The 1990s was the golden age of Madonna music videos. All her greatest works are found here, beginning with Vogue in 1990. Through the provocative Justify My Love, the lush Rain (filmed in black and white, later colored in), the "Looking for Mr Goodbar" inspired Bad Girl, the visually stunning Bedtime Story.... I could go on... Human Nature (my personal favorite), the Warhol inspired Deeper and Deeper.... all the way to the award winning Ray of Light. Nothing Really Matters (inspired by the novel Memoirs of a Geisha), Power of Good-bye (inspired the classic Joan Crawford film "Humoresque"), and Frozen (partially inspired by the Oscar-winning film "The English Patient" are also top notch.
Many fans consider Madonna to be an 80s artist, but for me, her most creative period was the 1990s. So much thought went into everything, the songs, the videos, the performances, the cd sleeve content.

Because this version is too polished and the whole Erotica album has a raw sound. If she would've put out this version on the album, it would've sounded way off. Both versions are great.

Erotica is one of the greatest albums from the nineties, also Bed Times Stories was excellent. She didn’t have to work so hard to be controversial. I love the Madonna from the 90s.

"Fever" it's probably the best cover that has been made for the original song. The video os a extraordinary photography work!
Returning to this video every so often and being absolutely blown away by it every damn time.
It took me years, and suffering from HIV, to understand why - and how - she covered this song. Madonna usually doesn't cover songs. But the "fever" she's singing about here isn't the sensual, jazzy "fever" of the original: it's the actual medical fever, the disease, the near-death feverish infection that is AIDS... the descending minor chords, the breathy, thin vocals. Fuck, this album is a conceptual masterpiece. "Everybody's got the fever, that is something you should know."...
I was thinking the same thing! Although the lyricists made an excellent work by interpolating both themes into such a great song.

They finally edited it for the album, by chosing a version a little more jazzy and a little less dancing. That's why this version is called "Edit one" on the released Maxi CDs and vinyles.

What songs were groundbreaking exactly other than the title track? I like Erotica but I found it a huge let down from Like A Prayer both in songwriting and production. Shep Pettibone was a much better remixer than songwriter and we found out later Tony Shimkin ghostwrote many of the songs. Where Life Begins, Whys it So Hard, Did You Do It and In This Life are horrible songs.
You can tell they only used an 8 track recording desk..
@@astrolabe1976 I get Why's It So Hard and even Did You Do It, but When Life Begins and In This Life, IMO are great songs. Music is subjective so I respect your opinion, but for me, When Life Begins is a nice slower more cheeky song (obvs about eating out) while In This Life is a sad ballad abt her gay bestfriend and gay mentor (both died of AIDs). I think the appeal of the Erotica era is its brash and liberating attitude towards sexuality. I'd def rank Erotica over LAP any day.

I remember how this video was so unreal and beyond its time when it first aired. Madonna in silver was extremely cool. People were in awe of her creativity and unbeliveable visual talent. None of the videos back then had this much graphic. All this red was trully amazing.

Madonna oozes sensuality in this video and this version of the song should have been on the album. Erotica and the early 90s era produced some of Madonna's most creative and memorable works of art.
This is probably the most unexpected reaction to this video, but it makes me think of how metals behave when heated up. Madonna and the muscle man are clad in sliver and gold to represent the elemental metals and the grid like lights show the atomic arrangement of metals in a rigid grid. The zooming in and out shows how the atoms start jiggling when heated up!

Tan bien planeado no fue. Si Erotica se hubiese lanzado antes que el libro SEX seguramente hubiese tenido más éxito. El problema radicó en que es un álbum experimental de primera calidad que quedó opacado por las provocaciones del libro y el público en general tomó este trabajo como parte de su publicidad controversial. Pero en realidad es un muy buen álbum. Recordemos que para 1990 y 1991 (truth or dare) ella era la artista n1 en todo el mundo, en cuanto a ventas de sus recitales, discos y hasta sencillos/videos, no había quien le hiciera sombra. Lastimosamente por una mala jugada todo se vino a pique en 1992 y recién hasta 1998 no pudo remontar su estatus de “artista masiva”
@@SoyHabsburgo sigue siendo masiva, sigue llenando estudios , sigue vendiendo boletos en tiempo récord, sigue teniendo mucha demanda sus conciertos tanto que se han tenido que abrir más fechas, quizá si música actual ya no es como la de antes porque no está bien asesorada pero sigue siendo mundial y descomunal sigue vigente y lo seguirá después que ella ya no esté, será aún más su influencia después de que ella ya no esté.
