  • Honey Cone was an American R&B and soul all-girl vocal group, who are best remembered for their Billboard #1 hit single, "Want Ads". They were the premier female group for Hot Wax Records, operated by Holland-Dozier-Holland after they had departed from Motown Records.
Honey Cone was formed by lead singer Edna Wright (sister of Darlene Love) with Carolyn Willis and Shelly Clark in 1969. They were the newly created Hot Wax Records' first signing to the fledgling record label. The trio had previous musical experience with Willis, a member of Girlfriends, Clark an ex-member of the Ikettes, and Wright, a member of a gospel group the Cogics. Wright and Willis were also "part-time" members of Love's group The Blossoms.
Honey Cone and Hot Wax's debut single "While You're Out Looking for Sugar" peaked at #26 on Billboard's R&B chart, but the follow-up "Girls, It Ain't Easy," reached #8 on the same listing. Their third release "Want Ads" proved to be their biggest success, topping both the R&B and pop chart, selling over one million copies, awarded with a gold disc by the R.I.A.A. in May 1971. - wikipedia

I love how they are natural but still have on make up and are dancing and expressing emotions yet are classy and sexy and strong yet feminine. It was a great time to be part of the ADOS COMMUNITY. Everyone seem to understand the struggle and not out for quote "number one" ie their own selfish personal gain. There was a pride in being an "everyday people" Like the song by Sly and the family stone Sang. However there were also forces in play that would undermine all those COMMUNITY values mainly greed lack of education and all types of covert actions by the government to infiltrate and and undermine many of the community groups like the black panthers and the SCLC THE URBAN LEAGUE AND THE GENERAL TARGETING OF ADOS COMMUNITY WITH THE INFILTRATION OF DRUGS AND GANG VIOLENCE

Experience in love preferred, but will accept a young trainee....LOVE this old jam. My older sister played this on her 45 record player every day. Had me singing with her. Of course I was around 4 or 5 years old and only joined in the song with my fabulous "Extra! Extra! Read all about it". You couldn't tell me I wasn't a baby honeycone as my sister called me Lol!
Lord knows I miss being a child in the 70's...Life was great back then in D.C.

I am a white girl born in 1969 and I love this type and era of music this is actually the first time I have heard of this group but I love them. When I was little my fav songs were Freida Paynes Band of Gold,Betty Wright The Cleanup Woman anything by Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell and Rocking Robin by the Jackson Five and Bubbling Brown Sugar which I forgot who sang it.I was a white girl who grew up listening to all types of music Soul,R&B ,Do Wop,Elvis,Credence Clearwater Revival,James Brown etc. I appreciate that my parents exposed me to different types of music !

bridget cafarella ‘60 here . I haven’t heard this in a LOOONNNG time, but I still remembered quite a bit of the the words. And the Clean Up Woman! I remembered that for years! And is now on my iPod lol. That, in my opinion is is the greatest thing about these newfangled gadgets. Man, we can get some great tunes on them, can’t we? And still for the price of a 45👍.
