I think most photographers are very good at deciding how much they like someone else’s work. I find it isn’t hard - my first reaction to a photo is either I like it or I don’t. It’s definitely more complicated to judge the quality of your own photos. Thanks Hugh for breaking down how you evaluate your own work.

That’s very true Steve. Thank you for taking the time to feedback.

Loved this monochrome installment. I often think images lend themselves to the dark ages, but I would miss the rainbow of colours we’re blessed to experience if we only saw things in black and white. Thank you Hugh for your perspective and sharing your images

I totally agree! It’s great to have the choice when we really begin to look at what is in front of us.

Hi Hugh, any chance you could make a complete start to finish video? Camera, full camera settings, right through to how you edit please. Love everything about your images.

      Hi Chris
Yes! I’ll happily do that - might be quite long! I’ve a few things lined up but will get round to it. Very glad you like my images. Thanks so much.

Gorgeous images. Really enjoyed your reflections and thoughts on composition and what made the image. Well done.

I’m a sucker for colour of course, but love these…particularly the bird feeder one and the last one. Great contrasts and composition.

As a new subscriber I enjoy your tutorials. I like the high contrast aspect of your images. Since you shoot in color and convert to BW I would be interested in seeing how you process the BW, how you decide which direct to go etc. If you already have videos on the subject please direct me to them or I will look forward to new ones. Thanks.

Love your photography. Love your videos. Have you thought of giving the man in Tailor Shop a print?
I often feel like I’m taking or collecting scenes and it makes me feel good to give (back) - especially with prints.
I like how you explained your thinking with the individual images - how the raw color images became black and white for you.
Sending appreciation and support from Texas!

Thank you - I'm so glad you enjoyed these little offerings. I hadn't thought about taking the tailor a print - I may just do that.

Very good content especially about being discreet and not creepy.

I now shoot predominantly in b&w, although my camera also records RAW files. I seldom refer to the RAW files, except when the shot is so clearly about colour. For me, it is high contrast monochrome for at least 95% of my shots. This is a complete U turn on what I was doing 2 years ago.

It’s interesting how creativity and vision moves in cycles. I used to major far more in blacks and white - I just couldn’t get colour to work in ways I wanted it to.

Do you mostly shoot for black and white or do you take it as per each photo? The final image is a really interesting photo.

Thank you. If I am “fishing” or working a scene that I know will work in black and white then I will do that with a bnw image firmly in mind. If I am in “hunting” mode ie wandering and seeing what comes along, then I am more open minded. Sometimes there is a colour connection eg red hat, red bus, which means it would only work in colour.
