YESSS the vocaloid golden age! so many good songs came out of this timeframe. i really hope you react to modern vocaloid sometime, too! the newer stuff is absolutely insane, producers like giga, pinocchoP, kira, and so many more are absolutely crushing it in the voca scene rn, and neru's more recent work gets rid of the heavy guitar (i loved the guitar tho lol), and now he has a very different, original, and distinct style (tho idk which genre it would count as).

In all actuality, it's like Neru and Kikuo are tied together, when one descends into sadness, the other grows in joy, at least their veils do. Kikuo's music plummeted in happiness and seems more like what a person with dementia would feel now, while Neru's been adapting the old joyful, yet veiled music of Kikuo
the original voice provider for SeeU is former member Dahee of the Kpop girl group GLAM. they were under BTS’ label but disbanded after her and a korean model blackmailed some actor and got arrested. just some fun facts lmao

fun fact, last i heard she's now earning a living as a broadcast jockey (also known as BJs), which are a type of korean streamers.
Fun fact many people suspect the resson why bighit ( bts's label which is now called hybe ) didn't debut another girl group after glam is because of the scandals in fact it's only been last year where they've finally debuted a girl group almost 10 years after glam's disbandment.
But what's crazy was before these girls got to debut one of the members we're in a bullying scandal

there are some english vocaloid songs that are good to look at like appetite of a people pleaser, copycat, karma, crusher p's again, jubyphonic's covers, they're all really good imo

I agree with most of what you said... But I really hate Jubyphonic because of how auto tuned it is, you can hear the auto tune and it throws off my vibe tbh

Jubyphonoc's autotune hurts my ears. It's not even her voice. I'm convinced that if she sang without the effects she put on she's actually sound better...

tysm for including momocashew’s tarantula none of my friends that listened to vocaloid know who she is or any of her songs, i’ve always loved her work and found her songs beautiful (mainly sound wise) as well as her music w her own voice. imo she’s underrated

Edit: added another couple of things that I forgot
24:42 im a Iron maiden fan, and I dont agree. The tone in The tropper is heavier and darker, while in Lost One no Goukoku it is louder and more thunderous. In the tropper the bass and drums play a more supportive role to make the guitar shine, while in Neru's song they chose to make it sound more chaotic. The first notes that are the only ones that can be compared are not even the same. At most you can say that it reminded you of the other song.

gigantic otn is actually in this one at 23:00 ! as for the others i really can't say if i'll do more of this but i appreciate the suggestions either way (i've actually listened to sand planet on my own time and liked it! tobideer also told me about the context behind it which i thought made it pretty funny that it is so popular)

So, what do you think of Vocaloid and the way it's used to make songs?
this is actually a really cool question i haven't been asked yet, and while i don't think i have heard enough yet to give a really well informed or interesting answer, i think in practical terms the way people use vocaloid is pretty grounded. once you get past the novelty of the technology, it really is just another tool to use in the music making process, and i personally think the more options artists have access to the better.
i dont know if there's any debate over using vocal synths or live recorded vocals but if there is i think it would be silly to try and make one out to be better than the other, there's a lot to both of them and they allow for really different approaches, and imo there's no need to make vocal synths sound indistinguishable from live vocals, that would kinda rob vocal synths of the differences that makes them unique and sometimes more interesting to use. bit of a sidenote but i think it's super neat to consider how when you use a vocaloid for a song, you sort of gain access to so much context and character through a voicebank's identity, i can imagine it feeling like collaborating with another person even at a conceptual stage.

tobi and i have spoken about doing more (this is our second video btw, we covered older classics earlier this year), but i do need to emphasize that this type of stuff isnt what i typically make (i'm mostly just a gaming streamer really), and if we do make more reaction videos like these i'd like to move away as soon as possible from using "classics" or songs that are already popular, and start showcasing lesser known producers. as interesting as it is to learn about the scene and everything i've been missing out on, it also feels a bit cheap to me to just keep using it as clickbait. highlighting less popular songs i think would feel like i'd be giving something back in way.

i was already too familiar with mitchie m before going into this, (always been a big fan of ai dee and before i heard グリグリッチ, his album virtual pop star was my favourite (and only) vocaloid album i'd heard the whole way through) so we excluded him
