My man, vocaloids are the gateway to a huge genre of music in Asia. Many of them (the creators) do become full-fledge producers and even sing their own creations (yes it’s humanly possible).
These Singers are then called Utaites!
I suggest you look into them (mafumafu, soraru, amatsuki, nqrse) because they are insanely talented since they do covers and write their own songs.

If you listen to more then I definitely recommend the song Rolling Girl. It was one of the first vocaloid songs I ever listened too. Though I will warn you the lyrics do talk about bullying and harassment, and the end sort of implies committing unalive.

I absolutely adore GHOST, a lot of their music is darker- And some of the songs are actually a way of them dealing/coping with things that have happened in their life. As their lyrics are a bit dark, I would love to see you more so focus on their songs. I always say there are three kinds of Vocaloid songs, the Cheery upbeat ones, The 'oh this sounds nice' but looking at the lyrics reveals something sinister, and finally The More Dark/ Unsettling songs. I love how different the songs can be. Another Vocaloid artist that's similar to GHOST is
    R.I.P
The Medical Anomaly, Pyrite Girl, and CORROSION
are my favorites by them. I also recommend some more GHOST songs,
Appetite of a People Pleaser, The Distortionist, and Honey Im Home, and Two of a Kind.

I also recommend Giga's and Kira's songs too as they are sooooo good! IT'S MY TIME TO SHINE!
A little background. Ive been an avid fan of Vocaloid for many years. Starting out as a scene kid thing and growing into the passion of the meanings in each song and how each individual artist portrays and rigs their vocaloids.
Wowaka is one of the MOST memorable Vocaloid artists out there.
His music portrays themes of highschool distress, accidental teen motherhood and depression as a whole.
The reason he is so famous is because of his wild productions.
As someone once put it, Wowaka makes chaos meet harmony.
I couldn't explain to you in words his music, you just have to listen.
    The most famous being
    -Rolling Girl
    -Unknown Mother Goose
    -Unhappy Refrain
Unfortunately, we lost him on April 5th, 2019.
He died at the age of 31 due to heart failure.
Even with his loss, a lot of Vocaloid fans listen and enjoy his works today
    Rest peacefully Wowaka 🖤

Minor correction, Servant of Evil is part of the Daughter of Evil series and is part of the Evillious Chronicles franchise. Allen sacrificing himself for Riliane in that song is so sad and even more so in the books where Ney killed his crush Michaela and the part where Allen had to kill his adoptive father Leonhart.

On the topic of Japanese songs, i highly recommend giving BABYMETAL a try. Yes, it is metal and no, there are no actual babies. They are (originally) a group of 3 Japanese girls and a metal band and their music is a combination of kawaii pop and hard metal. The songs are amazing!! Or very surprising. For more up beat and happily sounding songs, I recommend Gimme Chocolate, Catch me if you can, KARATE is uplifting and line! which is like a 2010 experimental song. A very huge positive thing about babymetal is that even many of the most hot metal heads love these girls.

I HIGHKEY recommend a song called "The Medical Anomaly" by RIP!
It also uses Oliver, but it's probably the most impressive usage of him I've ever heard. Oliver was originally designed for choir type stuff where you would need a high pitched young boy to sing formal sounding songs, but people in the fandom tend to make him sing pop songs and stuff without bothering to adjust his tone so that he sounds less 'choiry', i guess? But RIP managed to make him sing something out of his recommended genre without making him too high pitched and soft like everyone else does, and it works SO well.

Just gonna throw out here that if you want to listen to an interesting voice, look for songs featuring Kaai Yuki. Inabakumori is a producer who mainly uses her and their songs are amazing. The interesting thing about Yuki's voice is that it was recorded by an elementary school child (fourth grade, so probably 9 years old at the time). Yuki and Oliver are the only Vocaloids who's voices come from children instead of adults and in my opinion you can truly hear the difference. Yuki has a definitely childish voice, but at the same time quite mellow. You should check out "Pascal Beats", "Lagtrain" and "An image in the making", all by inabakumori.

great video, i'm glad you're enjoying what vocaloid producers have to offer! one thing i want to note is that a lot of vocaloid songs are heavily story-focused, such as the daughter of evil and servant of evil songs by mothy(which i heavily recommend, along with the other songs in that series), and you might want to watch those with subtitles where possible, if you have any interest in following the stories or meanings of such songs.

    I highly recommend Evillious Chronicles
It's a series of vocaloid songs and they all connect and form a huge(and quite confusing) story, the songs are catchy as well while narrating the story
There's also great vocaloid songs from Neru, Dasu, Steampianist, Kira, etc.
(there were too many so I can't mention them all xd)

Finally came across this lovely reaction! If you love Vocaloids so much, I have some recommendations (make sure to find English or subtitled versions; story is important):
    - The Evillious Chronicles (or, if that's too much, the Daughter of Evil subseries is probably a good start, and many versions exist) by various vocaloids
    - the ∞nighT series by various vocaloids
    - Paper Plane by Kagamine Rin&Len
    - The Flames of Yellow Phosphorus by Kagamine Rin
warning - many of these are emotional

Oliver is often used for creepier songs, because he is an older vocaloid - so not so smooth as the new ones, and his design often features him with a bandaged over eye - and something about a little boy who is injured and secluded often drives him to be used for spookier songs!

I recommend wowaka, hachi, hachioji-p, mothy, and supercell(ryo) as a great smash course in some of the greats. The best thing about vocaloid is the insane diversity and variety in tones and styles from producer to producer, and that as much as it can be cute, it also offers an "anonymous" way for a music creator to vent traumas or dark stories in their music without being the face of that, leading to the spectrum of this hyper dark horror vocaloid and the jpop cute and sweet or just upbeat and fun vocaloid songs. You truly never know what you'll get. I personally love Hachi the most as a vocaloid producer and I think you'll ADORE the instrumentation of their music.
Hachi reccs: Panda Hero, Matryoshka, Rasetsu to Mukuro, room 305, Lynne

some extras just because i did recommend them on the server awhile back too
    kikuo!!!!
hole dwelling, corpse dance, Gomennne Gomennne, moon demon, all of these songs are amazing and i think you would enjoy the production choices of them all :D though warning for the lyrical content corpse dance and Gomennne Gomennne have some really messed up lyrics if you really pay attention to them

    Getcha! by Giga and Kira
    Ready Steady by Giga
    Villain by Teniwoha
    Goodbye Declaration by Chinozo
    Bitter Chocolate Decoration by Syudou
    KING by Kanaria

Every time you make a comment about Viva Happy being peppy and forcing you to be happy my only thought is "yup that's Michie M", whenever it's WONDERFUL OPPERTUNITY being fast and erratic i just think "Yup, that's just them", whenever it's about GHOST being creepy and unnerving and robotic my brain just says "It's a ghost song, what do you expect", I hd to keep reminding myself you had come in with not expectations for their styles!
I love listening to people react to vocaloid blind for that very reason though, it's so great to see people experience something I love for the first time. For me, if someone reccomends me a song from one of the prolific or popular channels, I know what to expect, but newcomers like you only really have the thumbnail of the song and the title to judge by, and those often are misleading! The surprise is just so fun to see ww

Vocaloid works so if you wanna make the word* asa you'll get a singer to sing "#a, a-s s-a, a" and you make a library out of all possible sounds and combinations. Like fragments!
They then preserve the timbre by adding in autotune or whatever they think is needed to sound consistent between takes, since different takes might sound different to others. That's why vocaloid as default sounds very robotic but in a smooth way. It has to be because otherwise it'll sound very very robotic like John L. Kelly's voice synth sample that sang "bicycle built for two" in 1962

I suggest that in your next vocaloid video (if you ever plan on doing another one) you listen to Corpse Dance by Kikuo! It's a very *very* VERY dark song tho, but from what I've heard you can find worse on Kikuo's channel! It features Hatsune Miku and it's got gorgeus violin in it. :) I also recommend you search the trigger warnings for the song.

n-buna (currently in a band known as yorushika! their music is also great) - sea lily deep sea tale, first train and kafka, transparent elegy
hachi (also known as kenshi yonezu, he does his own music now without vocaloid) - dune, donut hole (THESE ARE CLASSICS), vivi
neru - lost one's weeping (classic)
wowaka - i don't listen to a lot of his music but we all know that rolling girl is a classic. it made me bawl my eyes out.
keina suda (balloon) - he makes self covers of his songs but most notable: veil, lead, charles (i think one of his songs was an anime opening?)
im not suggesting artists that are less well known because you know heehoo. but! there are a lot of japanese artists and bands! i would suggest amazarashi, yorushika, mafumafu, kenshi yonezu, eve, shinsei kamattechan, asian kung fu generation, kami-sama i have noticed
