Thanks. I have an Intermatic rc2000 controller for our pool and spa. The pneumatic switch for the light quit working after I replaced the pump. It sounds like there's water in the air line. There is air moving. Hate to break the switch to get it out but seems like it's not going to unscrew and will need to be replaced. Thanks for the demo.
I had to come back and say thanks, you helped me troubleshoot and fix my air switch for the therapy jets in my pool. Worst part was having to feed the tubing through the conduit. But it works!
Hi thanks for the video. I don’t have an air tube or switch at the spa. I do have a pvc pipe located behind the spa which is about 2” diameter. When I got to spa mode and my spa jets turn on water comes out of that pipe. Can you provide any ideas of why that is? I have tried everything. Thanks
That air supply style with the 2” pipe feeds air to the spa return pipes by gathering the air circulating around that 2” pipe that typically is located behind spa. It’s works similar to the air buttons located on top of the coping surrounding the deck. It draws in the surrounding air from the 2” pipe and feeds into and mixes with the water. What things are you trying to do?
I adjusted valves. Blew out lines with shop vac. When I tool jets off I got some bubbles and water stopped coming from pipe. Still low pressure. Think may have a blockage in a jet?
Check your filter!! If you have a cartridge filter, Take filter out and run pool without the filter cartridge inside tank( run tank empty). If you have any other type of filter media, D.E. Either backwash filter or Perform a internal cleaning and recharge with powder, Sand backwash filter or possibly depending on age of media, change sand out for new sand.
Once you’ve ensured filtration is proper and media is clean, note the starting max working PSI of filter. This is to rule out back pressure from a dirty, clog, old filter not allowing for proper pressure.
Well done video but I have another air button problem. Water is accumulating on the ground at the base of the air tube conduit that runs vertically to the wall panel that contains the air switch. I have no idea how water would enter the air tube??
Water will accumulate inside the conduit pvc from any rains that may have fallen inside pvc, This is normal. What you do want to make sure of is that conduit pipe is approximately higher than the spa coping. What you can do once this is done to prevent or minimize the water accumulation would be to inject some type of rubberized compound or foam from a spray bottle into the conduit opening (of course with the tubing still coming out of it) and fill just enough for about 1” inside the conduit pvc. The conduit pvc is not connected to any water source from the spa what so ever. It’s merely a pathway to run the flexible air tubing through it. Sometimes the plumbing person running those pvc don’t glue the joints or the pvc could have a hair line fracture allowing underground water to enter. Not to be alarmed with water inside.
No water should be present. That water can go up through the tube and damage the electrical switch that the tube connects to. Remove the tube from both ends. Get a bicycle pump and pump out the condensation.
The air hose I have has become detached and fell back down the hole. I don't know what to do. Do I have to pull up the in ground spa to reattach the hose???
I am having pool problems. My pool tech told me to get a #4 button, said the old one had "nothing left in it" whatever that means. The only way I can get the system to run with a new motor is to go spa side, and blow into the tube. It doesnt take much, but is the only way as the new button does not activate the blower. Watching your video, I am thinking the switch in the box. So, checking that since pool tech doesn't seem interested. Thx. I'll let you know how it turns out.
If you manually blow into the flexible tubing and the spa control box activated turning ON motor, then there’s not issue in the control box it may be the button or the way it’s being installed
@@EliteSwimmingPoolsTV, thank you. The button can only be installed one way. Attach the tubing, and I taped it with electric tape, and screwed it into the pre-existing place. The button is brand new.
The air button was the first item we noticed failed. Client was having issues with the button sticking once pressed. After button replacement is when we found air switch malfunction. The switches don’t fail often but they do fail and it’s like everything else, process of elimination. Once one thing is fixed you may find another. Thanks for commenting and watching us. @@EliteSwimmingPoolsTV I get the "process of elimination". I have had a pool tech come over, doesn't seem interested in fixing it. The box is nothing more than an on/switch. The blower system consists of a button, tubing, and the on/off switch. If the button is bad, and is replaced, all should work. When it doesn't, the air switch is checked, but if it comes on by blowing air into the tubing, is the only way for it to work, that tells either, 1. A brand new button is bad, or 2. The switch is bad, or some other component in the box is bad.
Looks like multiple problems, which your are discovering as you repair it in sequence. Any way to assess the problem before just starting with the most distant (to the air switch) repair?
Well this was a new client / pool for us at the time of the video and the broken/damaged air button was the blatant item needing replacement. First the button needs to be present for the client to be able to use spa side anyways. Some times the button is all that is needed and what I found mostly is previous owners neglect the small things because they personally don’t use a certain feature.
Nice vid man! But am still confused as to where the tube runs to. Does that tube have branches that connect to each of the return jets in the wall? And where does the air come from on the supply side..from a blower? I"m confused.
This specific type of spa is designed as the following: the spa pvc pipes have a water supply coming from the pool equipment to the spa (Spa Return Jets). The air (bubbles) comes from air buttons (air buttons is a screwed pvc tube with holes that when opened allows air from around the button to enter the water supply line and create the bubble effect). These air button are located on top of the spa coping, these buttons screw into a pvc pipe which goes down through the inner concrete walls of the spa and connects to the water supply line. The mushroom button is a device of compressed air which when pressed it pushes air through the plastic flexible tubing all the way to the spa electronic equipment. As shown in the video, the tubing is connected to the relay. When the air is pushed into the relay, the relay activates and the circuit is closed allowing the electricity the pass through. This spa electronic equipment basically activated two electronic valves which rotate and puts the pool into Spa Mode. Spa mode is when the pool pump sucks water only from the spa main drain and returns to the spa. Pool side is completely off. This air button control system only activated the automatic electronic valves and places the pool into Spa mode. The air buttons on spa coping have to be manually unscrewed and opened for air induction. The flexible tubing runs under ground through a pvc conduit pipe from spa to pool equipment area. Mushroom button pushes the air. Tubing carries the air to the spa electronic relay. Relay activates automatic valves to put pool into spa mode. In this video, this spa setup is an old design concept and no longer constructed. Some other spas designs have a physical Air Blower which induces air through a 2” pvc pipe. The 2” air pipe runs from pool equipment area is connected to water supply line of spa. Hope this clarifies it for you.

Sell an automation system that can automate all equipment when client wants to use them. This is the easiest and most convenient way for clients to operate any piece of equipment with any mobile device. If they can’t afford automation, then either they will have to manually go to blower and flip a switch or I think you can use the FF1094 from Len Gordon to operate a blower with a mushroom button. I will say that this Len Gordon device is a Dual circuit 4 function electrical equipment that is designed to be paired with a Booster pump and Blower. It has four functions, with each press of the Mushroom button it turns ON the (1) booster pump, (2) turns ON Blower, (3) turns OFF Blower, (4) turns OFF Booster pump. If your not designing with a booster pump this may not be what you need. Again Automation is the best way, it will control all pool equipment on the pad and control the automatic actuator valves for Spa Mode all in one unit. Push for this and you will be happy.
Not going with automation your going to have to buy many pieces of electronic devices and pair them together with multiple air lines and electrical work. With automation, no air is needed no mushroom buttons or external electrical devices. Faster and easier set up

should have been more prepared before filming to have all the necessary parts at time of filming or at least have the final repair added at the end so we could see the hot tub fired up. As a homeowner I would be upset if you had to come back for a second trip, maybe you didn’t have your parts truck with you. I would have explained the situation for the repair call so why didn’t you plan ahead and have all the parts as a matter of good measure.
Oh joe, as a technician being called out to a job site for a specific type of repair. On the repair order (RO) we are contracted to come out and repair that specific item approved by the customer. As a technician visiting a home for the first time, there’s no way for anyone to know in advance they will be needing to another part that is or is not associated with approved job. As a technician, in the event a newly discovered issue presents itself, a second trip is acceptable to most, maybe not for yourself. So if I may ask you a question, Should I purchase every single part ever made for all equipment / components ever manufactured for the pool industry and carry it in a single truck? That’s not realistic to know that the electronic panel was going to have a bad component, when the client wanted us to only replace the air button for the spa. Come on Joe, ease up a bit buddy. You’ll have to fish a new hose line through conduit. Get a fishing reel & snake it through. Attach new hose to end and pull back through.
And the silicon is applied to the base of the switch at the face of the hot tub, I suppose ...???
