wide frame stands) had no interlocking safety bar and the 350/BB mounts did. 307 rubber mounts would tear and come apart easily unlike the beefier interlocked 350/BB mounts. Now that the aftermarket makes poly mounts it doesn't matter anymore, in the end if you match the frame stand and mount the engine will end up in the same location either way. Problems start when guys pry open the narrow 350 engine mounts to try and fit down over the 307 stands, or put washers in to take up the slack using a 307 engine mount on a 350 frame stand.
Just did this dance on my 73. Was trying to get rid of the solid mounts and fabbed stands. Currently running 72 stands and 72 poly uppers. Yes, I have several new uppers and lowers sitting here... by the way, I have been looking for the plate that bolts around the steering column at the firewall for years. You have an extra laying around?
Hey Buddy, it's been awhile, hope everything is good with you and yours. Good video as always and very good info, just so happens I was needing. Do you have a part number of the Tall / Narrow mounts?
The clamshell type need another bracket that hangs off the subframe a little. It is what the corner of mount bolts too. If you could get and mount those you’d be ok but the older style mount is very strong. 800hp or so.

A lot of people needed to know this information. Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching.
Thanks for this video. I knew the big block mounts were different but didn’t know there were two different small block mounts.

When i built my 71 nova i used 69 camaro big block frame mounts with corresponding engine mounts. Bolted up no issues.
Very informative, thanks and i enjoy the channel.

I had a 74 hatchback with a 350. 👍
Man this is better than any CHELTON Book 😂 I understand this one ❤

I replaced a 250 with a 2 barrel 350, and it took me 3 tries to get the mount/stand combo right, even then I still used mount shims.
🤙🏻
6:13 now I want you to build an in-line 6
If I ever do, it’ll be a 292 truck engine.
@ Ok, deal.
Start collecting parts now, still.
Good info 👍🏼

Yep. There was a huge lawsuit in 1969. That’s when the interlocking mounts became standard.

I don’t have an extra but the Camaro plate is same and available new.

Hey Ronnie!! I do. Email me your number again. Last time I called I couldn’t get you. Hope you’re doing well.
Can you put the clam shell setup on a 1972 V8? They look like they would be stronger.
