FELLAS THE OIL USED AT THE AMSOIL CHANGE WAS 5W20 NOT 5w30 so the shear was not as bad as suspected But was still not as good as Penzoil Platinum which did better under heat testing And mobil the same way it did jot do as good under heat testing PPU - was right in spec
Hey, highly respect this channel! I am not faulting you and I don't think anyone is. it's good to be clear for those who didn't see, but it's the not the end of the world. You can always test the 5w-30 later.
@@blacklilac1408 I really don't take fault on this channel because I'm putting my money on the line my neck online my time on the line so if I make a mistake I make a mistake that's just how it is this there's nobody else out there really doing that other than a handful of people Edit: I see what you mean now
The range for 5w20 viscosity @ 100C is 5.60 to 9.29, the amsoil scored 8.52, very high in the upper range of correct oil grade. While pennzoil was 9.74 in a 9.1 to 11.3 range, closer to the lower end. And heavier oil also has a higher flashpoint, but I do believe pennzoil has a higher flashpoint which is great for high performance hot engines. So by the results with different weights, the amsoil actually seems better imho for the average vehicle, but def not cost wise.
@@daryllmroberts7958Motul works perfectly fine. Definitely not as good base stock, but still good quality. Compare the lab results of both and check out the difference in TBN, which is indicates base oil quality. Nothing really compares to Amsoil in that department. They start with a fantastic base.
Certainly put a damper in the phrase I've heard so many times, "Oil is oil"! Base stock, yes, but the additives are what make the difference. Appreciate you taking the time to do these sorts of informative videos! Sorry for your loss, take time to remember the good memories.
Gayle Banks was able to tour the Amsoil facility. He did a 4 or 5 part series. Explaining all the numbers and how engine oil is made. You should check it out. Amsoil doesn't just make an oil to meet the standards. They exceed them.
Been using Pennzoil platinum high mileage full synthetic 5w 30 on my 2004 Ford F-150 for years. I did notice when I first switched from Mobil 1 to Pennzoil my truck went quieter and runs smoother. I've been very satisfied with Pennzoil.
I have a 99 f150 with 238k miles, I've been running Mobile 1 for a very long time. Since watching his videos in addition to your comment, I'm seriously considering trying out Pennzoil Platinum.
My wife’s 2004 Lexus RX330 (255K miles) used to burn a quart of oil between oil changes when using Mobil 1. When I switched over to Pennzoil Ultra Synthetic High Milage, she hasn’t burned a single drop and gets a couple more miles to the gallon than before. For me this is the best bang for your buck oil out there. Hands down.
Did you try mobil 1 high mileage before changing to pennzoil ultra high mileage?...my truck uses less m1 hm than regular m1....guess the seal conditioners...hm is no longer thicker...its the same as regular oil now.
Sorry for your family's loss, Rich! I typically use Valvoline MaxLife oil in my vehicle, but may be giving the Penzoil Platinum Ultra a try in the near future. Nice sample comparisons!
Penzoils natural gas marketing stuff really got to me a long time ago when it was new. Then it got cheaper (i pay $22 for 5 qts). And then I started hearing about race teams and manufacturers using it. Good stuff.
We routinely did SOAP sampling on engines and gearboxes when I was in the Air Force (Spetrometric Oil Analysis Program). We had one engine on an H-53 "make oil", as it was overflowing the reservoir in the cabin. (Used to pump up replenishment oil in flight). No one really had a clue as to where the extra oil was coming from so it was ignored 2-3 months. Pre and postflight inspections are done with cue cards in hand, so when the card said check to see that reservoir was full...yeah, it was full. Waddaya expect from an 18yo airman 6 months out of high school. Somebody finally decided to take an oil sample and found that it was 99% jet fuel with a dash of engine lube. Turned out that a seal between the fuel control mounted on the engine, via the quill shaft that drove the fuel control from the geartrain internal to the engine was allowing high(er) pressure fuel to migrate into the oil system. Even tho the engine was running normally and metals were within limits, the engine was pulled. You might remember, the old school automotive fuel pumps mounted on the engine block would sometimes rip a diaphram and allow gasoline to go into the oil pan.
I am slowly switching everything over to Pennzoil products. Shell Rotella gas truck is made by the same company but is getting harder to find. Thanks for these results.
Haven’t been keeping up with you lately, sorry to hear about your uncle. Your testing so far has made me a Penzoil ultra platinum customer from mobile 1. Have had the same engine quietness you’ve experience also. God’s blessings on you and your family.
Sorry for your loss . Just did my 20k change with Amsoil couldn't get the filters so went with the Fram you use i change it at 10k. that's all i will say. Thanks for the video ,I still use your flood method to start after it sets for the weekend.thanks for showing me that.
Great oil analysis comparisons! Thanks for doing this! I like Pennzoil Platinum, my engine seems a little quieter and I get good oil analysis results. 🙏For you and your family.
Friend said when they first tested Synthetic on piston airplane engines which you never got half life out of a camshaft, and on overall they noted the engine had no wear, not even worn cross hatches. They could essentally keep going, they stopped its use though as they couldnt get a sludge issue he thinks sorted given they arent swapping the oil often enough. Other place was in motorcycle cases. he and a friend had identical Kawi's . One swapped to Amzoil and they went for a blast, The Amzoil bike;s case was 40 degrees cooler. SOLD immediatly
Sorry about your uncle. I assumed you were on vacation. Prayers from my family to yours. Oh, and thanks for the test results. While I intend on allowing Ford to deal with my truck this is very interesting to me. Have a great day!
I had the same experience w/ Pennzoil. I switched from Mobil 1 and immediately noticed a smoother running engine. But its nice to hear someone with much more knowledge than myself validate & agree with what I experienced as well.To me there will always be pros and cons when comparing any two given products.Amsoil has its high points and lows as well as any other oil.But for me,,,Ill stick to 3,000 mile oil changes and stay with Pennzoil Ultra.I also use Napa Platinum oil filters.I use magnets on the filter and the pan drain plug and so far have never found ferris particles. And my Blackstone reports always come back saying lots of life still left in the oil.Enjoyed watching and learning and as always great vid.My condolences to you and your family.Have a safe travel home.
Pennzoil Platinum Ultra has a really great base with less need to add moly. At least according to the study I saw done. It's pretty interesting. I've used Mobile One for years, but I'm probably going to switch with the next oil change.
I run Pennzoil on my personal cars, my wife runs Amsoil on her cars. I can get twice the product for less than she pays in equivalent amount of product. However we still do 5k or 6mth whichever comes first on the OCI. Great video as always, I'm looking forward to the Mobil 1 with 5k miles and a frame filter this time on the results. Keep it up!
Condolences first to you and your family. I've been happy with your suggestions on the Fram Ultra Guard filter, I will go with the Penzoil next oil change. 2015 Mazda 3 2.5l DI gas engine 63k miles. On Valvoline Advanced Synthetic right now doing 3k OIC. Engine runs so much smoother and quiet with the 3k intervals. Was doing 5k since purchase, but $35 every 4 months to extend my engine's life...priceless. The only noise or peeve is the HPfuel pump on the cam gear for the direct injection, it's not loud, just irritating.
I'll always support your channel no matter what is going on In your life You have been very helpful to me on my 67 diesel The least I can do is always Give you a thumbs up and I watch all of your videos Is there good luck
I guess it all depends what side of the isle you're on, been running Amsoil for years, in Harley D's to all my cars, when independents conducted the roller bearing, test, heat test, cold test, Amsoil shinned, so in closing like I said in the beginning depends what side of the isle you're on, I just bought a brand new Scat Pack, & the temps when Amsoil was added, down by 6% which means heat less friction, nothing but ++++'s for Amsoil, I live in Central Florida, all my biker friends, Ams, & vehicles also. Why did the military switch to Amsoil, because it is the best!!
The problem is people start running an oil and they love it and there's nothing wrong with that and it works for them and then they tell everybody else oh it's the best it's the best and it's not they just have a bias and they want everybody else to believe they're bias but then you run across some guy like me that actually does physical testing on stuff that can show you what you're bias is to you should not be everybody else's reality
And when you speak about independent testing there's not a lot of independent testing there's a couple guys on TH-cam that have done some stuff and maybe a couple labs and that's it there's been no extensive testing done on Amsoil through independent testing like you said
@@FordBossMeAnd all of the folks doing the testing sell the product... That is one issue I have always had with Amsoil, the zealotry from the dealer network. Always reminds me of Amway, who had some great products, but the cost of entry was more than I could ever personally bear.
Condolences to you and your family, and safe travels on the way home. Darnit, now I guess I'll switch to Pennzoil ultra platinum from Amsoil SS, because I truely trust your judgement, and the price difference will help a bunch. Thanks again!
Amsoil Signature Series oil is their Top of the line oil with extended drain capability with their oil filter up to 25,000 mile. Have been to their production plant and seen the whole process, quite Amazing. They also do severe, extended testing in their own onsite labs.
I’ve done oil analysis on Amsoil after 20,000 miles on a 152,000 mile engine. It showed “good for continued use”. My buddy did oil analysis after 33,000 miles on his 25,000 mile Amsoil. It still had very minimal oil life left with no red flags
@@FordBossMe There’s nothing wrong with changing oil more often. I’ve been using Amsoil since 1993 with excellent results. I only mention my analysis results as a way to show that price isn’t a negative for Amsoil. I wouldn’t use it without extended intervals like this. That 152,000 mile Jeep had engine compression at the very high end of acceptable per the Haynes manual. I never had to add oil except at the 10,000-12,000 mile mark when I changed the filter
I do use amsoil in my 01 frontier. never did any oil analysis. bought it with 59K miles and started running amsoil 5w-30. had no engine issues at all until the 330K mark. I consider it the best. BUT, it should be since the wholesale price is something like $16 quart retail. it gets expensive if your engine starts USING TO MUCH OIL.
Amsoil is one of those oils that just work well. I wouldn't run anything longer than 5,000 miles with anything other than Amsoil. Great stuff and cheaper in the long run. You know who tells you to change your oil more often than needed? Oil changers, that's who.
@@wasatchm it is not that expensive. at least not as expensive as you’re saying. I just paid $11.89 a quart 10 W 30 signature series. that’s with tax. I guess you could say that’s expensive compared to many other oils, but I only drive about 4500 miles a year so I only do an annual oil Change.
Thank you for the info. Getting ready to do an oil change on my flex for the first time since the dealer complimentary oil changes have ended. This info is very valuable to me
In my 4 vehicles (Ford,BMW and Porsche's) all are running the K&N Air Filter (factory oiling intact) and none of my tests have shows concerning Silicon readings. The highest was my Fusion Sport 2.7L at 11PPM and after driving 5000 miles. While I truly respect your knowledge and appreciate your ongoing efforts to inform us all. I do wonder if your air filter has a defective seal or some other matter to give such a reading?
Sorry to hear about your uncle, FYI you’re the best channel out there for doing oil analysis and explaining in details and giving your honest opinion, much appreciated and thank you for the extra effort you put in each content👍🏼 , im a huge fan of penzzoil ultra platinum btw
Boss, good info. I"m currently running a mix of Valvoline 5w-20 conventional and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in my 1998 Ford ZX2 (oil change was the Valvoline then had to add a quart of the Pennzoil Ultra after 2000 miles) and that Ford motor purrs like never before. I've had it since 2003 (103,000 miles at that time and now it has 203,000 miles on it now and still gets 33 mpg.
Thanks for review. Pennzoil Ultra platinum and a good filter has been the best combo in my 5.4 3V hands down. The Edge tuner backs it up. Numbers don’t lie. Hardest part is convincing the “old school” guys it’s not the old Pennzoil…..and they just refuse to listen
Hmmmm, I've been running Amsoil Signature in my 2017 Hemi Ram 1500, since I bought it 3 1/2 years ago, with 24k on it, have loved it, engine runs and definitely starts better, none of that dry lifter tapping on the cold starts, just runs nice and smooth, but like most that might argue, the price point, sure I get it a little cheaper, but still had to purchase the membership to do that, for considerably cheaper and the same protection, might have to give Pennzoil a try, thanks for the info, man, keep up the great work. Oh, and my Hemi does have flood mode :) :) thanks for that as well. Sorry for your loss, sir.
@@davileett1224 Are you comparing the Amsoil numbers with member pricing? That makes a big difference. But yeah, I could do 2 oil changes with Penn Ultra to Amsoil 1, thats using Signature, you can get the lower grade oils that would be cheaper too. Me personally, I just like how Amsoil works in my Hemi better, runs better sounds better and has better oil pressure, I've sent both oils for testing and it tests better. I only put about 6 -7 k miles a year on my truck, so 85.00 for one oil change of Amsoil Signature a year, is worth it to me :)
@@matthewwatson572 Yes, I am comparing prices with member pricing, which isn't free either. 8 jugs is $191 vs $346 pre tax. What is the largest differences in the testing? I am not going to deny that Amsoil is better by a slight margin, but with a 50% price difference I cannot seem to pull the trigger on buying Amsoil.
@@davileett1224 Yeah, I'm hardly bashing Penn Ultra either, it's a great oil, I mean heck, the Hellcats come from the factory with it in them. My testing numbers were slightly better on the metals and flashpoint, but the Pennz was still within the good rating. For me, it's more how my engine is responding and acting, it just sounds better idling, no lifter tap on startup and better oil pressure at idle, so that's why I did stay with the Amsoil, trying to beat the odds of that dang lifter/cam issue, some of these Hemi's have. To be honest, if my engine sounded and did as good with Pennz, Royal Purple or even Mobil 1, yes, I've tried them all, lol, I'd go with one of them, I'm not one of those Amsoil fanboys, lol, yes, it's more, but in the grand scheme of motor work, still cheap :)
@@matthewwatson572 yeah, I tried to convince myself to get some Amsoil, I guess I am just too cheap as I do short oil change intervals anyway. I inherited a truck from my dad and just did the first oil change since owning it. Come to find out he had paid $100 for the guy to not even change the oil and break the plug seal at 5k miles. Luckily I changed early at 7500 for peace of mind. Still pissed break in oil went that long.
You know you're a car guy when oil sample analysis is exciting! I can't wait to see the royal purple results as my buddy swears by it, he runs it in his 99 and 01 4.6l mustangs as well as his 06 Lincoln town car. So after you try the different oils are you going to try them with different premium filter brands? I get the idea that some of these high end filters are hyped up and don't provide the performance they advertise. You are right though that Pennzoil platinum is pretty good stuff
Just remember there is a difference between pennzoil platinum and ultra platinum. Been running the cheaper regular platinum for 6 years in my v6 Rav4 and it has been great, doesn't burn a drop. Change every 5k.
been using pennzoil ultra for a while now and i love the stuff. Tundra loves it. and its reasonably priced and easy to get. might give amsoil a try idk yet. 140 dollars for oil seems steep since i also do 5k oil changes
Switched to the Ultra Plat. or Platinum for the last two years and i couldn't be happier. '14 F150 3.5 ecoboost has gotten better gas mileage and runs so much smoother. No more engine knocking either.
yes, amsoil is more expensive. but you change the oil less often (only 25K miles vs. 15K or 20K with other oils) so unless your vehicle is using to much oil, it might be worth it.
Wow all those oils did really well but Amsoil seem to do just a little bit better according to the wear metals either way I don't think anybody would have a problem with their engine running any of these oils I think they're all capable of taking a motor 300K
Just bought Kirkland synthetic for my wife’s car. $30 for 10 quarts and it’s supposed to be the same as the super tech I have in there now. Since super tech creeped up in price I’m gonna try this from Costco. Both made by warren.
It's because Warren got bought out by a private equity company owned by the family that inherited the Hyatt hotel chain, one of whom was commerce secretary under Obama. Shortly after that buyout is when the the SuperTech prices started to climb. Used to be that SuperTech Full Synthetic was about $10 cheaper for 5 quart jug than the big name brands such as Mobil-1, Pennzoil, etc.. but after 3 price hikes they are now the same or more than the big brands. Same thing happened with Amazon Basics oil. I'm guessing in the case of Costco they are either selling through backstock or they are using it as a loss-leader which would make sense but definitely was disappointed to see that Warren had sold out.
I had a bit of a bad experience with pennzoil once, can't recall what type of oil it was and it was probably close to 10 years ago. Might have been the semi-synthetic blend or something. I usually do go with full synthetic everytime but it definitely wasn't the platinum. But the car was also pretty clapped out. Sort of turned me off of Pennzoil tho. But I've only heard good things about pennzoil platinum. Pretty much any full synthetic imo is good oil. If the engine is tired or sludged up, high mileage, etc. Just change the oil more frequently like 3,000 miles for the first two oil changes. I've been using valvoline full synthetic in all my vehicles that's my current favorite. Just off hand I think it has a slight edge on mobile 1. Slightly more quiet at idle, etc. It's also slightly cheaper than mobile 1. I prefer to get all my oil and filters at walmart, valv full synthetic and fram ultra synthetic has been my go to combo for years now quite pleased with them.
I recently tried several different versions of Mobil-1 (advanced 5W-30. 0W-30 ESP, 0W-20 AFE) and in every case it make my vehicle sound like a tractor which no other motor oil, not even conventional had done. Ended up with lifter tap as well as start up chair rattle and running chain tap. Gave up on the Mobil-1, dumped in SuperTech full Synthetic (5W-30 regular version) noises greatly reduced but still present, added 1/3 a quart of Hy-Per Lube Oil Supplement to the ST oil and eliminated chain noise, start up rattle greatly reduced. Other vehicle, same year/make/model/miles same noise issues on M-1 switched to Castrol Edge 0W-40 resulting in all noises gone including start up rattle, chain, and running silky smooth. Even Quaker State Full Synthetic ran much better than any M-1 did. Haven't tried Pennz Plat-Ultra but might some time although so far the Castrol Edge 0W-40 give me no reason to. Still might do it as a comparison though.
I've been using Kirkland Full Synthetic 5W-30 motor oil in my 2007 Lincoln Mark LT 5.4L 3V with 123k ish miles for past 2 to 3 years and my engine still purrs. I do a 3k to 4k OCI though. I use wix xp, motorcraft, fram ultra synthetic, and Purolator Boss oil filters. I ordered an oil sample kit from Blackstone to see what I'm getting with Kirkland. The Pennzoil Ultra Platinum would be my go to oil if Kirkland is super crap. It does have SN Plus rating though and it dexos approved. Thanks Rich for these videos 👍
123K is still new! I have close to 400,000 on my Hyundai using cheap oil and filters. Change the oil at 3000. I can do 5000 because I live in the hot desert. No cold starts, no humidity and the heat burns out condensation, fuel vapors and impurities. Avoid short trips as much as possible.
Thanks I've been running pennzoil ultra platinum in my Mercury Grand Marquis thinking I'm using a close 2nd to the best being Amsoil. With these results that certainly is debatable between the top 2 but Pennzoil is half the price. I've already bit the bullet and purchase Amsoil for my next oil change so I'm still going to try it and see what happens. Will pay attention to any variance in mpg, power and engine smoothness.
@@jonnyg44 would you do that with your gas vehicles? I have before with good results but I'm thinking I shouldn't do it anymore. Although the guy with the million mile Tundra stated the he did 10K oil change intervals. The old man with the million mile crown vic did 7K to 8K oil changes so I'm thinking as long as I keep them at 7k or below I should be ok
@@dalephillips8250 depends on driving conditions, but probably not. Duramax is mostly highway driving but if I work in the city a lot I’ll change it more often. I change my Prius between 5000 and 7500. But my 2000 f350 with a v10 I’ve pushed to 10k a few times with just being busy.
Doing an oil change sometime pretty soon. Picked up some Castrol Edge high mileage 5quarts $21.95 on sale, slapping on a Fram ultra oil filter, also picked up a Fram extra guard air filter. Picked up a cabin filter also.
Just a thought, additive packages don't lubricate, OIL Does. This coming from a Quaker State Corporate Mgr years ago when I worked for QS Minit Lube........ His conclusion 40 years ago, "change your oil often and regardless of brand, you'll be pleased with the outcome."
Love this series, thank you. In my area I can get mobil 1 pretty cheap when it goes on sale so I have been using that. I might make the switch to the penzoil plat based on the data I have seen here.
Castrol Edge quieted some start up and running chain rattle I was getting after I experimented with using Mobil-1 which ended up being the worst oil I've tried so far, ended up dumping it after 500 miles because of previously non-existent lifter tap and chain rattle. SuperTech oil was much better than the Mobil-1 but still some noise present which 1/3 a quart of Hy-Per Lube Oil Supplement added to the SuperTech got rid of but the Castrol Edge Euro (0W-40) vanquished the noise all on it's own with the only negative being a slight decrease in MPG's.
Thank you for making a video explaining how amsoil signature series is just a good, average oil. And not a miracle liquid like so many clowns in comment sections believe.
First I would like to extend my sincere condolences to you and your family for your loss. Second do you think adding BG MOA to your oil is a good idea or am I wasting my money? Have you conducted a test yet with that additive with the worst oil to see if it changes the numbers when sent to blackstone?
I live in 'Sconnie so I get the stuff made in my state. Buy local right? And Amzoil hasn't done me wrong in 20+ years of running it. Thanks for the continued analysis! 👍
That presumed sheer-down is horrible on the Mobil and AMS! - the TBN might go further but the viscosity is under-spec completely, not surprised the engine was noisier.
Yeah I had to ditch my K&N filter in my pickup truck because it flowed so well it was letting a lot of dirt pass and Blackstone thought maybe I had an intake leak switch to a paper air filter silicone drop to a small percentage of what it was I was always a K&N fan but the little tiny insignificant horsepower bump you get from letting all that dirt in is not worth it
Hey Brother I have to say, sorry for your loss homie!!!! kinda a mood killer, i dont even want to talk about oil now that you have had a passing in the family....... but anyway im going to have to go with Platinum bro my 1997 Lincoln Town Car executive trim loves it's Pennz!!!
My 1990 bmw takes 10w40. I use full synthetic and Mobil 1 is getting burned up like water and the oil was really really dark when I drained it. I also had a large vaccum leak making it dump fuel in the engine. When I switched to amsoil XL (the oil for boosted motors) my oil consumption went from 2 quarts at 3500-4000 mi with Lucas oil stabilizer to only a half quart loss at 5000 miles. I’m gonna keep using it, it seems to be the only thing that’ll make my car happy
Both part 1 and part 2 were quite interesting. After your emphatic posts about OCI, I'm not going to go over 4,000 miles on my 2015 Audi Q5 2.0 liter, which has a piston ring clogging problem and carbon issues anyhow. Perhaps no more than 3,000 miles OCI from now on. As far as this video: right now I'm using Pennzoil Platinum Euro 0W-40. I'd like to try the ULTRA Platinum 0W-40, but they are not on the VW 502/505 list. It seems the ULTRA could provide more TBN and cleanliness than Platinum. Oddly, VW still lists Castrol 5W-30 Euro with its AP SL as approved oil for this Audi. I'd be surprised if it provides anything as good as the non VW approved ULTRA Platinum 0W-40. Go figure.
My condolences. Very interested in seeing the results. Would be interested in seeing your tests with Quaker State synthetic. Also maybe testing at 3k testing with your favorite oil. Wonder if Fram Toughguard has similar results to Ultra.
Oh gosh...I"m sorry about your uncle. Those viscosity numbers--I don't know how to phrase it--do you think those numbers might be due to the time of year? I know that fuel dilution can be a thing due to possible excessive idling during winter...but what are your thoughts as to why the viscosity levels are the way they are? Fuel dilution obviously isn't a problem...but the breaking down is kind of a red flag, isn't it? Thanks for all the videos, your insight...it's huge. We all sure appreciate it!
Time of year could be a factor. Looks like the Pennzoil was run during the summer while Amsoil during winter with maybe more idling hours or conditions could affect results. Those viscosity recommended values do seem pretty high if the Mobile 1 with 3,500 fails it so badly, the Amsoil isn't in it and the Pennzoil is on the lower end of it.
Sorry about your uncle Rich, hopefully you will be able to site see some and ease your pain, IF you are near the gulf see if you can get down to Fort Morgan built from 1813 to 1833 ONE BRICK at a time and they had no air-conditioning at night to sleep back then, They were some tough dude's ,it has an interesting history as does Fort Pickens in Florida, WOW, you really cleared the air with this test on getting the MOST BANG for your buck in oil, Something to think about going with Amsoil is their recommended 20,000 mile oil change interval to make their oil COST EFFECTIVE , My self IF I was to go to 100 % synthetic I would go with the Pennzoil ultra platinum 5W/30 and CHANGE it every 5000 miles like I'm doing NOW with Motorcraft Blend 5W/30 made by Conoco / Phillips in my new 2021 F-150 with the 5.0 , Motorcraft Blend 5W/30 is not always on the shelf at our local Walmart so when they had it I bough 3 changes ahead just to have it on hand , Are you still planning to do a 5,000 ,mile test on it to see how it stacks up to the 100% synthetic oils to see what the cost / benefit ratio is , Hell I might just stay with the Motorcraft Blend 5W/30 being as my OLD 2007 Expy I bought new with the 5.4 that everyone hates never gave me any issues what so ever over 14 years running Motorcraft Blend 5W 20 , Anyway, THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO WITH THIS PAGE, John
Thanks for the data You got back from Amsoil i use Pennz Plat made from natural gas in the gas vehicles sometimes i will buy Pennz ultra when its on sale. but i dont bother with priceir amsoil for pretty much the same protection as pennz Platinum pure plus oil thanks again Richard for takeing the time and posting results.
Personally I have never Used the Penzoil Platinum Ultra "Ever". However, I'am willing to give it a try Since I'am an AMSOIL DEALER I am Alway's Open to trying Something Different. Back in the Day, we stayed away from Penzoil, Valveoline was my Go To Oil. But now day's things are different and HOT! So I'll Buy a SIX PAK of the Penzoil Plat Ultra and See if it's got any Benefit's. It be Noted tho, it will be the 5/20 for our 2018 3.5 V6 Non Turbo. We'll see. Good Video Rich. Sorry I'am a Little Late On this response.
Hi Sir. I am watching and following you from Iraq and really can't thank you more for all the effort and info. you offer and put hear, very appreciated. In an overall, I am in the middle of the way between choosing one of two 5W30 Royal Purple 5W30 AMSOIL Signature Series to use it in my 2021 FORD Explorer Limited 2.3 EcoBoost which has almost 39,000 kilometers. Which is the best in an overall? Thanks very much indeed in advance.
Wont use Mobil 1. Didn’t like it. Motor wasn’t as quiet. My go to’s are Castrol Edge or Ultra one plus. Both made my engine damn near silent & at 5K they’re still golden color.
Change the oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles or every 6 months. Your vehicles will be happy, no matter the brand of oil. Just stay away from the recycled oils. I use SuperTech, paid 0.10 an ounce, or $12.80 a gallon for my last bulk purchase. I use their filters too, which are made by Champion, who also make the Mobil One filters, along with other more expensive brands. The secret, change the oil, and none of this 10,000+ mile nonsense.
Since the Amsoil tested was a 20 weight, the centistoke measurement was right where they t needed to be, so it didn’t lose viscosity at all! If the Pennzoil Ultra was also a 20 weight, then it actually thickened to a 30 weight by the centistoke measurement. If it was a 30 weight tested, then it thinned somewhat and was on the low end of a 30 weight, nearly losing grade.
My deapest symphaties, Rich. Take care. I am a bit confused: are you still using the K&N airfilter or did you mean you will use it again for comparison? Also, are you going to try the high mileage oils that Pennzoil and Mobil 1 recommend for 75K+ engines?
My Mercedes 3 litter did not like Mobil 1. The lifters got very loud.I have used Royal Purple and Penzoil. I have changed all my fluids to Amsoil in my car and M H. Will stay with that.
I switched from Mobil 1 to Pennzoil Ultra on my 2012 Camry, however it's still burning oil. I did notice a quieter engine though, maybe it's done, has 221,000 on it, I just topoff. Considering either Amsoil Engine Flush and their OE formula or Valvoline Restore.
FELLAS THE OIL USED AT THE AMSOIL CHANGE WAS 5W20 NOT 5w30 so the shear was not as bad as suspected
But was still not as good as Penzoil Platinum which did better under heat testing
And mobil the same way it did jot do as good under heat testing
PPU - was right in spec
Hey, highly respect this channel! I am not faulting you and I don't think anyone is. it's good to be clear for those who didn't see, but it's the not the end of the world. You can always test the 5w-30 later.

I really don't take fault on this channel because I'm putting my money on the line my neck online my time on the line so if I make a mistake I make a mistake that's just how it is
this there's nobody else out there really doing that other than a handful of people
Edit: I see what you mean now
Hey if you want I can pay for some Amsoil Signature Series 5w-30 to send your way to test.
@@blacklilac1408 appreciate the offer man but I'm good 5w 20 tested good
The range for 5w20 viscosity @ 100C is 5.60 to 9.29, the amsoil scored 8.52, very high in the upper range of correct oil grade.
I have been a Amsoil customer since 1983. No issues, no problems. Never had a bad oil sample, Amsoil is the best in my opinion
Same here. I have logged lower tow temps as well!
i use it a lot,,but my 2006 zx14 got motul 7100 this time,,,,was pricey,,,but i hear its top shelf
👍
Been using Pennzoil platinum high mileage full synthetic 5w 30 on my 2004 Ford F-150 for years. I did notice when I first switched from Mobil 1 to Pennzoil my truck went quieter and runs smoother. I've been very satisfied with Pennzoil.
I have a 99 f150 with 238k miles, I've been running Mobile 1 for a very long time. Since watching his videos in addition to your comment, I'm seriously considering trying out Pennzoil Platinum.
@@NormEZPennzoil is a seriously good oil in my opinion. Along with Valvoline.
Sorry about your uncle. My condolences for your loss. Thank you for taking the time to post videos. Safe travels and be blessed.
This Pennzoil is really sounding interesting, good to hear you had positive results.
Good stuff.
The ultra platinum is better oil slightly more expensive like 3 bucks more
Its great oil its all I run in my vehicles 👍
They run Pennzoil Ultra 0w-40 at Indy on some cars, 11,000 RPM for 500 miles, seems to hold up well enough.
that's exactly what hes talking about in the video bud... ultra platinum.
Race teams use a totally different formulation. John Force had a guy fly out to do his oil formulations on site sometimes.
Thank got it's full...turn and burn.
Glad I never went into helicopters, my instructor was a helo crew chief and talked a lot of shit about fixed wing aircraft.
My experience with CH-53D and E, if your flight suit doesn’t have oil or hydraulic stains on them then they’re new.

I am slowly switching everything over to Pennzoil products. Shell Rotella gas truck is made by the same company but is getting harder to find. Thanks for these results.
So am I. It's pennzoil ultra for my cars also
In my area Cal Ranch stores have a good supply of Shell gas truck oil .
Pennzoil high mileage or extended range is supposed to be a true synthetic. -Probably their most premium oil.
Don't use Fram they are garbage now they used to be good 25 years ago but the bite now
Great oil analysis comparisons!
Thanks for doing this!
I like Pennzoil Platinum, my engine seems a little quieter and I get good oil analysis results.
🙏For you and your family.

Thanks for posting, Rich. I appreciate the real world perspective.
Thanks Rich , very valuable info ! My condolences to you and family! Have a safe trip home !!!
Are you using regular platinum or ultra?
Pennzoil or Castrol are the only two brands I use. Pennzoil full synthetic high mileage, Castrol Edge high mileage, Castrol Magnetic, Pennzoil Ultra.
Sorry for your loss. Thank you for the video.
Pennzoil Platinum Ultra has a really great base with less need to add moly. At least according to the study I saw done. It's pretty interesting. I've used Mobile One for years, but I'm probably going to switch with the next oil change.
Sorry for your loss. I like the celebration of life in place of traditional funeral as well. Thanks for all the testing
This is fantastic information. Many thanks.
Sorry to hear about your family troubles. Best wishes.
Keep it up!
You must have an awsome wife bro, that be cool to have a healthy competition like that with your partner.
Cool to even know she works on her car!
Well Amsoil Does have a better additive package indeed
But I think I'll stick with Penzoil When it's all said and done
Amsoil Signature Series oil is their Top of the line oil with extended drain capability with their oil filter up to 25,000 mile. Have been to their production plant and seen the whole process, quite Amazing. They also do severe, extended testing in their own onsite labs.
Thanks man. I’ve been penzoil ultra for a while now.
But I’ve gone with the Fram filters after learning from your channel. Keep the great work up!
I’ve done oil analysis on Amsoil after 20,000 miles on a 152,000 mile engine. It showed “good for continued use”.
My buddy did oil analysis after 33,000 miles on his 25,000 mile Amsoil. It still had very minimal oil life left with no red flags
I can't and won't get behind that oci EVER
do what works for you though
@@FordBossMe There’s nothing wrong with changing oil more often. I’ve been using Amsoil since 1993 with
excellent results.
I guess you could say that’s expensive compared to many other oils, but I only drive about 4500 miles a year so I only do an annual oil

The highest was my Fusion Sport 2.7L at 11PPM and after driving 5000 miles. While I truly respect your knowledge and appreciate your ongoing efforts to inform us all. I do wonder if your air filter has a defective seal or some other matter to give such a reading?

Boss, good info. I"m currently running a mix of Valvoline 5w-20 conventional and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in my 1998 Ford ZX2 (oil change was the Valvoline then had to add a quart of the Pennzoil Ultra after 2000 miles) and that Ford motor purrs like never before. I've had it since 2003 (103,000 miles at that time and now it has 203,000 miles on it now and still gets 33 mpg.
Thanks for doing the test. I’ve been running amsoil in my truck, but if I can get the protection from penzoil I can do that.
Thats what I'm saying, the price difference seems like it's well worth the swap, I'm sold.
What oil filter brand do you use ?
Just did the math with buying Penn Ultra from Wally world, I can do 5 oil changes for the price of 2 with Amsoil
I run pennzoil platinum ultra with 5000 to 7500 oci always been happy with no varnish. 👍
Sorry to hear about your uncle my friend! Thanks for the work you do!
At 5k mile OCI you should be good with all of these quality synthetic oils. I personally like and use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum.
would been nice to see the collum headings
been using pennzoil ultra for a while now and i love the stuff.
I'm interested to see the difference between Amsoil signature series and Amsoil OE oil.
Hey Rusty, But the real question is "What is Hank Hill running" ??? "Rusty Shackelford" thats a good one!
Definitely a close second, that’s my favorite oil to run for interval changes. I do go 10k on my diesel with amsoil
@@jonnyg44 would you do that with your gas vehicles? I have before with good results but I'm thinking I shouldn't do it anymore. It's less then half the price when you consider how much longer you can go on the Signature when compared to Pennzoil Platinum.
@Jeffrey Zabawski correct but I'm just a little scared to keep doing 10K OCI. I change between 5-7K
Doing an oil change sometime pretty soon. Picked up some Castrol Edge high mileage 5quarts $21.95 on sale, slapping on a Fram ultra oil filter, also picked up a Fram extra guard air filter. Picked up a cabin filter also.

Thank you for the info. Moved from Aurora live in southern Tn don't miss it.
Sorry about your uncle and thanks again for your time and effort.
A Red Line vs AMSOIL test would be interesting
Already been done
Redline was top dog
I tried Castrol Magnetic and stuff works. No engine tap on cold start up anymore. Something to that stuff.
Love this series, thank you. In my area I can get mobil 1 pretty cheap when it goes on sale so I have been using that. I might make the switch to the penzoil plat based on the data I have seen here.
Impressive results for me to know. I use AMSOIL for my HD and Castrol edge or Pennzoil for my Lincoln. A big Thank You
Castrol Edge quieted some start up and running chain rattle I was getting after I experimented with using Mobil-1 which ended up being the worst oil I've tried so far, ended up dumping it after 500 miles because of previously non-existent lifter tap and chain rattle.
BG makes good stuff.
I live in 'Sconnie so I get the stuff made in my state. Buy local right? And Amzoil hasn't done me wrong in 20+ years of running it.
Thanks for the continued analysis! 👍
Wow I never would have guessed pennzoil I mean lab results don’t lie. Great info thanks again
Go figure.
All the Audis Have the oil control ring issue
My co worker has a Audi v6 supercharged and it burns a quart a week
I'm not sure what's going on with the oil breakdown
Time of year could be a factor. Looks like the Pennzoil was run during the summer while Amsoil during winter with maybe more idling hours or conditions could affect results. Those viscosity recommended values do seem pretty high if the Mobile 1 with 3,500 fails it so badly, the Amsoil isn't in it and the Pennzoil is on the lower end of it.
Comparing the same oil with the same mileage between summer and winter may be needed.
Project farm also did extensive testing on those and other oils, amsoil signature
Sorry for the typo but amsoil signature won in his testing,,, project farm
Thank you very much man I’m wishing you and your loved ones well!
Dang brother why not label the freaking columns which oil is which
Condolences brother appreciate what you do
Thanks for the data You got back from Amsoil i use Pennz Plat made from natural gas in the gas vehicles sometimes i will buy Pennz ultra when its on sale. but i dont bother with priceir amsoil for pretty much the same protection as pennz Platinum pure plus oil thanks again Richard for takeing the time and posting results.
Thanks for the update! Interesting results! 🤙🤙
Bi pennzoil ultra fan but was persuaded to try amsoil well after this rich going back to
Pennzoil
Sorry for your loss
Thanks again for hard work
Very well explained video my question is what do you think between royal purple vs amsoil ?
I think rp is what I would choose for general use but amsoil for extended ocis if I did them but I don't believe in them
Hey brother ... Sorry to hear about your recent loss .
Sorry to hear about your loss. Was this the 5w-20 Signiture series that we saw in the video? Or is it the 5w-30?
Wanted to know if you ever tested 15w 40 magnum Lucas diesel oil? Thanks for the videos
No
“As it is appointed unto man once to die and after this the judgment”. Bible
Hi Sir.
I am watching and following you from Iraq and really can't thank you more for all the effort and info. you offer and put hear, very appreciated.
In an overall, I am in the middle of the way between choosing one of two
5W30 Royal Purple
5W30 AMSOIL Signature Series
to use it in my 2021 FORD Explorer Limited 2.3 EcoBoost which has almost 39,000 kilometers.
Which is the best in an overall?
Thanks very much indeed in advance.
Depends on which Royal Purple - I like high mileage royal purple
Wont use Mobil 1. Didn’t like it. Motor wasn’t as quiet. My go to’s are Castrol Edge or Ultra one plus. Both made my engine damn near silent & at 5K they’re still golden color.
Signature Series is an extended-plus drain oil designed for fleet vehicles that's why it has so much more additive.
Have you any opinions on the Service Tech high millage full synthetic that Wal-Mart sells?
I will be testing it next
Thank you so much for this video.
2013 edge 50,000 miles car is meticulously maintained. We run the mobile synthetic with the higher end wiz filter/what are your thoughts on that?
Change the oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles or every 6 months. Your vehicles will be happy, no matter the brand of oil. Just stay away from the recycled oils. I use SuperTech, paid 0.10 an ounce, or $12.80 a gallon for my last bulk purchase. I use their filters too, which are made by Champion, who also make the Mobil One filters, along with other more expensive brands. The secret, change the oil, and none of this 10,000+ mile nonsense.
Awesome analysis bro please keep this stuff up please show the royal purple results to the penz and ams oil live to see this stuff
No I quit using it after Mobil
My Mercedes 3 litter did not like Mobil 1. The lifters got very loud.I have used Royal Purple and Penzoil. I have changed all my fluids to Amsoil in my car and M H. Will stay with that.
Would love to see you run Lucas motor oil for 5k miles for comparison
Next is Walmart supertech 5w30 20k oil and then Motorcraft Bulk 5w30
These were the next most popular demands
I switched from Mobil 1 to Pennzoil Ultra on my 2012 Camry, however it's still burning oil. I did notice a quieter engine though, maybe it's done, has 221,000 on it, I just topoff. Considering either Amsoil Engine Flush and their OE formula or Valvoline Restore.
I used Super Tech full synthetic 5w30 with K&N oil filter.
Thank you for the info Boss !!!
