    Alley 55: Thank you so much for this. I'm having a bear of a time to get all the bubbles out of my BMW e46 330i (Note e46 M54 engine straight 6 should NOT exceed 21 Hg). I'm going to try out your procedure as I just bought some clear vac tubing today. As a courtesy to your viewers, I summarized the procedure. Please comment if I got anything wrong:
    PROCEDURE SUMMARY
    1) Check P/S fluid level and ensure it's at the right cold level
    2) Insert vacuum device. Elevate catch can above P/S inlet to reduce amount of fluid going into the catch can
    3) Pressurize between 20 - 25 Hg. WARNING: DO NOT PRESSURIZE BEYOND 25 Hg
    4) Allow air bubbles to escape. Allow it to run its course until you don't see as many bubbles. Leave pressurized.
    5) Start vehicle and turn steering wheel lock to lock 10 times. Shut off vehicle.
    6) Check P/S fluid level. If low, de-pressurize vacuum device and add more fluid to the correct level. Reattach and pressurize again between 20 - 25 Hg.
    7) Repeat Steps 4 - 6 until there are no bubbles.

      99.99% percent of people trying to get air out of the oil don't have a vacuum pump and don't really want to buy one just to get some air bubbles out of hydraulic oil.

    I cannot begin to tell u how excited i am to try this. I've had no luck to Date since late March and the squealing is driving me nuts. New pump, New high pressure, new rack and pinion, new belt tensioner, new belts... Mechanic keeps saying it will go away and take longer because it's a Ford. I'll update in a few days.

    I think you may have done some damage to the pump/system by starting it the first time and having the pump whining like that. Maybe, you could have NOT started the vehicle, and then turned the wheel lock-to-lock without the vehicle running. This would have cycled some fluid throughout, before running the pump "dry" for a few seconds until it got the fluid to it.

    I had changed out the power steering fluid in my Dodge Challenger because it was making some weird noises and i haven’t had it that long.l. And it the fluid was pretty dark.. anyways, i kept applying vacuum and it didn’t seem like working because the steering got super stiff, but then i watched this video..
    the service manual says to NOT run the car when your bleeding the system, but your video gave me the confidence to go ahead and start the car with the vacuum still applied, and it worked!
    At first it was making a making a loud whirring sound, and then i added a little more fluid and it was good to go!
    Thank you so much

    First: Thanks for your video My 1st and 2nd cycle sucked a bunch of bubbles. On my 3rd no liquid was pulled into the vacuum line and my gauge stay at 21 in.Hg vac. Is that a good indicator?
    I replaced the EVO (sensor on the rack, while installed on the car). Jesus and I had a long conversation. I’ll get back to you on the test drive outcome. Dealer said EVO was bad. $213. I did the R & R. Had the PS pump and Rack rebuilt (2011 Maxima)for $340 here in Houston, Tx.

    Sounds exactly like our infinity Q45. My husband replaced the high pressure line and it makes noise constantly, he tried getting the air out the old way. Jacked the front end up and turned the wheel lock to lock about thirty times. It did not work. I'll let him watch this video.

      Also, look for additional leaks. If the power steering vacuum pump doesn’t hold vacuum / needle on gauge slowly bleeds off, you definitely have an additional leak somewhere in the system. It could be extremely small where you won’t even see a drip and/or leak. I have had that happen many times. If you need any other assistance feel free to shoot me over your issue. Hope this video helped out.

      @@alley55customs93 if that happens and you don’t bleed it properly, would that cause the new pump to fail again?

    Thanks for the video just wondering what you experienced in the bleed procedure with the car running or not running ? GM says not running but i have had some difficulties with their procedure getting air out. thanks

    • @alley55customs93
      @alley55customs93  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Definitely, try to bleed the air out first with the engine off. Jack up the front end of your car and turn steering wheel side to side. It does bleed the system better not running. The vacuum pump helps if you can’t get all the air out. Usually driving the car for a while will “burp” the power steering unit of all air. Let me know if this helps.

      No! You don't have to. It's already under pressure and will keep on sucking more air out as you start the engine and turn the wheels.

    • @alley55customs93
      @alley55customs93  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You definitely keep vacuum pressure while turning the wheels side to side. Also, if bleeding your system with the engine running isn’t working then turn off the engine and repeat the same steps.

    I hate me. So I watched this video a while ago but like an idiot I haphazardly went about just sticking my electric vacuum pump just anywhere without doing research again. That any where was the low pressure side of the steering gear on my 2003 silverado. I've been having steering problems for a long time now and am putting the third pump on in the past two years. One of them the shaft broke.
    So i pulled a vacuum (probably over 25) and nothing happened til I heard a popping sound. Then the fluid started coming. Nasty looking stuff. So, I am assuming I popped a seal and am hoping it is not in the brand new hydrobooster I installed a couple months ago. The pump is not yet installed so that is eliminated. I was thinking of replacing the steering gear in the first place and that nasty fluid had to be coming from the steering gear because as I said the hydrobooster is new, though I understand the nasty was probably throughout the system. However. the fluid was replaced multiple times without flushing and what was in the pump reservoir didn't look that bad.
    Do you have an opinion as to whether you think I popped a seal in the steering gear or the hydro booster? I've been broke down for two weeks now with various repairs. I want to get it done asap but I want to get it done right and popping a seal is not making me feel too good. So, I'm, again debating on whether to get a new steering gear, a seal rebuild kit or a accept that I popped a seal in my new, not reman, hydrobooster. All sincere opinions are welcome.

  • @Hello_its_me_mario

    Do it with engine off first to prevent any air that was in there already

    • @markb6156
      @markb6156 ปีที่แล้ว

      This makes sense. If there's air in the system the pump will compress that air and turn it into microscopic bubbles in the fluid. This is why you need to repeatedly pull vacuum--The microscopic bubbles are very hard to pull out of the oil.

      You probably have a hydroboost which is different than a vacuum booster, while bleeding the system you need to pump the brakes after going lock to lock with the steering wheel. Go lock to lock 4 to 6 times then pump brakes slowly 3 times. As for those idiots that commented below here STFU.

    I bought it busted my ass trying to do the vacuum all they needed to do was have a that simply attached to your power steering pump like the little measuring thing it would be the perfect place all it have to do is make it vacuum sealable
