Adding dinosaurs and astrology elevated this to another level. Well done, SNL.
"You're acting like the Visigoths right now!"😂
Yep.
"Only traces of em buried in the ground"
*Inevitable Jason Momoa* "KINDA LIKE ROME! 🗡️ 💪"
I am an Art History professor and we covered Rome this semester and discussed the whole "how often do you think of Rome?" thing. So, of course, I'm showing this in class today.
quomodo illud?
So you condone domestic violence. Imagine the genders reversed. I hope a student calls that out.
@@bfan6032 Seems to me that allie is on the side of Rome buffs and would not be doing any domestic abuse to her partner for that reason.
Too many nagging scolds on this platform.

The offbeat transition between bank account and gladiators at 1:38 is so musically compelling
Yeah a lot of the “imperfect” moments seems very deliberately calculated
Lies again? Rome Roma Evil Angel
It's hilarious.
Funny as fuck 😭😭😭😭😭
Reminds me of "Sleeping on the Couch" 😂😂
I give this sketch a X/X. I’ve already watched it 3 times. Well acted, well written, factually accurate, and extremely funny. Definitely V stars
Wow. Your standards a low.
Don't you mean III times?
X / X? Well done, sir (or madam).
Isn't it great.ive looked at it at least twice a day since it's aired.
I give it a full C per C
the kid being into dinosaurs is spot on, i don't know a single man that didn't have an obsession with dinosaurs when they were young
I blame barney
The ones who didn’t were super into trains. It’s always either dinosaurs or trains. Always one or the other, but never both
I didn't. Into comics.
I didn't. Never understood point of dinos or rome.
I'm not a man and had a dino obsession. I still remember begging for dinosaur toys and then finally when I was really sick and home from school, my mom felt sorry for me and bought me a green Diplodocus😢
Man, this might be the funniest sketch of the night! From Jason's rapping, to Ego's constant slapping, I couldn't help but bust up laughing at this pure piece of comedy gold. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
_🎶"From Jason's rapping, to Ego's constant slapping, I couldn't help but to bust up laughing, at ROME! ROME! Ancient ROME!"🎶_ 😂
It was.😂 Other than maybe Weekend Update, this was hands down the funniest damn thing this week hands down, ROME!!
If Jason was "constant slapping" Ego would it still be funny? Domestic violence is not a premise for cometic punchlines! Our society must stop normalizing this behavior.

Can we acknowledge the choreography in the Rome segments? I love it!

The one thing I was disappointed with was the "bright colors" popular misconception -- the truth is somewhere in between. Mark Abbe, probably the leading expert on Roman polychromy, has said that many reconstructions are going a little further than can be supported by the evidence -- the coloration probably wasn't lurid most of the time, but "refined and naturalistic", so as to complement the intrinsic qualities of the marble.

Flashback to the Wells for Boys skit lol
so for those who are not understanding why this is epic: this is a response to a tiktok/vine/shorts/reels that was trending recently during which the girlfriend/wife etc ask their boyfriend/husband if they think about Rome while being recorded. to most of the women's surprise.... most men responded that they do think about Rome.
Thank you for explaining, i had no idea about that trend. The video was still funny, regardless 😂
And I'm pretty sure that's in response to making fun of Andrew Tate. The red pill leader who says men need to think about Rome.
Thank you I didnt know what it was but it was still funny
Vine is still a thing?
@@frankd9945no i don’t know why they said vine it’s a tiktok thing
Man, the second she said "what are you thinking about, baby?" I just knew it was going to be about Rome.
The fact that the video is titled "Rome Song" didn't give it away?

I saw it live and I knew it was going to be Rome, too.
All rhyming words before - alone, home, I predicted Rome, but not this awesome MTV Award worthy music video. Great costumes and choreography, this wasn’t thrown together, this took time.
Jason Momoa was absolutely fantastic and hilarious here
Astrology girlie getting called out right now hilarious imao😂.
Real men STILL think about dinosaurs 🦖🦕
...and Rome, or course.
Real *adults* still think about dinosaurs - got nothing to do with having a penis. ;)

Women do too. Dinosaurs are badass.
Ross? Is that you?
Funny as hell and another awesome performance from Ego!
As funny as the whole song was, that little kid was the best part. This episode was giving the best moments to random children.

@WendyDahling3 I came back to see if anyone else was offering the information. He did a good job.
@@WendyDahling3 Probably some writer's kid. He lacked charisma.

I'm a woman and I often think of Rome too, so this is hilarious. And of course I love astrology! And dinosaurs...whew. My youngest could name every single one of them as a child. I remember we were on a dinosaur exhibit tour at the Carnegie Science Museum in Pittsburgh once years ago. The guide asked if anyone knew the name of the dino skeleton we were looking at, and without a beat my baby (who was 5 at the time) said Corythosaurus. He was the only one who knew! Impressed the hell out of the guide...and me! He ended up walking with the guide the rest of the tour and she'd ask him the name of each dinosaur we looked at and he'd be spot on.
Yes thank you! As a woman, I think about Ancient Rome too. I think that it’s sexist for them to say that only men think about or teach or study about Ancient Rome. Like, haven’t they heard about Mary Beard? The old British lady who writes books, including a new one recently, and does a lot of documentaries about Ancient Rome.
@@HeatherAngus-vj2jq What’s even more sexist is that they included domestic violence in the skit and laughed at it as if it was something to be joked about.
@@HeatherAngus-vj2jqI'm a woman and have always found Greco-Roman (and Egyptian) history fascinating - as wel las dinosaurs! But it is kinda funny to me that every man I've ever known in my life has had a big hard on for Rome. xD I bet none of them knew, however, that the Roman calendar we still use today? Cleopatra told Caesar about that. We wouldn't have that calendar without her! He was killed mostly because he was so involved with this powerful woman whose influence was causing (good) changes in Rome that conservatives didn't like. And then SHE was killed for it. Men can't handle a badass bitch who's smarter than them, and makes sweeping changes for the better!
@@hex3845honestly kinda was hoping the husband to slap back after the wife mentioned Astrology…
Since astrology is a joke
SNL just delved into the brains of classics majors.
hey that's unfair. some of us obsess about Sparta
I’m a classics major and I’ve never felt more seen
Love when SNL parodies current TikToks, trends, and events. Good work, writers! 🎉
All of which was made up misinformation. And you hope it dies on TikTok. And then it gets legs. And now everyone at work thinks it's true. On a platform of hundreds of millions of people you get 1600 agreeing with the point that means it's DOA. It would need 160,000 men agreeing. Ya'll just listened to the 1% and applied it to the 99%.
It's not current. TikTok renders SNL obsolete because it can't keep up.
@@aaronhaceves yeah they either have to go really big and write songs, because otherwise literally every other joke has probably been made by the time Saturday night rolls around. I mean, they have to have the sketches done by like Wednesday to allow time for costumes and set design and whatnot.
@aaronhaceves tik tok is for children and old people. I'd rather not install that sketchy chinese spyware on to my phone. Once you're over thirty, you'll realize that tik tok is something you want nothing to do with.
This sketch is more of just about the facts of life. If you are a man, you think about the Roman Empire, and this is a joke has been around for well overca decade. Much older than tik tok.
@@aaronhaceves Yeah this is kind of a miss for me because the Rome trend came and went on TikTok like 2 months ago. At the time you couldn't escape it, every other TikTok on my feed was a Roman empire joke. It was totally beaten to death, and now it's basically completely disappeared. So this coming out months later feels so off the mark. On the other hand, Chloe Troast's orphan sketch last week was hilarious. I think SNL is much better off just coming up with weird original stuff like that instead of trying to hop on trends like this
"In the year double M double X triple I". Loved that!
This one will be a classic … it’s so topical and funny as hell 😂 kudos to the writers on this sketch it’s an A+ and every actor in it was totally on point .. this is live sketch comedy at its very best .. and reminds me so much of really old SNL from the late 70’s !
Topical.
Everybody will have to remember there was a weird week one year where this was a thing. I don't see this being a classic because it's so specific to last week.
@@JamesEvans2023What happened last week?
@@UkeCan1I don't know about last week, but a few weeks ago, on a British game show, David Mitchell made a joke about the Roman Empire popping into his head several times a day. And maybe he got it from some show that transcends international borders, something every one is watching.

Most SNL sketches make me grin. I enjoy them very much. Some are better than others; of course, they make me chuckle. This sketch, like maybe two or three others in the course of a season, made me laugh out loud, so much so that my wife, from across the room, had to speak up. "What's so funny?" she asked. "An SNL sketch about Rome," I said. "Why is it so funny?" she asked. I didn't know what to tell her. Why IS it so funny? It's also not really about Rome, is it? All I know is, I nearly choked on my Sunday (2023-11-19) morning breakfast every time Ego smacked Jason Momoa across the face. Why was that funny? I don't know. But it was.
if SNL sketches make you grin, go watch SNL with Chris Kattan, Chris Farley, and Will Ferrel. today's SNL should make you cry
I enjoyed reading this comment.
As a woman who has been rewatching HBO's "Rome," I put myself in the guys heads, cause, you know, ancient history rules!

Every world history teacher is going to use this for the next twenty years. I say this as a world history teacher.
It's one of the best sketches on SnL for this year so far .
The music videos are some of the funniest things on the show. Remember "Boomers Got the Vax" and "Loco" during the pandemic? I think Chris Redd used to write most of these while he was on the show.

Man Jason Momoa looks so Good in that costume that he needs to find a Rome movie to make stat LoL 😅
Whoever came up with rhyming "Eternal City" with "sucking on a wolf's titty" is a goddamn comic genius.
The dinosaur obsession as a kid is so real lol. I remember after Jurassic Park came out, I walked around pretending to be a velociraptor for an embarrassingly long time. I even remember breaking the tops off of plastic clothing hangers and holding them between my toes to mimic that one big claw they had on each foot 😄🤦🏻♀️
... but enough about last week ...
Watched it 6 times in the theatre aged 13!
Wow this video really makes me think… about how Caesar was the first leader to have his picture minted on currency while still alive
Was he? I'm pretty sure the Hellenistic kingdoms did that.
Well, I'm gonna be comin back to this one for years. Definitely one of my all-time favorites. I wish it was an hour long.
Every time I hear Chloe's singing voice, it always blows me away, but hearing her rap a little at the end!? Now they need her in a rap song, please. We already know Punkie and Ego can rap, give Chloe some bars!
I hate comparing cast members, so I'll just say she's a great "replacement" for Cecily!! She's great, I can't wait to see her evolution on the show

@@t.brooks7602 You know, it is possible to compliment someone without bringing another down, or comparing them to others. And Chloe isn't a replacement, she's her own person. No one can replace Cecily.

Fun fact the script only had Ego slapping Jason one time but he was clearly into it and just had her keep doing it

As an Italian I cannot avoid thinking about Rome, especially because I live here 😂
Jason Momoa getting slapped in the face like 4 times while dressed as a Roman soldier was hilarious!
This is so good! It's nice to see some humor that references people's internal lives and not just their exterior roles in society. Plus I totally thought about dinosaurs all the time as a kid and regularly think about Rome and/or astrology more than I should as an adult, so this tracks.
