Thanks for making this video you saved me money I was about to change the power steering pump but all it was was air in the system after changing the line's cheers mate good vid 💯💯👍
Wow this was truly so good to have watched . I lost my dad to lung cancer one year and a day ago and have had no one to help me . I noticed my pump has been really loud and decided to check my pump ! It went from max to completely full meaning it sucked up all the oil and was not working . My god it was full of air . Thank you for being the dad I needed.
I’m not sure if you’ll see this because it’s so late. I tried the steps and I thought it was getting better but there’s still alot of air . I just tried to drive it to get rid of the air I have the noise is not as aggressive but it’s still there . Does that mean the pumps just shot?
After pulling the power steering pump out to replace the a/c compressor on my 2003 Tacoma and installing the power steering pump back on it just would not work like it was suppose to, but after watching your video and you mention that it took you at least 20 minutes I followed your instructions and it worked perfectly. Other videos did not mention it could take that long, so that part helped a lot.
Thanks for the education ! I started hearing the sound and the smell a little bit ago. I had an estimate for the air conditioning. It has not been working from day one. The price was too high. I knew something was wrong because of the sound. They indicated the power steering fluid was low. I was not going to take my car to have someone fix it. So I found your video. Followed your instructions. Now my car is running perfectly. When I bought my car I decided to take care of more issues by myself . I am having a tremendously fun time. I am grateful for your help! Also I found someone who is fixing the air conditioning for one third of the cost. Proactive!

They were so ugly to me and told me they didn't do engine work and i was looking at at least $500 just for labor. My car has just been sitting because they got $2,000 almost for the belt and back brakes. I was so discouraged that i couldn't even drive my car and now i was going to save up more money for a new ps pump, hoses, etc. im going to tey this this week and pray it works. My mind has hust been baffled. I didn't know what i was going to do. So......thank you so much for posting and all of the replys!!!!!
THANK YOU! I just replaced my power steering pump but it's hard to steer. I wasn't sure about the bubbles coming up from the reservoir. The two videos I watched that helped me do the replacement for my particular make and model did not cover this little detail. They just showed hooking everything up and topping up the fluid. This video tops off those two and shows me what I need to do. Thanks again! Good job!
I see movement on the reservoir when car is idle and steering ir hard when parking only, maybe those are bubbles and is the oil movement to be expected? I thought it was because oil was circulating
I'd like the way you explained the whole procedure how to remove air bubbles in the steering system. It was done very professionally and very specific. Thanks for taking the time to share with us. 👍
Worked great on my 2003 Chevy, I tried factory method, 5 other methods, none worked. Your method worked because of doing it with the truck running and the cap off and the length of time, you mentioned that it could take 20-30 minutes which is exactly what it took mine to finally bleed all air out. I did however, raise the front off the ground which is important to help save your suspension, tires and steering components if doing it for 20-30 minutes.
Thanks. Fluid dropped down on the belts, so after I tightened the screw on the power steering upper tube line, I just had to get the air out from the system. It worked great the way you recommended it - moving the steering from left to right ✅ Thanks so much.
Great vid showing a simple technique that works. One thing I would suggest... when doing this, jack the front up a little, just enough to get the tyres off the ground by only an inch, and maybe put a block or bricks underneath, this way going back and forward turning the steering wont tear the crap out of your tyres, and it lessons the strain on the power steering pump too !! 👍
Very Good suggestion i did this once with my car and i was not aware that I had a silence but deadly ball joint and the excess strain on my suspension from doing this on the asphalt caused my ballpoint to break when i moved the car 10 ft after bleeding the power steering and my axel fell out. Good thing i was in my driveway
I flushed my power steering on my 200k subaru and it was whiny and was foaming like as if it had rabies. I did the trick as mentioned and it worked. No foaming and pump is quiet. Ill follow up if goes rabid again😂😂

I did similar except that I had my front wheels off the ground with jacks, better than getting flat spots on my front tires from sitting in one spot turning and turning right to left while not moving. From time to time I used to remove cap and in an empty parking lot I would find a spot to turn all the way one way and then all the way the other way before I came up with the simply jack it up idea. Can someone please let me know if it's normal when doing this for the whining to get louder at first? Changed the pump on my 03 audi a6 and it was still whining really bad. I know it's air in the lines but I'm turning the wheel and checking fluid and it is foaming and really big air pockets coming out so I know for sure air is coming out but it gets louder and louder at like 5 full turns and I get nervous and stop. Audi is expensive and SO hard to fix at home on my own. I'm a woman and I get it done but I'm very nervous over this. A quart of the required fluid for an audi is 60 bucks a quart. I don't wanna be throwing away money!
Man I just replaced my steering pump, and initially the turning is better, but the more you turn, the more the wheel gets stiff. I've done the left and right trick over and over but no luck. Any other suggestions?
U can do this without the vehicle on. It dose not need to be on. Turn key to accessory n turn the wheel left n right. Once there r no more bubbles ur gd. This method works vry well.
How did air get in it in the first place.? Im suspecting an pin hole in the line. Maybe a rusted area underneath the car or an area where two lines are joined by a clamp that lost its tensioning ability
I thought you were suppose to raise the front wheels off the ground and put on jack stands, then with the key turned all the way up to the spot BEFORE starting the car, then turn the wheel all the way to the right, then left, then right, then left, repeat like 20-25 times, pausing to check the fluid halfway through?
Im getting a very dull whine i believe to be my power steering in my honda accord i replaced both O rings and all the fluid it only happens in the morning on start up then goes away completely until the next morning
@PhillipsVision I appreciate your input but I have replaced my drive belt just recently and it's not the squeaking of a belt I know it's hard to explain over TH-cam. I was just curious if there was anyway maybe a power steering pump can make such a sound that only happens when cold in the morning and then just goes away all day.
I'm getting contradictory info. I was told by two videos don't do it with power on but I have tried both methods on and off and still no power steering. New pump and I don't have winding noise anymore but still no power steering
Hope you're around. Replacement pump done. Refilled with fluid, bump started engine a few times until all old fluid was out. Hooked up hoses & rotated tires until fluid STOPPED going down. With fluid at operating height, I started engine and turn wheel. Checked fluid only to find it ALMOST over flowing. Help, what went wrong.
Fiance replaced the pump, refilled with the fluid, did the bleed with a kit but now the steering won't turn. He tried all these steps. With or without a kit. He has an '03 Toyota Tacoma!

I've an 03' or Cruiser and I just fixed a leak in my power steering cooler and your video was very helpful thanks!!
Glad it helped👍
How did air get in it in the first place.? Im suspecting an pin hole in the line. Maybe a rusted area underneath the car or an area where two lines are joined by a clamp that lost its tensioning ability
i know this is an old video but im having an issue with mine where when i do this method the power steerfluid is foaming and blows up
Sounds like a leak in the system causing air to get in. Check for loose hoses and/or leaking seals
Thanks for this video. I’m going to try this out.
I have a 1994 Chevy suburban, I’ve had the power steering pump done, several times what could be the problem?
What does the bleeder Val look like?
I did that and it still makes noise. I was told to drive it and the air will wk. Out. I don't think so. ANY SUGGESTIONS please help.
@@christiefisher6642 Your pump may be bad and need to be replaced.
@PhillipsVision they installed a new one. This is why I am confused. Thank you for letting me know. Very kind of you.
@@christiefisher6642 if they installed a new one it sounds like they didn’t bleed the air out properly
@PhillipsVision yes thought as much, I turned wheel several times but of to no avail. Thank you. Phillip.
Incredibly helpful! Thanks a lot for the detailed video. Subscribed!
Thx
Hey bro I just changed my power steering pump on my 2010 Ford focus and wheel still is getting hard but not as hard when it broke down
Make sure you get all the air out, then top off the fluid
Do I keep doing it till the reservoir stops bubbling while I turn the wheel side to side?
I also had the car jack from the front and been doing it on the air
The wheel is loose till it hits like a bubble and the reservoir starts to bubble
No whining or nothing by the way appreciate that you answered my question after years!!
Thanks Andy
Im getting a very dull whine i believe to be my power steering in my honda accord i replaced both O rings and all the fluid it only happens in the morning on start up then goes away completely until the next morning
Sounds like your belts. You may need to have them replaced.
@@TrueBeingRealization is the belt tension correct? A loose belt will also make that noise when cold starting
I'm getting contradictory info. I was told by two videos don't do it with power on but I have tried both methods on and off and still no power steering. New pump and I don't have winding noise anymore but still no power steering
did you ever find the solution? was it the rack and pinion?
Do I have to jack the front of vehicle up front two wheels off ground
I did not, but it is recommended so you don’t wear out the tires and so the air will rise
Thank a lot for the nice video.
Thanks for the comment, glad it helped
Hope you're around. Replacement pump done. Refilled with fluid, bump started engine a few times until all old fluid was out. Hooked up hoses & rotated tires until fluid STOPPED going down. With fluid at operating height, I started engine and turn wheel. Checked fluid only to find it ALMOST over flowing. Help, what went wrong.
Fiance replaced the pump, refilled with the fluid, did the bleed with a kit but now the steering won't turn. He tried all these steps. With or without a kit. He has an '03 Toyota Tacoma!
Make sure there is no blockage in the hose.
