@DuBstep115 yeah, I'm not buying it, any twisting motion is unnecessary and can be kept to a minimum . It looks cool, but the Acl Lcl icl don't like it
I think holding the back leg in the shrimp squat makes forces you to be more upright vs pistol might let you lean forward more. But the range of motion is shorter
shrimp squats (holding the leg behind you, which makes it a million times harder) and dragon squats are so freaking hard! This girl does them so easily
I got through 4 no problem. Then, shrimp... omg. Stuck at the bottom and no hope of getting up. Though pistol squats weren't too bad. Idk what it means tho. Must have some imbalances somewhere
@@SwankyFoxProductionsmy guess, and it's just a guess, is that you use your core to brace yourself differently when you pistol than when you hold your leg behind you.
I've done the shrimp squat just stuffing around one day when I was warming up for squats. I found it was similar to the touch down box and I didn't need the stack of plates
Yes. After 17 years of inline skating with a 50lb backpack, these are less difficult now. The crossover one is challenging. These are a great way to increase your leg & knee strength. ☯️🧘♂️☯️
Just have to do the regressions of these exercises. Start with the heels elevated, etc. there are tons of videos on ankle mobility related to squatting
I have the strength for a pistol squat but my tendinitis have made it hard for me to completely. I’ll definetly have to add shrimp to the workout plan!
I've never seen so many types of one leg squat! I started one leg squat from pistol squat. First attempts I did on stool because I couldn't keep my leg over the floor 😅
I'm 56 with the back and joints of a 90 something. I used to lift very heavy weights. Going to focus on body weight exercises and yoga. This will be one of them!
This is phenomenal leg strength. I’d like a training plan to take me through all 7 of these stages. Do you have one? I am a cyclist and runner, so I’m interested more in functional leg strength rather than squatting big weights.
I would like to know why would this help with knee pain. I’ve got a small meniscus tear (from December 2022) and always thought knees passed the toes was bad for the knees.
What can I do if I have bad ankle mobility? I always fall backwards when getting lower, I can't get my center of gravity in a position where I can support it. I tried hinging forward, to stretch my calves, but I can't even get a stretch there, it just feels like my ankle is blocking the movement. If I put pressure on it it starts feeling uncomfortable and pinched. Can I fix this somehow?
'Behind the heel' can get you super-low with support and stability if you need it. I think it's the best for hypertrophy without struggling with the skill. Also good for knee pain.
Maybe I’m crazy, but I can see do a few reps of pistol squats but I absolutely cannot manage a single shrimp squat. I’ve even managed a few dragon squats!
You’re not crazy. IMO the dragon squat isn’t too bad when you get the technique down. It seems convoluted, but the leg positioning helps a lot with balance. Case in point; it’s much easier to pause and hold at the bottom of the dragon squat, than it is vs. The pistol or the shrimp.
I feel like the Shrimp squat has shown me a weakness in my overall squat form, so I’ve been slowly shrimp squatting with more depth over time to solve that issue. Hoping to see some good progress in the next few weeks/months. I’d love to have as immaculate of form as the girl demonstrating them all!
What comes beyond the deep dragon squat? I've gotten to the point where I can do them pretty clean and so far did not manage to come up with a harder bodyweight leg excercise
It’s funny I actually find Hawaiian squats harder than pistol squats. I’m training them by putting my hands on a table to balance myself while I do them, hopefully I’ll be more flexible after a while.
