We wouldn’t have the fragrance we have today without ol Ed. What a legend and a genius. He practically invented modern perfumery. All these computer generated formulas that they just bang out for money is a travesty. We need to go back (and this is what a lot of niche brands are doing) to perfumer lead fragrance. Where the fragrance is about the fragrance and the experience. Not selling someone a 15 min top note force down the throats of blind sheep consumers. Perfumery is an art. Anyway now I’m rambling 🐏 great videos my guy as always.
I 100% agree with you of course mate... Roudnitska's genius is still influencing perfumers today... he still has some I have never even smelled like Moustache EDT 😱

I am impressed by your massive knowledge in Parfumery! Eau Sauvage is a timeless Classic imo. Recently I saw an interview with Richard Herpin who shared his love for Eau Sauvage and it seems he wears it on a daily basis. I would like to try the vintage version. Imo Dior did quite good reformulations under Demarchy. First try I didn t liked it, now I love my Eau Sauvage more and more. Compliment for your content. Chapeau!🎩
Soon after his death and long before I had an interest in perfume, I read an article in some French publication about Roudnitska and came away thinking, “thats a man with a terrible personality but a really great attitude for life and living and creating.” His inner positivity struck me. Original Diorama is one i still am chasing, my god she is beautiful... and expensive lol. Perhaps the most balanced and smooth chypre I've ever smelled. A perfect hybrid with the depth of Femme and the freshness of Diorella

But for some reason I hadn't clocked what Roudnitsksa's last fragrance was. I was happy enough with the one he made for his Wife. Recently I got Thé Brun by Jean Charles Brosseau and the parfumier is Pierre Bourdon, the opening is likened to the opening of Ocean Rain! I checked what the hell is this Ocean Rain, thinking it must be a Jacques Bogart cheapie. Only to discover it's by Roudnitsksa and it's his last fragrance release! Apparently it inspired Bourdon on Millesime Imperial too. Connections!

I just got a vintage Diorella from Anooj and tried it out today. The fresh salty melon note is fascinating, and I can detect cumin in the composition. Definitely bolder than Eau Sauvage, and I like it. Professor Ramsey, you are almost at 1K! Congrats 👏 Well deserved and much appreciated
I forgot that Roudnitska did Femme. I have the reform that Parfumo credits to Olivier Cresp and it's still decent. Definitely am a fan of Eau Sauvage edt, but never got around to owning a bottle because I already had the 2017 parfum. I think he did the original Moustache for Rochas too didn't he? No surprise it has that Eau Sauvage vibe.

And evidently it was Roudnitska himself that said Diorella was Eau Sauvage perfected. I need to try to find me a bottle of Diorella. And Pierre Bourdon does not like Kouros, his own creation. He thinks it is unrefined and beastly, just as I do. He said Chantal Roos at YSL made him make it that way. Also, I guess that Roudnitska, who advocated a limited note list, wouldn't like the approach taken by the perfumer of Turath by The Spirit of Dubai. It has 65 notes! Maybe not even Rodrigo Flores-Roux who tends to put a lot of notes in his compositions. Plus, cumin sucks. I don't like the idea of a fragrance imitating or reflecting "the bad side of life", or the dirty side of life. Perfumery should reflect the exalted. We take a shower and apply fragrance when we start smelling of body odor, not bottle it as cumin. Rodrigo Flores-Roux related a story of a conversation with his physicist father, believing his father wouldn't hold perfumers or perfumerery in high regard. "Oh contraire" said the father. "What you do is provide an antidote to the dirtiness of the real world. The real world is about death and decay, about entropy." Cumin is about decay. Lol. But, your videos, your knowledge and enthusiasm on old-school vintage perfumery is second to none on TH-cam.

Talking about classics, and your lack of love for Eau Sauvage. For me the classic that I cannot feel the love for is Habit Rouge. It's true that I have the edp and not the classic edt, they say there are differences. For me that is the real " lipsticky" fragrance and not Dior Homme. The combination between the citrus and that red note of waxy vanilla just rubs me the wrong way. Another great video. When you gonna do your top 100 I am going to write a longer comment with my top 10 explained
Next video .. probably tomorrow! I love habit rouge but only the EDT....i actually dont like the EDP either ... the vintage EDT is one of the best fragrances of all tike IMHO 🙃
I have issues with Habit Rouge as well, but not because its "lipsticky" (I don't like my lipsticky Dior Homme Intense too much either). "The masculinized Shalimar". I just don't think the composition works that well. Doesn't seem to come together into a harmonious whole, as if the notes are fighting with each other. I thought badically the same thing if Carlos Beniem's Frederic Malle Music for a While. But Habit Rouge has grown on me a bit and I've decided to respect it historically.

It's true that I have the edp and not the classic edt, they say there are differences. For me that is the real " lipsticky" fragrance and not Dior Homme. The combination between the citrus and that red note of waxy vanilla just rubs me the wrong way.

I love habit rouge but only the EDT....i actually dont like the EDP either ... the vintage EDT is one of the best fragrances of all tike IMHO 🙃
I have issues with Habit Rouge as well, but not because its "lipsticky" (I don't like my lipsticky Dior Homme Intense too much either). "The masculinized Shalimar". I just don't think the composition works that well. Doesn't seem to come together into a harmonious whole, as if the notes are fighting with each other. I thought badically the same thing if Carlos Beniem's Frederic Malle Music for a While. But Habit Rouge has grown on me a bit and I've decided to respect it historically.
