      They do have human traps run by a mouse. Disney properties. Shawn went to Disney land. He came back and built mouse paradise. Mickey controlled him.

    My next door neighbor when I was a kid left 2 gallon unwashed used cider bottles around his home. Even with no ramp, it was surprising how many mice he caught

    I use to use big mason jars. As well as the bait, I put a tablespoon of olive oil in there. They can't jump out, because they can't get any leverage on the oily glass.
    One time I saw one of the four mice that was in a jar in the morning, bounce out, he seemed to have got a launch off one of his mates. Didn't help him at all, as I had my Ginger Cat with me, and I didn't even have to say "Kill'm, Ginge".
    I often used to find a little pile of mousey tails and feets and ring-pieces next to the jar, and that was the Grey cat, she was fastidious at dinner time.

    I cought 2 mice with a SoBe bottle, peanut butter, and an inch of water. I set it up at night and when I checked in the morning I had 2 dead mice.

    I caught one in the grease drip bucket from my smoker. I am a bit lazy in emptying it frequently. Now... i clean it after every smoke, since the smell of rotting mouse and grease was not nice.

    Over the years ive found various random containers full of dead voles. Once a porcupine that kept chewing on my stuff decided to chew open an old car battery and eat a bunch of the lead salts from the inside. Sometimes they trap themselves. Not the squirrels though...

      i've getten red squirrels in my roller trap before. just need to make sure the liquid at the bottom is deep enough that they can't jump.

      i once saw a camel cricket eating my mom's cigarette ashes off of the kitchen floor (she didn't see the ashes because they were right next to a bottle of detergent or something similar -- it was a few years ago so i don't remember exactly what product was in the bottle)

    Big glass bowl (the size used to make bread) with a bout a cup of peanut oil in it. Yje mice get covered in the oil and then cant climb out.

    Living on a ranch in Alberta we had a couple extra houses for hired help and their families. They haven't been lived in for a while since we're out of the cattle business now so I have to check on them once in while. A few years ago I went into one and was greeted with a horrible stench. There was an old washer and top loading dryer in the entry and there must have been dozens of dead mice trapped in the dryer.

    You could drape the outside in netting or fabric to reduce footprint and allow mice to approach and climb in all directions.

    99% of catching mice is getting them to actually use the trap. In my experience mice just won't fall for it most of the time. I've used every diy trap out there and a few commercial ones and they just don't go for it. Reminds me of fishing actually.

    This happened to me many years ago. A bottle of oil (I've no idea how full it was) was accidentally left open over the winter at a summer cottage. The next spring the bottle was, literally, full of dead deer mice. Winters in NH are long and hard, and I guess the mice were desperate for the fat calories.

    Reminds me of a super simple and disgusting mouse trap I once saw. A huge stainless steel bowl about 30% full of peanut oil. The mice went in, attracted by the peanut smell, the slippery oil made it impossible for them to climb or jump, and they eventually drowned in the oil. It caught a ton of mice.

      Shawn tried a similar trap on this channel several years ago. The only difference was that the bowl he used was glass instead of steel. IIRC, he caught about a dozen mice in it in just one night. Since it was a one-night setup, all the mice caught were still alive and I believe Shawn cleaned the oil off them and kept them as pets.

    My dad used to place the old style 1 litre glass milk bottles at a 45 degree angle. The mouse would climb in and wouldn't have traction to climb out and it was to tight for them to jump.

    had a thin funnel (to add oil to my cars) and found a dead mouse caught in thin bottom section.
    also found one in a stack of trash cans at Home Depot... one way in; no way out.

    This happened to me when I left a bag of peanuts next to my cat tree. A mouse climbed up the cat tree, jumped into the bag, then couldn't get out. So I brought the whole bag to the patio and let him go.

      shawn always releases the native species, i personally think they trust him at this point.
      get caught eat a free meal and then get rescued the next day only to repeat it next time he finds a live trap to test

      If a mouse dies in there, you're not getting it out without a lot of trouble. Bucket traps work the same without the issue of difficult extraction.

      He has a video testing different baits. IIRC, cheese was a distant third, Tootsie Roll at #2, and mice absolutely flip for peanut butter (also peanut oil), which is likely why you always see him using it.

      I think mice in different areas prefer different kinds of bait. From what I've heard, the "mice like cheese" stereotype is actually true in much of Europe. In North America, the mice seem to prefer peanut butter.

    You will feel like a nicer person if you buy from Amazon a plastic little tunnel shaped safe trap whereby they don’t jump around all night because they only have three inches each on both sides of them. $12. I catch them then drive them to a distant park near the ocean with much grass which they like.
