- Launching on the PS1 in 1998, Resident Evil has been a staple of the horror video game genre for over 2 decades. From the fixed camera angles of Resident Evil 2, to the 3rd person action perspective of Resident Evil 4, and even 2019's outstanding Resident Evil 2 Remake, these games have left a lasting impression. But as well made as they may be, they'd be nothing without the memorable characters that inhabit its gruesome world. Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Leon Kennedy - they're all invaluable parts of the most influential horror video game series of all time.
With Resident Evil 3 Remake on the horizon, let's rank 'em.

I completely agree. And that was their chance to have him say he'd continue fighting against his old employer too, but the game ended and...nothing. So what did Carlos do after the events in 3? Just disappear? At least with Sheva and Josh we know they live in a different country so they are probably still fighting over there. Same with Jake.

Barry is the best, hands down. The legend joined the BSAA with a little help with chris, did a lot of things in various games, moved to canada to protect his family from umbrella, went back to work, came back home to see his younger daughter almost dead because of his older daughter, had trouble being a good father (and actually felt bad for it, unlike certain bad fathers in 90% of games) but still went all the way to the russian island to save the daughter that hated him, and after all the shit-ton of problems he had, his happy ending wasn't as generic as everyone else's, and he pretty much adopted a wesker unknowingly, wich will probably render a new game with him as a protagonist. don't forget about the whole "the bird has changed" thing, the alex wesker within natalia has indeed awoken, and it's pretending to be normal natalia. hell yeah gimme more barry fucking burton fanservice, he's the best

It is hands down Leon. He defines what a perfect protagonist in any video games should strive to create. Leon is simply so damn good with his perfections and his imperfections. Outstanding.

To me, I love Resident Evil 6. Playing four different storylines that still connected to the plot was awesome in my book. The hand to hand combat was great as well. Ada also bought a great behind the scenes look on the overall storyline too!
"IT'S NOT HORROR" and such. And when it was? RE was never scary. It tried certainly, but still remained cheesy and classy B movie, I absolutely love RE 6. Maybe becase it was my first RE game, but I still enjoying it very much.
Yeah I love Resident Evil 6 too but if u compare it to the first games its just not the typical RE and most of the ratings really look on the RE aspect where its about survival while RE 6 is just plain action, but I love it anyway.

@@mistral1943 i completely agree. They just hated how bombastic 6 was, while I thought it was epic. Over the top? Absolutely. But as you said, previous resident evil games had been over the top too. And it was very ambitious. To have the campaigns crossover, each having its own flavor, etc. (love the new profile pic btw lol).

My boy Ethan, just when i was starting to like him.
Ethan was never an important character. He was needed just because all the original main characters became too OP, and Capcom wanted to bring back the Survival Horror aspect of their games that was missing ever since RE 5. RE 7 and 8 would have lasted like two hours each if someone like Leon was the main character in those games.

Yeah I agree I liked Moira but it would have been good if instead of making Moira a playable character, they decided to pair Sheva with Claire. Even having her in the first revelations but I think that happened before the RE5 timeline?

@@Wilkoooo I remember few weeks ago. My big brother and I deiced to do No hope which is uh kinda hard. Even more hard while playing agent. I wanted to do Ada since she was my favorite but my brother decline since I chose the last 3 characters campaign. I thought it was okay but NO I was wrong. For god sake he can't even open doors, chest, pull lever, move things around. My brother joked that I was just the voice. Also the teleporting is just weird. I be fighting Simmons, Leon comes down to recuse ada and I be in a freaking building near Helena.
Fighting the chainsaw just gave me stress. I can barely move to get around the chainsaw on the bus. I mostly got knocked off and then eaten by zombies.
I swear, I was in the dying stage and near Leon and Helena feet. I was yelling for help and no one helped me and kept shooting Deborah. My big brother was dying laughing of my misery. I can complain more but this comment is getting too long lol
firestorm the wolf literally what happened to me. I died so much at the bus bit but I eventually managed to keep running laps back and forth. The fact no NPCs can revive Agent sucks so bad, in the Deborah fight my sister kept having to stop what she was doing and run over to help me. But the sniper part at the end with Helena works quite well with Agent, like, the actual bit in Leon’s campaign is the same so it’s not too bad. But I just wish he could AT LEAST open doors, like 0/10 for effort.
This guy's acting like everyone chose jill for her character instead of the fact that she had more inventory space and gets a lockpick
IKR she was meant to be the easier difficulty playthrough while Chris was the more difficult playthrough. Especially since Barry will save her from the ceiling trap, the Plant 42, and Wesker at the end if you get the good ending. Whenever Rebecca saves Chris you actually have to do work and play as her with no weapons.
I like Chris more because I like his storyline with Wesker and like Rebecca more than Barry. Also, playing as Chris is automatically harder than Jill and I like harder games.
I play as Jill for her character. She is infinitely more interesting than Chris.
Ya I always played as Chris. I liked Rebecca a lot, and I preferred Chris with his dynamic with Wesker, I thought it made the ending more interesting. But that being said I also love the Jill campaign and Barry, but ya I played as Chris a lot more. (But goddamn ya those stupid little old fashioned keys you gotta find as him suuuuuuck)

Ethan deserves to be ranked higher after Village. Mans makes poor choices but he’s a brave husband/dad who fights to the last to save his wife and daughter. Also his twist is fantastic
I'd be really interested to see how the list would change after RE3 Remake and Village. RE3 Remake made Carlos incredibly charismatic, and Village skyrocketed Ethan up the list to be one of the best (and most tragic) characters in the franchise. He's my personal 3rd favorite after Jill and Leon.

She’s such a badass and one thing people should realize is that Claire was just a 19 year old college student who just went looking for her brother on her own a without special military training and she STILL managed to survive the raccooon city incident and the Rockford island incident! Sheva is a great character but she works best in the context of RE5. She could have appeared in RE6 but that means that she’d replace Piers which means that she would die and that would suck. She wouldn’t fit the context of any other game except for RE5 and MAYBE RE6 but that’s it. She is a very good one-time character though.

Rebecca, Sherry and Ashley were too low. Ashley was the most tolerable escort mission character I have ever rescued. Ada should have been below literally all of them, chris, and pretty much everyone from stars and the racoon city incident.

I got into the games fair late but one of the best memories of resident evil for me was when me and my brother would sit and play RE5 together and Chris from them was my favourite but getting to know the series better he still remains my favourite

I will say that Chris, Claire, and Jill are actual well written characters story wise; you watch him actually suffer from PTSD in 5 and 6, and see him actually break as a person. Claire is Chris' sister who gets involved literally just to chase after her brother (there is more to her than that too), also; Claire was trained by her brother, Jill eventually suffers from PTSD, and Leon literally is just a pretty boi and beautiful idiot
Of course ranking lists are subjective, but this one got Chris wrong and Claire wrong
Hell; if you remember how Chris actually has a written character across the entire series; you'll remember how Piers is the *sole* reason why Chris even *starts* to overcome his traumas. But yes Leon is the coolest one.
It just kinda sucks that *Ignoring* character writing stopped the top four from being Chris, Claire, Leon, and Jill in any order (the characters who actually *are* the series and *wrote* the survival horror genre and existence of third person shooter)

Leon has it all imo. Cool look, cool attitude, him being a rookie cop to start his stories of RE truly puts him in a group with Chris, Jill and Claire. I think he's the character with the most potential. Jill has been the true star of RE games but Leon is right there to be the second biggest imo.
For some reason Chris and Leon are tied until the re2 remake but Jill has been number 1 even after re7.

I'm fairly new to this still, i had RE5 as an early teen years.ago but i never finished that game, never went far into it. Still have it, cause i like the case. RE2 remake was the one that started it for me, and i done a lot of research on the characters, Leon just stands out for me cause of his story, him being one of the very first to find out about the outbreak just thinking it was grizzly murders has a connection to the story as well Chris and Jill being the the center of it.
@@quentindiaz9418 Hey there it was actually Jill that found out about the outbreak if if not Brad Vickers but if you play RE 3 remake you will get further into the story cause RE3 is before and after RE2. Leon and Claire come into Raccoon City a week after outbreak and basically leave after one night. Jill had been around the outbreak longer basically through the whole thing.

Leon is told and later finding evidence along the way. Again this is capcom's problem of not explaining their story more clearer

Wonder no more this is how it would roll:
Leon would be main, Ada would help him from the shadows. Jill would be the damsel in distress, and Claire would be the dumbnut trying to help a villain posing like a good guy Jeopardizing the mission to Leon’s discontent.
Leon “had” to kill the bad guy once he started mutating and Claire gets mad Leon, so she runs off and you have to rescue her.
And in the end Jill isn’t such a damsel in distress, cause she saves the day and kills Ada once and for all. Leon meets karma too quickly. And Barry comes in a chopper and extracts them from whatever 3rd world hellhole there are in this mission.

One of the few things that I can applaud Capcom for is the consistency on Claire's personality.
In RE Degeneration Leon tells Claire that she choose the hardest path, to be a "rescuer" rather than a fighter, which perfectly shows the type of person she is.
